Will Henna And Indigo Work

How to mix indigo for body art, similar to henna?

Totally different, all powdered indigo leaf will do for skin is make short lasting grey stains, and even those might wash off quickly. Indigo leaf is only good for hair dyeing. The answer above has the links for the only form of indigo that works on skin, it's basically freeze dried indigo dye crystals. It works nothing like henna at all, so don't expect it to!

Crystal indigo is harder to work with than henna in many ways. You must mix up tiny amounts since the dye will be useless in 30 minutes or less, and once dipped into the dye you have about 10 seconds to get it from the brush onto your skin. The first touch will be dark, after 3-4 seconds the color will be very light. I'm still playing around with how to paint skin with indigo, you really have to plan your design first so you're doing the parts you want dark first, then adding detail, which often means you paint different parts of the design at once and fill in the spaces. Indigo also seems to stain better on softer skin, which is the opposite of henna, although there's way more variation in color saturation than henna has. It's fun, but not something a henna artist can do without practice, since the techniques are totally different.

Can I dye over indigo henna?

You can, but since indigo is black and henna does not lighten, you'll just get a red sheen over black.

Difference between henna and indigo?

I've used henna a couple times before to make my hair reddish, but i think my hair would look cute black (its light brown). I heard that theres a black henna, but i heard another thing that its called indigo. Is there a black henna or is it indigo and is indigo easy to use and good for your hair like henna?

Using Henna and Indigo to dye hair?

Yes, it will work, but you'll need a lot more than that. To your tailbone, I'd suggest 500g of each, more if your hair is especially thick. You can freeze leftover henna, so it's ok to have too much. You can't save indigo, but you can judge how much indigo you need by how much henna you used. Henna's good for hair, while indigo won't harm it, though it may make your hair feel dry for a day or so.

Bleach on an indigo/henna hair disaster?

Okay so about 5 months ago, I dyed my natural long blonde hair to a dark blackish teal color with black henna with indigo.

As the days went by, the indigo started to fade a little to a blue/green. People made fun of it and stuff. So I tried to get it out.

First, I used Effasol (hair color remover). It ended up only working on my roots that have grew out, turning them a bleach blonde, and then the indigo stayed the same on my hair.

Then, I used a red henna on top. It didn't work where I wanted it to, except it turned my bleach blonde roots a nasty bright red. So I had darkish teal hair with red roots. :(

Then I used a dark brown dye from Clairol on my roots, and then a medium brown dye from Clairol on the indigo part.
My hair then evened out a little bit.

Recently, the dye faded so my red roots showed, and I tried getting the indigo out of my hair again. I used cream developer and I left it on my hair for an hour and it took all the dye out and the red henna out, and lightened the indigo to a blue-green color.

At the moment my hair is a blue-green color from the developer (peroxide) and my roots are bleach blonde from the effasol from before.

Yesterday, I bought Clairol Born Blonde Maxi hair dye for dark blonde to black hair, with hopes of turning my hair bleach blonde so I can start over.

My hair is already really damaged. Does bleach really work on indigo? I'm really afraid to use the blonde dye. Any advice?
Thanks.

Can you use Indigo (black henna hair dye) without using henna dye first?

You can certainly try. Indigo by itself isn't permanent and will wash away in a few weeks time or faster depending on how you care for your hair. It can also give you a blue/black color, which some want.

When you do the full 2 step process you are guaranteed to get jet black that is permenant.

The best way to find out which will work best for you is to try it both ways and see which makes you happiest.

How to get henna and indigo hair dye off skin and nails?

Haha this happened to me a couple of months ago when I was too lazy to put gloves on at all. They were bright orange and I did thankfully manage to get most of it off despite reading everywhere that it won't come off for weeks.

I tried all kinds of things like rubbing vodka into my hands, anything else that seems to be high in alcohol, i don't think i used lemon juice because apparently that makes it brighter, though thinking about it now it probably would just make it lighter and more likely to wash out, I also soaked my hands in hot water for about half an hour. In the end I used good old soap and water and most of it came out! I soaked my hands in soapy water a bit more and just kept scrubbing. Your hands will feel horrible and wrinkly after but at least they wont be orange!

It was pretty much gone within a couple of days, though the staining on my nails seemed to be a bit more permanent but it was so faint it wasn't noticeable. Hope this helps!

How many days does Indigo work on the hair?

Great question!I have been using Henna and Indigo[1] as a natural alternative to hair dyes for the last few years and absolutely love it! It is Mother Nature’s way of keeping your hair in balance naturally. The staying power of the Indigo is determined by:how long you keep it on your hairthe prior henna applicationand is further enhanced once you add sea salt to the mixture.Once this 2-step process is done, the dye will take 24-48 hours to ‘develop’ so to speak before the true color is reflected. Usually the dye process should last 6-8 weeks – the usual time span for new hair growth.I hope this helps you. All the best.Footnotes[1] Natural Black Hair Dye

Is applying henna good for the hair? some say it causes hairfall!

I think that a lot of people who work in salons and who make their money from using chemical dyes on customers' hair are taught that henna is bad or want to denigrate henna because it cuts into their business. When I go to get my hair cut my hairdresser doesn't like me talking too loudly about hennaing my hair, even when people ask me how I got that great color.  Pure henna is a natural product which binds with the keratin in the hair, relaxing the cuticle and making the strands thicker and shinier.  My hair feels incredibly healthy and looks great because of henna. Henna is indeed a permanent dye which makes it superior to chemical dyes because it does not fade. It does, however, grow out.  There is no need to shave your head to get rid of henna, simply let it grow out.   On a side note, henna is a transparent dye that gives a reddish-brown color.  Because it is transparent, when you use it on blond or grey hair it will dye it a bright orange.  On brown hair it gives an auburn color, and on black hair the color isn't really visible except when the sun shines on it, giving it a kind of red glow. I know a lot of people with black hair who use henna just to condition their hair; they love how silky and shiny and thick their hair gets from applying henna.  I use henna on my hair. I have medium-brown hair so the color I get is a beautiful auburn; my greys (about 10% of my hair is grey) come out orange so they end up looking like natural highlights. I often apply henna and indigo (a natural dye) to give myself a dark brown color; this is a great option for those who don't always want red hair. It covers grey really well and leaves the hair incredibly healthy.

Has anyone Dyed their hair black w/ Henna & Indigo?

It does work yes! What you have to do to achieve naturally jet black hair is first apply natural henna for 45 minutes to one hour. Then mix Indigo and apply it immediately and let it sit for 1 hour.
The result over a 24-48 hour period will be jet black.

You can also use dark brown and do it again in 2 weeks and it will get darker each time you do it. The third time you can do it 6 weeks later or when your roots grow out and it will keep getting darker.

This way is better as it is just a one step process. OR
Do the two step process and then use a dark brown or burgundy and you will have black hair with a beautiful high light.

Hennas will only go darker, so the more you use them the darker the hair will get.
