Will Running 30 Minutes A Day Get Me Back Into Shape

Will running one mile everyday get me in shape?

Uh yeah. I lost 100 pounds in 5 months running every day. I switched from every day to every other day (still doing other exercise every day) and my results slowed down drastically. Went back to running every day and my fitness and weight loss is on a roll again. Running is the alpha and the omega of fitness.

Oh and you will be doing a lot more than a mile after even a month if you do it every day. It took me about a month to go from 1 mile a day to like 3, and now I'm up to 5.

What will running for 20 minutes a day do for me?

First of all, it's good that you want to do this. I find that getting the motivation to get started is the hardest part.

Let's talk about running- when your running it's important to vary your workouts. Running for 20 minutes a day is good, but some days should be different than others. You should have days where you run farther and longer, like try running for 30 or 35 minutes without stopping. On these days it's okay to run a little slower, you're working on building endurance here.

Some days you should do shorter, faster paced workouts. On these days, you are working on what's called "pace-work". Try running a 400 or 800 quickly. Then take a rest until you catch your breath. Repeat this 2 more times. Try doing these days at least twice a week, and the longer days also at least twice a week. The other days can be what you feel like running.

Besides running, you can do other exercises to tone your legs and abs. Try doing wall-sits (where you sit with your back against the wall in an invisible chair), lunges (which can be made more difficult if you use weights), and squats.
A really good exercise for your abdominals is the "plank". Try holding this for a minute. If you don't know what this looks like, look up a picture for the abdominal plank on google.

I was on the cross country team last fall, and just a month ago I started running again. Already I've noticed a big difference. I'm getting back into shape, and toning my legs. I think that a month is a good amount of time to start training, and to improve. You will improve if you stick to this, and your thighs especially will be more sculpted.

A good snack food, which you can also eat for breakfast and lunch are bananas. The potassium in them helps you to not get cramps while you're running. I usually try to have at least half of a banana for breakfast before a race. Two days before you run something important, eat pasta. The carbs in pasta help you to run faster. You run on what you ate two days before, which is why you would eat this two days before a big race or meet. Carbohydrates and starches are good for runners to have.

I hope that you try what I have suggested. I know that it works for me. Good luck!

Is 30 minutes of running a day not enough?

Nope, that should do it.

Just stick to eating whole foods, eating small meals 5-6 times a day, make sure you do keep lifting weights because it burns more calories then cardio alone.

Do weights and cardio 5-6 days a week and you will be just fine. I only do 30 mins of cardio 5 days a week....lift weights 6 days a week.

Will Running 30 min. a day help me lose weight?

yes, absolutely - to boost this, drink water, forget about health drinks, and soda's just water. whatever on your current fit is, if a bit overweight you will get results in 4-6 weeks, first you'll notice beeing very tired, a little later you will get more and more energy.
(of course this depends how fit/unfit you are...) but keep it going, nomatter how tired.

How hard is it to run a mile in 6 minutes?

It’s not difficult, and it doesn’t require much training. Little kids can run 6-minute miles with minimal training. Most people can do it, if they try! It just takes a little experience. The trick is remembering that running fast is different from jogging. Most people just go out for a jog. They never do anything to teach themselves to run fast. If you want to learn how to run fast, you have to try to run fast on a regular basis. One interval workout per week should do the trick. You also have to learn how to run with an efficient form. Running fast helps your form, so the more often you do those track workouts, the better. But, honestly, it doesn’t take much effort to run a 6-minute mile. You can do it!

Is running 3 miles in 30 minutes good if I’m a 17-year-old male who doesn’t run regularly?

Yes.I remember back in the day, some of my friends went into the military. The Marines came back and told us their test was 3 miles in 20 minutes.I set out to do it and eventually did it, I think maybe less than 10 times. I was in VERY good shape, this was some years ago.Two years ago I passed the FBI fitness test for new applicants. I got a pin :) The running test was challenging, but 3 miles in 30 minutes pretty much puts you in the ballpark.Since then my benchmark has been 3 miles in 30 minutes, done with some aplomb (not staggering off the treadmill etc), as an indicator of my overall fitness. If I can do it, I’m keeping it real, if I huff and puff hugely I need to up my game, if I can’t do it…we’ll see (I’ve never not been able to do it, probably because I keep doing it).

Is working out your upper body and running in the same day bad for you?

I've gotta get back in shape for the soccer season and tack on some upper body muscle mass (just enough to make the ladies happy, if you know what I mean) and I was wondering If I jog for 20-30 minutes each day (nothing special, just a simple run around the neighborhood), then maybe an hour later lift some weights (upper body, no squatting etc.), would that be efficient or not?

Also, on the flip side, What if I lifted weights and then ran for about 20-30 minutes? I have read articles expressing different opinions... so anyone's advice is helpful. Thanks!

And if this helps:
Im 15 years old, 5'11 and 135-140 lbs.
