Will The Humane Society Let Me Adopt A Pet From Them Again I Did Return A Cat 6 Months Ago. She

What is an acceptable reason for returning a dog to the shelter?

i could never imagine anything that would cause me to take a dog to a shelter ... even when i found a stray, i found him a home ... when an older landlord i had died, i took his dog and found it a home, basically took it out of the hands of the person who was bringing it to the spca ... i think once you truly love a dog, thinking of it in a cage and barely cared for, i personally could not do it ... i think if someone has problems training, controlling or otherwise dealing with the pet they bought, the least they can do is try and find it a home ...

Can I sue an animal shelter for allowing a sick puppy to be adopted?

I adopted a German Shepherd mix puppy from my local shelter and the day I picked up I was informed he had parasites and needed just a 3 day supply of medicines. Well I brought him home and saw he was lethargic and very light. Over the next couple of days his stomach kept messing up and all he wanted to do was sleep and cuddle. I called the shelter and they told me there was nothing they could do. I ended up taking him to a vet who charged $140 to tell me he was good but had parasites and told me I should have been informed that the medicine has to be continued for 3 months not just 3 days. It was a roller coaster because he was either ok or sick. Well I got home Thursday to find the side of his neck was swollen. I cleaned it, looked for a bite/sting and figured he may.be allergic to something so I gave him a small dosage of Benedeyll. Thei next morning the swelling moved ro his belly and turned one side blue. We call another vet and they tell us it may be the parasites just acting up and theyd schedule an appointment on Monday. This morning I walk in and hes completely paralyzed and is dying. I rush him to an emergency clinic and had to pay $235 for them to try stabilizing him and putting him down. They told me he didnt really have a chance. Im completely heart broken by this situation and am seeking advice.

Someone who has adopted a cat using Petsmart?

I know for a fact that the "Petco" and "Petsmart" cats and dogs come from shelters. About 6 months ago, our local shelter "shipped" down to a PetSmart in the Denver area about 30 cats due to the overpopulation at the shelter here. They have been adopted, thankfully!!! If a cat/dog has behavioral problems, please don't blame it on Petco or Petsmart, they cannot control this! But please do consider these fine establishments a great alternative to actually visiting the shelters to find a new "luvie" for your family!

Have a MEOWY day!

My adopted cat just hides???......First time cat owner?

She's just nervous cause her surroundings have changed. Was she in one of the upper cages at the shelter? Being there for that long, she probably got accustomed to being the same height as people and seeing everyone at face level. Suddenly being outside the cage and seeing how small she is in comparison may have her a bit frightened for awhile..
I had the same thing happen with a female cat I adopted. She was friendly as could be at the shelter, but, once she came home she hid for weeks. Sometimes, it will help if you lay down on the floor so you're the same level as her and tempt her over with strong smelling cat treats or a little bit of chicken or tuna.
She probably will be a really friendly cat again once she feels comfortable there. It took my cat about 6 months to start really coming up for attention and now a year later she jumps in my lap and is just as nice as she was at the shelter.
That's kind of the thing with cats, you can't really push anything with them and they don't normally make friends immediately. They do everything carefully and gradually.
The first couple weeks you have a new cat, it's a good idea to keep them in their own room, like a bathroom, with their food and litter pan so they can get more comfortable with their surroundings without being exposed to all of it at once.
Go in there several times a day and offer treats while down at eye level with her.
Best of luck
Edited to add: It doesn't really matter what room of your house you keep her in. I suggested the bathroom because it sounds like she's a bit scared of you too along with the new environment. A small room like a bathroom gives them the opportunity to be introduced to all the different smells in your home while still being able to see everything going on in their room. I always use the bathroom for introducing a new cat myself. First of all, I know I will be in their several times a day, second of all, every surface is washable. If she just came home from the shelter, it's a good idea to keep them in a room that's easy to disinfect in case the stress of moving causes her to get sick. If she's doing well after a week or so, then start letting her out for a little while everyday until she seems comfortable.

Has anyone ever asked for their pet back that you adopted from a shelter?

Two years ago, I adopted a little miniature schnauzer from our local shelter. She had been found running with another dog on the streets of our city and was very skittish and scared of loud noises. By the time I adopted her, she had already been at the shelter for 2 weeks. She was heart worm positive and had been passed over several times by potential adopters.I took her home and we started heart worm treatment right away. It’s quite grueling on the dog and makes them feel lethargic and unwell for weeks. The dog also has to be kept quiet and crated for 6 weeks so the heart worms don’t break off and kill the dog, like a clot.Fast forward 9 months and I received a text message from a woman claiming that I had her dog and that I had “bought “ her from the shelter. She knew some details about my dog, but I really didn’t feel like responding after all the time and money and love that I had already invested in this little dog. She was a part of our family now. I did go to our shelter to inquire about my legal status and was told that the dog was legally mine, no questions asked.I think that if I had been approached within the first week I had her, it might have been different. Also the fact that she sat in the shelter for several weeks and was heartworm positive, leads me to believe that the dog was not being well taken care of. If I lost my dog, the shelter would be the first place I would look.It was a very strange experience and had me looking over my shoulder and half expecting someone to show up at my house and dognap my little dog. Luckily it didn’t happen.

How to turn my indoor cat to outdoors cat?

please please reconsider this option...indoor cats don't do well outside unless u hv a catio totally screened in with no ways out...in reality yer 5 yr old kitty wont survive with u doing this...I know u say u love her and if u do then u hv some hard choices to make...there is ways for her to b kept indoors n gramma still being able to live there...there will b some work on yer end but reality is u can do it...personally I could never let a indoor cat outdoors and expect it to b able to survive..and just a heads up u say hr/she has all the shots n is neutered...well female cats r not neutered they r spayed...if by choice u don't wanna keep her inside please consider rehoming her...there r lots of people out there that will tk in a cat if there spayed.neutered n hv there shots...best of luck to u...p.s. I really hope u didn't expecr kind answers on this post as there are a lot of animal lovers out there and this kinda thing is just wrong in the eyes of others...please rethink yer thoughts on this...hagn

I adopted a 5 week old kitten, could someone help me out?

OMG.
1. 5 weeks is WAY too young to be seperated from his mother - he hasnt even been weaned yet which is why he isnt eating the food you are giving him. you need to get some kitten formula (NEVER feed a cat cows milk) from the petstore and start feedning him immediately. yes, he is probably dehydrated because of this.

2. NEVER declaw a cat!!!!!!!!! it is illegal in most countries and any GOOD vet will refuse to do it.
it causes permanent painful problems. cat claws are NOT like human fingernails. they actually have to amputate the last bone in each toe - this causes MAJOR problems. firstly to do with balance. in a few years, he will begin to have muscle and ligament pain because his natural balance has changed slightly from removing his toes. they can also still have feeling in their missing toe like human amputees have - ever tried scratching an itch on a toe that doesnt exist?? they also develop litter problems - he will be pooing all over your house.
get him a product called SOFTPAWS. these are little caps that you glue to his nails so that he cant scratch anything. get them from here - www.softpaws.com

3. diarrhea is not normal and is not ok - it can kill a kitten very fast from dehydration and stripping nutrients from his body. firstly you need to give him the kitten formula (he wont drink water because he hasnt been weaned yet) - secondly, because it has blood in it he probably has bad worms - he needs to be treated for them immediately.

bottom line - you need to get him to a vet. by now he would be dehydrated and will probably ned an IV. he also needs to be treated for worms.. and needs to be put on kitten formula ASAP. do it NOW. do not wait until tomorrow to get him formula - a kitten will die in 1.5 days without adequate liquids.

seriously, get him formula and the the vets immediately or you are going to have a dead kitten on your hands.
