How do protein shakes help gain muscle?

They don’t, correct training and caloric surplus helps you gain muscle. They can be a part of your diet in order to get enough calories, but they are not essential. There is not much calories in proteins, and they are slowly absorbed, so they actually require some energy in order to be metabolized. If you eat more proteins than you can metabolize, the excess will end up in the toilet when you pee. You need a certain amount of proteins, and 1.5 to 2 grams per kilo bodyweight is usually sufficient, unless you are on steroids, then you can probably take a little more. What makes you grow is the correct stimuli to the musles, and hormones, and caloric surplus. So make sure you get enough of complex carbs and good fats, and a good dose of quick carbs immediately after a workout.

Will whey protein shakes help you lose weight or make you gain weight?

I will tell you flatly and bluntly. I am right now training ``powerlifting style’’ focusing on strengths using the big 3. I was taking whey for a while after workout and also BCAA. BCAA helped but then I was also steadily gaining fat around my midsection. Everyone kept saying you need to work your abs yada yada yada…do crunches yada yada…I can do 250 leg raises and 300 crunches but my midsection is still there…no change, zilch…In the meanwhile strengths kept increasing. I then bumped one day into internet videos of Butter Bob and Dr. Eric Berg. I learned about insulin and its role in macronutrient absorption and obesity. People in the gym struggle for years, change over to low-carb diet, do cardio like crazy and crunches even more. But to no avail. They get lean but not muscular. Eventually skinny fat…back to square one.Long story short, any lean protein — Whey, chicken breast, BCAA, fat free yoghurt, fat free milk, protein bar, WILL make you fat eventually. All these spike insulin. Repeatedly when insulin is high, your body goes to a fat storage mode. Fat releasing hormone is called glucagon which is anti-thetical to the work of insulin which works when insulin is not acting. Only macro which would not increase insulin is FAT. Yes, the scaryI have since given up on whey which I now feel is a marketing scam of the fitness industry. Post workout I take 6 whole eggs which roughly the protein you would get from the 1 scoop of whey. And please stop fearing Fat/Cholestrol. You can read on the Internet there are tons of resources and findings praising eggs and egg yoke.

How do protein shakes help me gain weight?

To gain weight, you want to add mass to your body, this can be done either by increasing muscle mass or increasing fat mass.  Muscle is, of course, the healthier choice.  In either case, to increase mass, you’ll want to increase your daily caloric intake but you want to be sure that you are increasing your calories with nutrient rich and high-calorie foods as opposed to high calorie junk foods.  And a consistent workout routine that is geared towards hypertrophy is an important key factor in gaining weight by increasing muscle mass...Protein shakes come into play when you are attempting to gain weight by increasing muscle mass.  Every time you exercise, you do a little damage to your muscles. As they heal, they grow stronger and if done properly, bigger as well.  But to do this, your muscles need certain nutrients and enzymes.  The reason most people choose to use protein shakes instead of a well thought out nutritionally complete and appropriate meal to get these necessary nutritional tools is because of convenience.  Enzymes you say?  What are those?  Enzymes are crucial for allowing your body to use the protein (amino acids) you consume, they are like the little builders and amino acids are the material they use to build muscle.  So when you shop for protein shakes, look for whey protein isolate or hemp isolate; it pays to do your research before you buy! There is no set right or wrong way to gain weight while using protein shakes, but there is a more or less effective way of doing it.  This will change slightly for every individual person.  Your best bet is to set up a consistent hypertrophy workout regimen, don’t exercise the same muscles on back-to-back days.  They need time to heal between workouts.  And then shop around for a nutritionally complete and dense protein shake to provide your muscles with the nutrition it needs to build muscle or if you like to cook, then cook yourself a nutrient rich meal post-workout.

Your primary source of energy is glucose (from carbs).
Your body can also use your protein supply as fuel depending on the work-out you're doing.

Protein is primarily used for building body parts / tissues including muscles. Next to water, your body is mostly protein.

Will protein shakes help me grow taller or get heavier with muscle I'm 15?

Protein doesn't really have much to do with you growing taller. You can only grow as tall as the growth plates in your bones will allows you to and that deals with your genes. Protein helps to build muscle IF you are working out. Otherwise it just passes through your system really.

Does anyone drink protein shakes? Do they really help to build muscle?
