Will Caring For My Own Dog Be Hard

Is owning 3 dogs hard?

I have always had a lot of dogs and it's always been easy for me. I currently have 2 dogs and a cat, my third dog died a few weeks ago and we are getting ready to buy a new puppy so we will be a three dog home again. It really has a lot to do with you. How experienced are you with dogs? For me my parents have bred and shown French Bulldogs since before I was born so I have always been around a ton of dogs and taking care of puppies and training them just comes naturally for me because I've never not done it. You have to make sure that you do have plenty of time and that you are fully committed once you take this on because the worst thing you could do would be to get these dogs home and change your mind because it would be that much more traumatic on them and I'm guessing that since you've found them at a shelter they've been through enough trauma already. The last piece of advice I could give you is to talk with the people who have been taking care of them and make sure that they will do well with other dogs especially puppies. Sometimes older dogs don't tolerate puppies quite as well because puppies are so playful and so curious that they will end up irritating the older more mature dogs. You really just need to do some serious soul searching. Do you want the puppy because you clicked and really feel there's a connection there or is just because the puppy is so cute that it's made you blind to the reality of the situation? In the end the decision has to be yours and you just need to try and think as rationally as you possibly can. Good Luck!

Is it hard owning 4 dogs? PLEASE answer:)?

I love huskies! I love their personalities, I havent found a dog yet that can match their personalities. But just as other posters said they require an experienced owner. And if your not experienced plan on getting a trainer to help you with the small stuff so the small stuff doesn't turn into a BIG problem. Plan on multiple long walks a day, preferably runs a day. Plan on hair all over your house in places you would never imagine. Including your eyes and your throat when you wake up in the morning. And your food of course. In my experience. If a husky is exercised properly then they are kinda cat like in the house and can be very low key and kinda lazy, but always up for some activity, even if they already ran 10 miles that day. Training ha ha. If its not fun they don't care. Some can be territorial with unknown dogs and once established will challenge an unknown dog in their house. But can live with other dogs just fine. Likes to kill and chase small animals including cats.. not all huskies but most try to be cat killers. Love the breed to death. Hate the hair, but Im used to it. They are bratty and big babies, and they need someone who will tell them what to do and when to do it, or you will have chaos on your hands

Tips on caring/owning a dog?

For your first question, exercise:

Big dogs do need more exercise, take them for a walk for half an hour to an hour and whilst doing this, play frisbee with them, let them run around and have fun. Do this twice/three times a day :-) Play with them whenever you can, big dogs (especially intelligent ones) need lots of mental stimulation otherwise they will get bored, and may become destructive or annoying by doing things such as tearing up the furniture, barking etc as a way to entertain themselves. If you don't have a lot of time to exercise a big dog, try getting a smaller dog that doesn't require as much exercise, or maybe hiring a dog walker?

Work: we take our dog to a dog daycare centre. Not going to lie it is about £15 per day but is worth it, it means your dog can socialise with other dogs, get the one-on-one time it needs and also training sometimes. I don't know how other people do it either.

Training: we tried to train our westie ourselves and failed... Was much easier to take him to training class and wasn't as expensive as we thought.. But if you really want to train your dog yourself, buy a training guide book and some training essentials and try your best!

Life: Dogs do take up your life. I don't think I realised quite how much until we got our first one. Having your garden door open is a good way for the dog to go out by its self. And you can train the dog to tell you when it needs to go so then you can open the door :-) If you wanna sleep at your friends, then get someone to watch over the dog? If you're not going to sacrifice some things for your dog then there isn't much point in getting one. Dogs are so rewarding and I've not gone out sometimes so I can stay in with mine.

I can't imagine life without my dog now, he's lovely and is always happy to see me. He can tell when I'm upset and will come and cuddle with me.. They honestly are the best companion.

Good luck :-) Hope this helped

Will caring for my own dog be hard?

Minor's can't own property, dogs are property.

Do you live in a pet friendly home? If not, you can't get a dog.

Are you still living with your parents? If so, it's their decision as to whether a dog will be allowed in the home not yours, I'm sure you've heard of their house, their rules, live with it.

Do you live with a roommate? Then it must be agreed upon by both parties.

Are you independently wealthy and can you afford proper care for a dog? Dogs are a luxury, not a necessity.

Are you available 24/7 to care for a dog? Even a fully trained adult dog can not be left alone for more than 3-4 hours maximum.

Here's just a small sample of what basic care entails, and if you can't provide this then don't get a dog:

"Plus no one in the house has allergies." That's great, but do they want a dog? Everyone must be in agreement otherwise don't get a dog.

Making my own dog food?

Dogs do not do well on vegetarian diets, so I am glad to hear you will be including a meat source for them.

You will find an excellent tool that will allow you to make up your own recipes for them, but balanced for their nutritional needs, at
WWW.Balance-It.com
It was written for veterinarians by a veterinary nutritionist.
they also sell vitamin supplements to complete the diets, which contain no additives - also developed for veterinarians. You'll need an Rx from from vet for the supplements.

Dogs can do very well on fish, and I had one with special needs that ate fish and oatmeal for years. You may want to look around and see if you know someone who runs a deli or restaurant - they can get you a box of Chilean whitefish for cheap at Restaurant Depot - but only restaurant owners have accounts there. Far better to be paying $1.50 a pound than $5 at the supermarket!

At what age should a child have their own dog?

under the law a child cant own a dog, the adult is responsible

when a child shoud be allowed too have a dog they dont just call their own but is responsible for is when they are old enough you feel they legit can handle the responsibility of coownership, though as the parent you are still responsible for overseeing their handling of the dog and make sure the dog is trained

but unless they have the skills needed and maturity needed for you too award them legit coownership then no, go ahead and have a child say a dog is theirs and have them help out with it, but a general rule is you dont leave a kid alone with a dog...no rule without exception of course as there are kids who legit can handle specific dogs just fine after years of living with dogs and being trained in handling dogs...but thats not the majority of kids

in general i would never award a kid coownership before teenage years, thats not too say they cant help out, we did at home, and yes i walked dogs before hiting my teens, showed them helped train them, and we had "our" own dog which was the dog we were most involved with, but dogs are pack animals so everyone in the family should be involved too some extent with all the animals, because the whole family and all the dogs are one pack

so before we could coown a dog our dog was just the dog we had the most to do with and if all of us was walking all the dogs at the same time the dog we were most likely too be walking, but the ownership was our parents, they made the descisions in the end, if we had coownership of a dog it would mean we were counceled as coowners of the dog not just in an advisory capasity but legit

in general the dogs when talking too people were our dogs, as in the familys dogs because day too day the whole family is involved with a dog...so the only need too really specify is when it comes too legal matters and registration papers

and young children can not under the law be held responsible for an animal, so 10 is too young, if you get a dog which your child help out with thats fine, but under the law you are the legit owner of said dog, and the one who will be held legally responsible, its a family dog but it is at the end of the day also your dog under the law

As a pet parent we know you dedicate a large part of your day caring for your dog. In fact, depending on the breed, your family may be spending a couple of hours each day exercising, feeding, training and grooming your canine companion. In return, your dog provides you with unconditional love and affection. There are very few relationships that are as rewarding. However, as our understanding of dog health and wellbeing develops it can be hard to stay on top of the best approach to caring for your canine companion. A dog can be a wonderful addition to any home, but whether you're an experienced pet parent or a first-time adopter, it's important to keep your canine companion's health and happiness a top priority. If a boyfriend abused my dog? I would dump him, hard, fast, permanently, and in no uncertain terms. Probably a process involving no more than fifteen seconds and several very choice expletives as I kick him out the door. And no, he can’t even take his toothbrush with him as he goes.
