Will A Upper Gi And Colonscopy Show Everything Needed

Would upper GI and colonoscopy rule out gall bladder problems?

An upper GI visualizes the duodenum (proximal small bowel) into which the duct from the gall bladder (GB) empties but an UGI will not provide any useful information regarding the GB. The same is true of the colonoscopy. I tell medical students and residents that if they do not know the diagnosis before ordering the test they never will. Another round of doctors hardly seems productive - search out one good one - and they should have the diagnosis for you after a history, physical examination, and before the test. Good Luck.

Can an endoscopy and colonoscopy show that you are allergic to gluten?

My doctor says it can but I've done research on both procedures and no where has it said that these procedures can show if you are allergic to gluten or not. Everywhere says a blood test defines that. My doctor has screwed up with my case countless of times and she went to economic school. Therefore I don't think she right about this. Thanks.

If you are having an upper GI endoscopy...?

I know you can't wear underwear, but can you wear a bra under the gown or sweat clothes? I have had an endoscopy before, but when I was really little. I will be under anesthetic and probably wearing sweat pants and a sweat shirt thing.

I know this is a weird section, but it is active!

Would a endoscopy?? detect colon or prostate cancer? It showed the stomach and it was clear.?

Endoscopy looks at the throat and stomach mostly.

The gastroenterologist will probably want to do a sigmoidoscopy and/or colonoscopy for colon cancer/polyps (the first one you are awake and they put a small tube into your rectum and the second one you are asleep and they use a longer tube and can pinch off polyps)...If he is over 50, he should have a routine colonoscopy anyway. They recommend a baseline one for anyone over 50.

He could also do an Upper GI (barium) x-ray and a Lower GI (barium) x-ray...where you swallow barium for the first one and they put barium enema in you for the second one...

For prostate cancer, they usually do a blood test first for a marker in the blood called PSA or a new test called EPCA-2 .

Also doctors can do a prostate exam, where they feel it through the rectum and have the person cough...He could go to a urologist if he is worried about his prostate.

What is a GI workup? same as colonoscopy?

depending on your age, it might mean a colonoscopy. for older people, especially males, with unexplained anemia, the thing you need to rule out first is GI bleeding, which is sometimes cause by colon cancer, unfortunately. other common reasons for a GI bleeding that would be found on a colonoscopy are diverticulosis and internal hemorrhoids. a "GI work-up" can also mean upper GI endoscopy or barium study to look at the esophagus, stomach and proximal small bowel. bleeding ulcers, chronic gastritis and malabsorption can all cause different kinds of anemia and may be found on a upper GI endoscope.

Blood in stool, I've even had a colonoscopy?

I'm 24 male in good health. For the past few months i will get, what i consinder, lot of blood in my stool, and in the toilet. I had a colonoscopy two months ago and they said everything was fine, no hermroids or anything to worry about, but i'm still bleeding. I have another appointment to go back and talk to the dr. Should i pursue an uppet GI? Anyone else with similar experiences?

Will smoking medical cannabis the day of my colonoscopy cause any complications?

In general, the use of medical cannabis prior to colonoscopy procedure will probably have no impact with respect to the procedure itself, but perhaps a gastroenterologist may have another perspective. However, depending upon what sedation is utilized for the procedure, the combination of the effects of cannabis and sedation meds can be unpredictable, mostly related to level of consciousness and behavior. If cannabis is ingested in moderation for a patient who is a legitimate chronic medical user and only does enough to benefit from the effect of THC, probably less of an issue. But if this question is really about recreational use and the amount ingested is to an extreme, behavior and reactions to the sedatives may have unpredictable reactions and certainly can alter the recovery of the sedation.Of critical importance is to be transparent with your physicians, especially the Anesthesia provider, as your safety may depend on it.Most Anesthesia providers would not provide care for a patient that reported the use of recreational cannabis for an elective procedure, but be willing to work with a medical need.

How long after an endoscopy can I drive?

Endoscopy would encompass - Upper GI Scopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP, etc.Majority of these are done in sedation/short GA. One is expected to be street-fit in about 2–4 hours but if a prolonged procedure is undertaken with excess sedation or use of formal general anaesthesia, its unadvisable to drive yourself home.
