Will Swimming Help With Weight Loss

Will swimming 2KM each day help me lose weight?

Lately I've been swimming about 2-2.5km three times a week and it's become my favourite way to exercise. I've been trying to lose my last few kilo's for a few weeks and I've become quite slack! I understand completely about the 80-20 rule and that my diet will effect any kind of weight loss, but I was wondering if swimming will help lose these last few kilos easily?

I've also been slaking on healthy eating so that has probably been effecting my end result. Does anybody have any tips for eating correctly?
I do other cardiovascular activities apart from swimming 3 times a week and also love bike riding, incase that helps.

Thanks!

Does swimming help you lose weight?

I need to have a body of a hollister model for the summer for my cousins wedding. There's going to be an after party at the pool and she said we all have to look skinny in our bathing suits. So starting in spring I'm going to swim 3 days a week for 2 hours. I don't do laps I just swim free style and play lol. Will this make me really skinny?

Will swim team help me lose weight?

Indeed, it would. :) I'm three weeks into my season with double sessions Monday through Friday and one practice on Saturday, with school starting on the eighth of this month, and, even before the tough practices have begun, I've lost around 15 lbs, not even trying! I went from 130 lbs to 117. And mind you, I was already at a good weight for my height and didn't change my diet around. Just remember, if you decide to join the team, it is a HARD sport! I'm a senior, been swimming since seventh grade, and it doesn't get easy until my coach starts tapering us off for sectionals! But it's so rewarding, too. :) My advice is go for it! Just make SURE you eat well. No diets, unless said diet is only cutting down on completely eliminating junk food! You burn sooooo many carbs and calories during swimming, you will quickly learn that you can eat quite a bit of healthy food and not gain weight! (For me, anyhow!)
Best of luck!

Can we lose weight by swimming?

Actually, you can do a lot more! Swimming is basically a resistance workout for every inch of your body. According to studies, a light swim can burn around 500 calories an hour, while an intense is 700 or more!Another amazing thing about using swimming as a workout, is that unlike other cardio excercizes, swimming isn't going to strain your body. Since you aren't actually pushing off a solid material or pushing your joints every time your feet hit the ground, it's extremely beneficial to long term health.Swimming also increases lung strength, stamina and provides a total body workout (:

Is swimming good for Weight loss?

very so. it is one of the best exercises you can do because it exercises your arms, legs, back, and heart and lungs. swimming about 20-30 minutes for 6-7 days a week is a great way to help loose weight and get in shape. but dont forget the old "dont eat for 30 mins. before you swim." and also stretch before you get in the pool too.

=)

Will swimming help me to gain weight and muscle?

Swimming is a lot like running, except with your upper body.Your body has different muscle fibers:Type I: These muscles exist for stability and for endurance. They brace your body, maintain posture and are used during repetitive activities. These are also called slow-twitch muscles.Type II:  These muscles are called fast-twitch muscles and exist for short bursts of high intensity activity. They're broken down into two groups, as well:Type IIa: These muscles have similarities to type IIb and type I. They can use both anaerobic metabolism and aerobic metabolism for energy sources. They are capable of power and endurance to a degree.Type IIb: These muscles are only capable of anaerobic metabolism. They're the slowest to activate, can generate the most power, but only last for short periods of time.Type I muscles are highly adaptable with hypertrophy through both resistance training and, to a degree, aerobic training.  When trained, Type IIb muscles are converted to Type IIa in order to be of better use. Additionally, type IIa muscles increase in power output and size.[1] Initially, you'll almost definitely see some minor weight gain (unless you lose fat at a greater rate than you gain muscle) from muscle hypertrophy. If you're untrained, you'll see more of type II at first. Someone who's stronger will see more type I. In the end, both people will grow their type I muscle fibers. However, after a couple of weeks, chances are your growth will slow and possibly stop. Swimming, even a sprint, is a cardiovascular activity. You take a ton of light weight actions well below 20% of your 1 rep maximum meaning that in order to keep gaining muscle you will have to constantly swim harder and/or longer.  With regards to weight gain, if you're a swimmer capable of keeping up lap swimming for at least an hour it's remarkably difficult to keep your weight up. Swimming at a high level burns a tremendous amount of calories and it's tough for some people to eat enough to keep up with the demand.Generally speaking, swimming is not the best activity if you're looking to gain weight...In any case, the key to weight loss and gain is diet. Eat more to gain weight.Lifting weights and eating more protein specifically are great ways to prevent the extra weight from becoming fat, but it's not exactly required.Footnotes[1] Skeletal muscle hypertrophy

300 lbs and learning to swim. will this help me lose weight. what else can I do to lose major pounds?

Swimming can help a bit.

For weight loss, dieting is more effective than exercise.

Reducing your intake of fats will help.

Supper needs to be abolished as supper calories are even more fattening than dinner calories as you don't burn them up with most of the day behind you. Breakfast calories are the least fattening followed by lunch calories as you burn them up with most of the day ahead of you.

Reducing your intake of junk sugar will help. Foods or drinks such as coke and other soft drinks, desserts, sweets, cakes, cookies or biscuits must be eliminated or substantially reduced. Cereals must be restricted to those that contain less than 15% total sugars and junk sugar loaded foods such as pizzas must be avoided. Junk sugar bowls must be abolished. Oatmeal, oat bran, wheat bran and wheat germ are good cereals that can help for weight loss.

Junk sugar health hazards are discussed in a web search for "sugar health hazards".

The natural sugars in fruit and vegetables are OK as they metabolise to glucose slowly due to their high fiber content so they have a low to medium GI value. Fruit and vegetables are low in calories and are not fattening. Most fruit and vegetables are metabolism boosting foods and that helps for weight loss. Potatoes and sweet potatoes are exceptions and can be fattening.

Fattening combinations that you need to avoid include combinations of protein foods (such as eggs, meat, poultry, sea food, cheese and nuts) with starchy carbohydrates (such as bread, cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes and corn).

Is swimming good for weight loss and health?

A pool might not be the first place you think of going when you're looking to shape up and slim down but perhaps it should be. No other workout burns calories, boosts metabolism, and firms every muscle in your body (without putting stress on your joints) better than a swimming workout. How Water WorksThe body shaping benefits of swimming workouts are the result of a perfect storm of calorie burn and muscle recruitment. An easy swim burns around 500 calories an hour, while a vigorous effort can torch almost 700. And because water is nearly 800 times denser than air, each kick, push, and pull is like a mini resistance workout for your entire body especially your core, hips, arms, shoulders, and glutes. So in addition to blasting calories as you swim, you build lean muscle, which ignites your metabolism so that you burn more calories once you've showered and dried off.Water basically neutralizes gravity, so you become virtually weightless when immersed, giving your joints a much-needed vacation. "You can swim almost every day without risking injury," says Joel Stager, Ph.D., director of the Counsilman Center for the Science of Swimming at Indiana University at Bloomington, who has studied the effects of swimming for years. "You can't say the same for running or strength training."And that makes swimming something you can do for your entire life a major bonus because it can literally help you stay younger: "Our research shows that habitual swimmers are biologically up to 20 years younger than their actual age," Stager says. The data, which were presented at an American College of Sports Medicine Conference, revealed that a swimmer's blood pressure, cholesterol levels, cardiovascular performance, central nervous system, and cognitive functioning are all comparable to someone far younger.Still Struggling to lose weight?
