Will My Algebra Grade Hurt Me

Should I take algebra II online? Will it hurt my mathematics understanding?

A2A, thanks. The quality of instruction is as good as the instructor, online or live. What is absent from online courses is immediate interaction with the instructors in real time if you have a question. But, I am not sure that realt-time live interaction is ultimately more valuable than an opportunity to formulate one’s question and post it on a forum for multiple candidate answerers to tackle. So, unless you have the specific emotional makeup that prefers a live person to a computer screen (the kind of person who always prefers a live bank teller to an ATM), I don’t see the harm.

If Algebra 1 was easy for me, will Algebra 2 be easy enough to take honors?

in 8th grade, i was at the honors math level, taking algebra 1. however, my teacher was...( ) so i kinda did not understand anything. in 9th grade, i decided to retake alg 1 and it was great. my teacher was awesome and i got an A the whole year, then a 100% on my final. this year, i'm taking geometry and it is sort of like 8th grade all over again, except i'm not doing as bad. Next year, i am hoping to take algebra 2 but i dont know whether i should take honors or not. if i did well in alg 1, will it be hard for me to take Algebra 2 Honors? (despite my lack of geometry skilzz :P)

D for final Algebra 2 grade Junior Year?

Hi, This year I received a D+(73) in my algebra 2 class as my yearly grade. Because this is my junior year, I am a bit nervous. I got an A, B+,B,B in my other classes as my yearly grades, but it's just math this is hurting me. I was wondering if this math grade would significantly hurt my chances of getting into any colleges.

Thanks!

Is it bad to be taking pre-algebra in 8th grade? I have a 95 and I want to move up to algebra 1 but it is the middle of the year.

I agree with Franklin Jones. You will be fine. I have tutored 8th grade students up to Algebra 1 without too many problems….Although you will have to put in more work than you anticipate. Some Algebra concepts are hard for 8th graders…probably because many of them aren’t willing, disciplined or motivated enough to do the work….which can be said for many students in this country, regardless of their age.

Will one 9th grade semester hurt my records?

So I'm very ashamed of my self right now because I'm taking algebra 1 and earth science and all regular classes and I got an average below 80 this semester. I got 2 c's a bunch of b's and a couple a's. I always procrastinate and screw my grades up. I want to take algebra 2 and geometry next year but by this work I'm never gonna do it. Will this one semester hurt my GPA and college applications in the future? I want to go to nyu but I'm way below than what I need to get in. I have a huge procrastinating problem and I cant stop getting distracted when its time to work. Will this one 82 average semester hurt me?

Got a C+ as my final grade in 8th grade Algebra (High School Credit) HELP?!?

In 8th grade only 2 classes counted to HS, French& Algebra. I got a C+! I have all As on my final report card this year except a B in Band. I want to go to Ivy Leagues, and these grades are hurting me! What should I do? Do they care about 8th grade credits? I asked my counselor to retake Algebra over summer but she said it'd be a waste of my time because both grades still show up. If I get a high GPA (by getting As in honors& APs) and all As throughout the rest of HS (along w/ ECs) will the ivys care about a C+ and a B?

How can I catch up to calculus in 12th grade if I took Algebra 1 in the 9th grade?

How can I catch up to calculus in 12th grade if I took Algebra 1 in the 9th grade? So I am assuming the course sequence is:Algebra 1GeometryAlgebra 2Pre-Calculus (with or without Trigonometry)CalculusYou could take an online course or a summer school course to pick up the extra year. But I think a better option is to double up sophomore year on both Geometry and Algebra 2. Every math course builds on previous math courses, but Algebra 2 builds more on Algebra 1 than it does on Geometry. So this double up will hurt you the least in missing prerequisite material. Of course every high school has its own sets of policies so this may not be an option. Math tends to have daily work, are you ready to devote time to doing two different math assignments every night? Whichever option you are thinking of please check with both your counseling department and your high school math department.

Will being in Algebra 1 my freshman year destroy my chances of going to a selective school?

First of all, you shouldn’t worry about what you did in middle school. It will not be part of your GPA or the official transcript you send to colleges.Second, admission to an Ivy League school depends on way more than what you do in one class. After three and a half years in high school, you will have formed a pattern that colleges will look at to see if you fit into the class of freshman they are trying to put together.Ask yourself the following questions:Are the courses I am taking rigorous? Do they include Honors, AP and college courses?Do I have 4s and 5s on my AP Tests?Am I in the top 10% of my class?Am I in the 97th percentile or higher of SAT or ACT test takers?Do I have a perfect or near perfect score on my SAT Subject Tests? How do I show prospective schools that I love to learn? Are my extracurricular activities focused enough to show that I excel at a few things that I am passionate about? What can I do to give back to my community and people less fortunate than me?Do I have any significant accomplishments or contributions on a state or national level? How do I show that I can play nice in the sandbox with my peers? Will my teachers and guidance counselor recommend me enthusiastically? What do I want to show about myself in my essay and interview that is authentic and interesting? And perhaps importantly, why do I want to attend HYP that shows them I will add value to the school as a student?

Might fail college algebra..and wondering..?

You may be able to retake the class with a different professor and not have this grade count at all. How much it will hurt you depends on your major.

If you have any kind of science or technical major, you will need math, and that means you have to pass this class to move into the next one. If the math class is only a GE, see if you can take it at a community college, which will be cheaper, and apply the grade.

As a math enthusiast, I hate to tell you that math isn't important, even if your major is French literature or something. But honestly, it may not be. If you aren't on scholarship, and if your GPA is sufficient to graduate regardless of your grade in this class, you may be OK. Are you planning on going to graduate school? If so, a lowered GPA could hurt you.

The reality is that once you graduate from college, less than 1/3 of people are working in fields related to their major after five years. Ten years after you graduate, no one will care what you studied in college or how well you did; everything will related to your work since then.
