Will A Wireless N Router Work With Any Type Of Internet Provider

I changed my internet provider, now my wifi router does not work. What change in the settings of my router should I do?

Thanks for A2A.First of all, check your configuration of router and note it down (username, password of PPPoE, etc.) Now, factory reset the router. And configure it accordingly to the configuration of new internet provider's requirements. It should work now. If your ISP uses PPPoE, they may be using MAC specific login system for connection, so what you need to do is register your router's MAC address to the ISP. Remember, do not clone MAC and connect because that just doesn't sound right. Hope this helps!

Does any modem work on any Internet provider?

The DSL modem has to be compatible with the DSL provider's service.

However there are many combination DSL modem / wireless router units that will work with Verizon.

FYI: You don't have to get the modem or gateway from the DSL provider. You can buy them at Amazon, such as this Actiontec ADSL2+ modem and combination 300 Mbps wireless N router. It is compatible with virtually all major DSL service providers including At&t, Verizon, Qwest, Frontier, Centurylink, and most other DSL Internet services. http://isp1.us/reviews/actiontec-gt784wn-dsl-modem-router/

It's about $80 with free shipping from Amazon.

Good Luck...

Is DSL considered a wireless internet service?

No,DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line Digital subscriber line - Wikipedia.DSL is typically delivered via standard copper twisted pair telephone lines at speeds from 1.5 to 12 Mbps.DSL, Cable and Fiber Optic internet services are all delivered via some sort of cable.Wireless Internet can be 3G or 4G from a cellular provider, Satellite, WiMax, or WiFi from a nearby hotspot. You can read more about Internet service types here: Compare Internet ProvidersMany people confuse their wireless router WiFi for a wireless Internet. The wireless router broadcasts a local Wi-Fi signal (WLAN) but must be connected to a modem with an active ISP connection to connect to the Internet (WAN). The ISP modem can be any type, cable, DSL, fiber, satellite, cellular, etc.Good Luck…

Is it possible to have two different internet providers in one house?

Sure, but you’ll have to keep them separated or they’ll fight.

Do I need an internet provider to use wifi?

Your internet and your network are two separate things. Your internet must be provided by an ISP (Internet Service Provider,) which is usually a monthly fee, otherwise the network you create will only allow you to connect to other devices connected to your network via either ethernet cable or wifi. (An ethernet cable being that thing that kinda looks like a bigger version of an old phone line cable. It carries the connections between computers and such inside your home, and is basically the wired version of wifi.) To my knowledge, there is no way to legally get permanent internet from a provider, and no way to get internet at all without one.Once you have your internet connection from your ISP, make sure you get either a modem/router/wifi access point combo, or any form of those three. The modem part is needed to get the internet into your network (as it will likely be brought into your space of living through a coaxial cable and not an ethernet cable at first.) The router is needed to control what information goes to which devices that are connected to the network, so that you don’t send the information for your download to the wrong device. The wifi access point is needed to actually send and receive the wifi signal to and from your devices. A lot of devices advertised as routers are all three combined, but it is generally a good idea to make sure what you get is everything you need because it is still possible to get them all as separate devices and it would really suck to think you’re getting everything you need only to get home and find out that you only bought a router. Also check what comes with your internet package as some ISP’s do provide modem/router/access point combos with their internet.

Wireless N Router vs G router?

I just bought a wireless n router. The connection speed is 300 mbps, just like it was said to be. But what I am worried about is that when I do speed test, it shows the same speed as my dsl modem which is G. What should I do, return the product???

What is the difference between a wireless router and a wireless modem?

Good question!
A wireless modem provides a way to connect to the internet through an Internet Service Provider (ISP). In the "old days", if you wanted to connect to the internet, you had to have your computer connected to a modem that had access to a telephone line to dial in to your ISP for an internet connection. Modern technology allows you to use a cell phone modem to do the same thing. A cell phone modem is called a wireless modem. So you can take you computer, usually a laptop computer, anywhere there is cell phone service and connect to the internet, like a cell phone dial up connection. A wireless modem allows one computer, usually a mobile computer like a laptop, to connect to the internet from just about anywhere that there is cell phone service. Some people use wireless modems to connect their home PCs to the internet because there is no other service available at their homes.

A wireless router is a way for you to share one internet connection, usually at a home or small office, with multiple computers. So if you have a DSL Connection or Cable Modem connection or fiber (FiOS) connection at your house, you can share this high-speed connection with multiple computers at your house or small business.

For instance, my laptop has a wireless modem so that I can access tha internet from just about anywhere when I travel. But at home, we have a wireless router that allows our four computers to share the same high-speed connection so that each computer has internet access. We can't install an ethernet cable for each conputer, so we use the wireless router to share the connection.

In Summary...
A wireless Modem is usually used to connect one (mobile) computer to the internet by a wireless dial-up connection. Usually a laptop.

A Wireless Router is used to share one high-speed internet connection with multiple computers where it is not practical to run network wires. (Usually in a home or small business) Each computer would need to have a wireless Network Interface Device to access the wireless network.
I hope this helps to answer your question.

If you already have a internet provider does wifi cost any extra?

Technically you're asking for her to add a wireless router to her setup. It does not cost more in a sense of a monthly fee to add it its just a matter of buying the equipment for it. Most people usually go out and buy a wireless router ( i use a linksys 54g ) and connect it to their existing modem to split the connection so they still have a direct connection for the place where the equipment was originally and add a wireless network to their house. Should you already have a piece of equipment called a router in place that separates the connection so more than one computer can use the connection at a time you can use whats called a wireless access point to add a wireless network to your setup.
A wireless router can cost you from cheapo ones of 30 and your average ones run 50-70 dollars. And your new draft n can run you 100+ but N hasn't become standardized yet so i always tell people to go with a Wireless G router but wireless N routers will support G networking equipment.
