Will This Damage My Teeth

Will filing your teeth with a nail file cause damage?

You say you have braces?
Well, when I got my braces off the doctor filed down my teeth as part of the procedure, so yours will probably do that too.
It's probably not a good idea to do this yourself, but you have already done it so it's not like we can change that.
Just don't do it again, and next time you see the dentist/orthodontist ask them about having your teeth filed down.

Can a cavitron damage my teeth?

Hi there,
About a week and a half ago, I went for my normal cleaning & checkup at my dentist office. They used something to clean my teeth I have never heard of/experienced before. It was called a cavitron (a tool with a metal tip that vibrates ultrasonically and water flushes away the bacteria and plaque in your teeth). During the cavitron procedure, the hygienist hit something and I felt a jolt of pain. My natural reaction was to push her hand away. She stopped and then continued when I was ok again and I didn't feel pain after that. So all was fine - no cavities, clean mouth. The next day, any time I eat anything liquid or cold/hot there is a sharp nerve-like pain on the right side of my mouth. I couldn't tell what tooth exactly it was coming from. It is a pretty bad ache. It hasn't gone away since, but sometimes its not as bad and I can guess what tooth the pain is coming from.

Now what would have caused this? Would the cavitron have damaged my teeth/tooth? What was that sharp pain when the hygienist hit something? I called the dentist and they said I should come in for xrays. If I need to get work done, I am going to be very upset, since I don't have dental insurance and have to pay out of pocket...all because they used this cavitron on me.

Any help/ideas what this is?

Thanks.

Will I do any damage by forcing my retainer over my teeth?

It could. See your orthodontist.I’m not going to lecture you but want to explain the “could” instead of using “it will.” Retainers, as mentioned in other answers, are to hold. Retention is for life: 24/7 for the first six months and then night time wear after that. Once upon a time, in a galaxy far away, orthodontists would actually leave the braces on for another six months after treatment.Retainers, though, can also be made to be active. They use gentle force to make slight movements. That’s where the “could” comes in. It depends on how long you have been out of treatment and how much your teeth have shifted. If it is not that much, your orthodontist might just say to slap that sucker back in. But that is for a trained professional to say, after an examination. If you apply too much force too quickly, there is a danger of damaging the roots of the teeth. Implants are far more expensive than an exam.

Will Orthofill damage my teeth?

If you use Orthofill as directed then they will not weaken nor damage your teeth and are safe to use. However if you have had previous teeth problems then we suggest for you to consult your dentist before using Orthofill. Orthofill has a FAQ section on their website. You can go there and see the answers yourself. Go here to see more.

Will a plastic tongue ring damage my teeth/gums?

I want my tongue pierced but I'm scared the metal tongue ring will break my tooth enamel and/or wear down my gums and stuff but I hear a plastic tongue ring will be fine ? I'm 15 .

Will a Monroe piercing damage my teeth or gums?

I'm not sure if that last answer was necessary at all lol. NO, it shouldn't bother your gums or teeth at all unless you have an oddly shaped mouth. I'd assume you don't because you are getting done with braces. I'd imagine gum/cheek infection might occur if you don't take care of the piercing.
As well, this piercing has very little pain associated with it. When I got mine done I thought the man had put a clamp on me and was going to get the needle when in fact that "clamp" feeling was already the completed piercing. Also mine healed rather quickly, it did not get red or oozy at all and was fully healed in about 2 weeks. I used sea salt and warm water rinses to keep it clean. I'm thinking a dimple piercing might be the only cuter thing. Good Luck to you! :)

Does eating ice damage your teeth?

I love ice!!! I can't stop even if it means my teeth will ache for about 30 minutes afterwards. I still crunch away. I've been crunching on the good stuff for about 10 years now. I do get depressed if I'm out somewhere and can't find any. I go to the mall just to visit a cookie shop that has the most beautiful crushed ice. It beats Sonic and hospital ice. I work at a hopital and get a cup in the morning, at lunch, and before I leave. Then, at home it's more ice. I used to go through bags of Sonic ice like crazy, but my teeth won't allow me. I even get depressed if it's not the soft frothy ice. I know all the stores with the best ice. I do try to limit the cup size because of my tooth pain. Does anyone know a way I can enjoy ice and lessen the tooth pain? I know the best thing would be to stop, but I can't. My mouth starts watering. Pickle with ice is awesome!! Well, I'd just thought I'd share my love and pain for ice. Keep on CHOMPIN!!!!!! Oh, someone told me there is ammonia in ice

Will I damage my teeth if I quickly brush them lightly with a diluted bleach solution to remove stains?

Bleach wouldn’t work to remove stains because stain removal depends upon the length of TIME the teeth are exposed to an effective chemical. Bleach is highly toxic to living cells — such as your gums, palate, tongue, and cheek tissue — so you can’t use it in your mouth effectively.Hydrogen peroxide is effective but can be damaging to soft tissue in the concentrations needed to whiten teeth. Carbamide peroxide has the best track record for tooth whitening because it can be used in effective concentrations for a substantial time period while minimizing adverse effects to the gums.

How often can you vomit without causing teeth damage?

This is a difficult question. Actually, every time you vomit there is a acid attack on the teeth. Those with bulimia nervosa, a disorder with a distorted body image in which vomiting is used to loose or maintain an unhealthy weight, have a definite change on the inside surfaces of the teeth. This damage is extensive and difficult to treat. The amount of damage is directly proportional to the amount vomiting. So, the more you vomit, the greater the damage. Occasion vomiting due to stomach flu or contaminated food, is a normal body function and the damage to the teeth is well within a range of safety for the enamel. If this is the issue you are dealing with, you should seek professional help. As your family physician for help.
