Will Americans Ever Again Trust A White Guy To Be President Especially A Southern One

Are Southern Europeans considered white in United States?

I think that Ryan Le Blanc generally is correct - any European, today, is considered “white” - country of origin not withstanding.Previously, in the 19th Century, anyone who wasn’t Angle Saxon Protestant wasn’t considered “white” either - so, as Ryan mentioned that ruled out the Catholic countries in Europe: Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland and it ruled out Greece - whose citizens tend to be Orthodox. And, of course, the Jews - no matter how assimilated they were into German or English culture. That being said, there is a disturbing turn of events in the USA today - and the restive minority who have deeply held prejudice against anyone they see as not “white” - again Angle Saxon and Protestant - are once again the “other.”Now the Latin countries are making up the current wave of immigration to the United States, mostly south of the US border and these particular bigots don’t care to differentiate between a Spaniard and a Mexican - seeing both as somehow diluting the “white” nationalism. Same is true of the Portuguese, because Brazil I guess. And, they just don’t understand the Greeks, and the Italians are Catholic and the Jews can’t be trusted. The stereotypical tropes are being played up again and again. All fired up by the racist rants of the President elect during the election and a renewed sense of entitlement that they feel is being unleashed by the newly recognized Alt-Right movement that carefully cultivated the malcontents over the years.Make no mistake - this is the vocal minority. The vast majority of Americans are not embracing the renewed biases. And, the vast majority of Americans see all Europeans regardless of their country of origin, as “white.”

Who had the greatest relationship between a President and Vice President of the United States of America?

Obama/Biden.No other duo comes close. Some of these Duos likes each other or respected each other. A few worked incredibly well together. Obama/Biden loved each other.Obama very likely trusted Joe Biden more than any other person in his administration. He didn’t just loop Joe in, he let Joe mold policy. On some issues, especially foreign affairs Joe had as much or more input than Clinton or the National Security Advisors. They busted each other’s balls, publicly. Spoke about each other like they were in the same room, even when they were on separate continents. These guys would make each other cry without an iota of shame.Joe Biden would happily count Barack Obama among his own sons. Barack Obama clearly placed a level of trust in Biden that seemed at times nearly paternal. When Papa Joe leaves this world there is no doubt who will eulogize him and probably help carry the casket along with Biden’s grandkids.Obama wanted Joe to succeed him. Even though that meant reneging on the “deal” with Hillary hatched at the 07 DNC.Whenever anyone went after Obama it was Joe Biden who went full pit bull first, usually with Obama trying to calm him down. Now that is Joe Biden’s way, but still.Whenever anyone went after Joe Biden, Obama would laugh at them with a look in his eye that said “he’s smarter than you, funnier than you and better than you in every meaningful way”.The Democrats balked at Obama, they’d drag their feet and complain. Joe Biden went to the hill to pat backs, twist arms and when necessary, crack heads. They kind of balanced each other out. They were politically similar but as different as night and day personally and somehow that worked so much better than if they had been more alike.Obama used to do some of the things that VPs usually get stuck doing and the reason was simple, Joe was doing something else that they considered vital at the moment.Clinton/Gore worked well together but they didn’t love each other.Reagan/Bush respected each other but they were very much rivals.Bush/Cheney come closest I think but they were not as effective and Cheney was arguably a bad influence many times. We will not likely live long enough to see another West Wing bromance like this. It may not ever repeat again. At the levels that Presidents and VPs operate at, real friendships are rare and hard to form. These guys did that, it was legit affection, the kind of fraternal bond that many people go their whole lives without.

Why are some liberals so condescending toward Trump supporters? Do they really feel they are superior?

They can’t believe anyone voted for someone who has spouted so much hate speech, who has so few coherent ideas, and whose tendencies seem too patently autocratic. It’s not about liberals feeling “superior”: it’s about us being morally aghast that you guys got behind a demi-man who called Mexicans “rapists” in his campaign announcement, has degraded women, attacked anyone who dares criticize him, waged a systematic war on the very free press whose constant attention to him probably factored in his victory, attacked a Gold Star family and compared his “sacrifices” as real-estate billionaire to those of the young and dead Muslim-American soldier Humayun Khan, who besmirched John McCain’s status as a war hero — when was Trump ever in Vietnam?, who wants to create a registry for Muslims (much as Hitler did for Jews — bad precedent), who has the zealous support of the KKK, who cozied up to Putin (whose government interfered in the election — in the country whose security the president is supposed to ensure), who has been nominating plutocrats and alt-right loons to very lofty and powerful positions, who promises to deport millions and break up families, to “build a Wall and make Mexico pay for it” (good luck), who will lead us into trade wars and likely encourage fiscal policy that will lead to another huge financial meltdown, calls climate change a hoax propagated by China (and therefore embraces destructive industries and deregulation, and has no agenda to help mitigate the first anthropogenic extinction in our planet’s history), etc., etc., etc.We are disappointed to think we live in a country in which our fellow citizens think that these things are presidential, that they befit the leader of the free world. We are horrified to think that America elected its own image, and that image is this. The man’s affronts to common decency and infantile vulnerability to any provocation should have disqualified him in the minds of all decent and sane people. So what the fuck happened? I am no great fan of Hillary’s. I don’t think Washington is functioning properly. But electing this wholly selfish, power-hungry golem to our highest office was not a wise alternative. It’s not so much about superiority. The feeling is “This is America in the twenty-first century! How could you?”
