How long to expect my mother to live? (cancer)?
I know that's a terrible question to be asking, but I want to know. Her doctor refused to tell me anything about her cancer, as far as the specifics. All I know is, in October of 2008 my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. SHE told me that the DR told HER that it was unrelated to smoking, although, she has been a chain smoker since she was 15 years old (she was 66 when she was diagnosed). They told her that when they found the cancer it was right on her lung next to the bone, and therefore had probably spread into her bones. Immediately she began radiation every day. I went with her (she lives an hour and a half from me, and I work full-time. I'd go to the hospital and stay with her my when I working) She did radiation every day for 34 days I think. And immediately 24 days she began chemotherapy w/radiation. She did that for several months. And every time she had chemo I would sit with her, and baby her, and make sure she didn't have to lift a finger, and I was there for her until I had to go to work. Until around February of 2009. She was scheduled to come in 2 times a month for chemo but she dropped all of her appointments. She told me that the chemo made her too sick and she couldn't handle it anymore. She said to me " The chemo doesnt help you, they just want to take your money because they know you're dying " And since February of 2009 she has not been to chemo or radiation. This has scared me because I want my mom to live. And I want to be able to see her more often and I want her be able to see her grandchildren (she doesnt have any yet)....

Will I get a waiver this October to be a army ranger?
Getting in as an Army Ranger should be at the back of your mind and getting in, period, should be your concern. Rangers require a Secret clearance and even if you did get a waiver to join your possession charge would most likely disqualify you from the clearance for most of your first enlistment. Assuming you stayed out of trouble your first two or three years in you could always apply for RASP then. Of course, your chances of getting in are between slim and none. Contrary to popular belief, October has little to do with what standards the Army will enforce. It may be the beginning of the fiscal year, but decisions are made well in advance. The Army hasn't granted possession waivers for drug convictions since 2009 and that was before the drawdown went into full gear like it is now. Keep checking, none of us are recruiters and standards can change anytime. Also, consider the National Guard since their standards are based on the individual state instead of the country as a whole. If you get into the Guard you can stay there for awhile and then attempt to go active duty at a later date if they are accepting prior service when you are trying to make the switch.

Jury Duty: What can I expect the first day?
I used to be a court stenographer in Los Angeles. What happens is a jury consists of 12 jurors, and then some alternates, usually two. The alternates will sit next to the jury box and listen to the whole trial right along with you. The alternates are in case for some reason, an emergency, one of the jurors cannot complete jury duty and they will move an alternate into the jury box to take the place of the dismissed juror. I've seen as many as 12 alternates, but that was an unusually long trial about some real bad baddies. That almost never happens. In order to get a fair jury of 12 people and a couple of alternates, around 200 people will be summoned. This is how seriously we take our jury system. You don't just call 12 people and tell them to have a seat. A group of 12 people will randomly be selected and fill the jury box, and then you will go through a process called jury voir dire. This is prosecution's and defense counsel's opportunity to question you about things to see if you're fit for THIS jury. In other words, say it's a stolen car case. You've had your car stolen six times. You MIGHT have a bias towards someone accused of stealing cars. You probably will not get chosen for that jury because your thoughts might bring undue prejudice to the defendant. At the point the first 12 are seated and spoken to, the prosecution and the defense have an opportunity to strike you from the jury. Let's say you get stricken from the jury because of your lack of love for car thieves. You're dismissed from THIS case, but the judge can tell you, go back to the jury clerk. You might be a really good juror for the court down the hall. You'd go back to the jury clerk, and she would send you to another jury. Or the judge can tell you, You're done for the year; thank you for coming in. If you get seated on the jury, even as an alternate, the judge will tell you when to come back and sit for trial. Don't worry about how long you'll be a juror. The judge will tell you right off the bat, This case is expected to last for two weeks. Could go longer; could go shorter. But the judge will tell you that. Be honest in your answers. You might well have quite the story to tell when you get out of jury duty. Good luck!

Your rights are as such, you can't give legal consent to anything until the age of 18yrs old. Sure you can say all you want, but that don't make it so in the eye's of the law, but in private life no one really cares, and your moms right it's not as if you can't wait an engagement is to declare a betrothal (promise of marriage to a certain person) be announced to all and your not in the legal position to do so. Your 17yrs old now, it's not all about show and tell, it is time to grow up and understand these traditions have a purpose, even in this day and age, it lets all know a wedding is to be expected in the near future. Personally i was a bit worried when i saw the ICS New York status, i thought it was a customs hold (since i was ordering medicine and none of my packages have ever been in ICS) and after reading posts like this i was terrified that it would take weeks for my package to be processed. Fortunately, my package spent 2 days there, and another 2 days to my door in Chicago. They send packages out on a 1st come 1st out basis, so i'd imagine living in a big city where there is alot of traffic would speed up the process. Also, they ARE customs so if they have to inspect whatever you're getting, it could take an ungodly amount of time for them to clear it. From these posts it seems the norm is 3-7 days, although most people don't post on here unless it takes their package 3+ weeks.
