What is "Peppermint Spirit" and what are its uses?

Peppermint is helpful for many stomach ailments and promotes good digestion. Because it has a calming and numbing effect, it is useful for headaches and skin irritations, and may aid in the treatment of anxiety associated with depression. It also relieves many symptoms of colds and flu.

Peppermint is helpful for nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, morning sickness, and flatulence. It calms the muscles of the stomach and improves the flow of bile, which the body uses to digest fats. As a result, food passes through the stomach more quickly, which helps many digestive problems. Peppermint also relaxes the muscles that allow the body to rid itself of painful digestive gas.

These are some of the other conditions that may be improved by peppermint:

Menstrual cramps—Because peppermint is effective for relaxing muscles, it is very helpful for painful cramps.
Irritable bowel syndrome—Research has shown that enteric-coated peppermint capsules are able to calm and soothe intestinal muscles. This provides pain relief and healing for this common stress-related syndrome.
Gallstones—Peppermint oil can help the body break down gallstones, providing a safe alternative to surgery.
Viruses—Peppermint oil has exhibited antiviral properties and may be helpful in the treatment of some viral conditions such as flu, mumps, sinusitis, sore throats, cold sores, and genital sores caused by herpes.
Itching and skin irritations—Peppermint has a soothing and cooling effect on skin irritations caused by hives, poison ivy, or poison oak.
Tension headaches and migraines—Research has shown that peppermint oil's ability to relax muscles and relieve pain has made it particularly effective against headache pain.
Colds and flu—Peppermint and its main active agent, menthol, are effective decongestants. Because menthol thins mucus, it is also a good expectorant. It is soothing and calming for sore throats and dry coughs as well.

Pepto bismal for morning sickness?? Im desperate!?

If you can not keep anything down, call your doctor. It is very dangerous for a pregnant woman to become dehydrated. I had morning sickness 24 hours a day for 4 months straight with both of my pgs. With my first, I ended up in the hospital due to dehydration. With my second, my doctor prescribed me Reglan and it helped a lot. There were a few days though that I couldn't quit getting sick long enough for the pills to work so my OB also prescribed me Zofran, which is a dissolvable pill. It is easier to prevent than it is to reverse dehydration.

Morning sickness so bad I can't eat?

I am 7 weeks with my second baby, and between the stress of school and work, and my 6 month old daughter and morning sickness I can't stomach anything down.

I drink at least 8 bottles of water/day because I know how important it is to be hydrated, but that also makes me sick. Anytime I even nibble on food, like saltine crackers my stomach instantly gets upset and I have to run to the bathroom to throw it up. I found out I was pregnant 1 week ago and 2 days after I found out I got morning sickness.

I have lost 4lbs in that week. I want to try to take my daughter for walks, or go swimming but I am so sick I can't do anything.

I know it will get better, but is it okay to be losing weight this rapidly? I am 176 lbs, so my body has extra fat to feed off of haha, but I know I need to be eating.

Has anybody else lost a significant amount of weight during the first trimester?

Pregnancy and Morning/Afternoon/Night Sickness?

"Morning sickness" is a misnomer as it does not happen only in the morning. It's a response to the sudden surge of hormones your body is experiencing (that's the theory anyway). Nausea can strike at any time of the day. For me, it was from about an hour after I woke up until I went to sleep at night (thankfully I didn't have any vomiting, just constant low-level nausea). Eating smaller, more frequent meals instead of trying to stick to 3 or even 4 bigger meals a day will help as your stomach won't be empty. Chewing on ginger or drinking ginger ale can also help settle your stomach (it did wonders for me). Eating more bland foods may also help (there was about a week and a half where I swear the only things I ate were saltine crackers and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches). If none of these things helps and you are concerned that you are not taking in enough nutrients, talk to your OB about prescribing an anti-nausea medication.
