It's a good start, but it isn't enough.
20 minutes isn't much, especially if you are only walking on 3.0.
You also have to eat well and exercise more to lose 50 pounds.
Losing weight is not easy and you have to bust your a$$ to loose that weight.

Will walking on a treadmill for 40 minutes a day help me lose weight?

Hi

I seen your question and had to answer it...for people saying you cant lose weight by walking on a treadmill dont know what they are talking about...Im a body builder and I walk and after the off season I drop about 30 lbs in 3 to 4 months. Its not what you do its how you do it.

I can run on a treadmill for 15 mins and maybe lose 250 to 300 calories but I can walk on a treadmill for 25 to 30 mins and lose 400 calories. The key is intensity when you walk you need to have the treadmill setting on atleast 3 to 3.7 to get the heart rate up and also get that incline up to atleast 7...I put the incline on 10 sometimes on 15 if Im short on time. I laugh when I see some people come in there runnning get all super tired and I look 15 mins later and they have burner 150 calories and they look at my treadmill and I burned 225 calories in that same time period. The key is to get the incline up and pushed that speed up. If you are trying to lose 10 lbs quickly say in a week in a half or two weeks...you need to get your calorie intake to about a 1000 calories and burn at the least 300 calories which equates to about 700 calories for that day and I gurantee you might lose 10 lbs in a week. Its all about the calories you put in and the calories you burn its not really hard to lose weight its just knowing the basics of it. some people get so overhyped about it now it might take you longer to burn 300 to 400 calories walking but do you want to be all out of breath at 10 mins of working out. You can research it most body builders walk to lose that extra weight they put on in the offseason. 25 to 30 mins on the treadmill with the incline atleast 7 to 10 and put the speed on 3 to 3.7 you will burn those calories and lose weight. I wish you luck.

edit: I've seen guys that run on a treadmill but when it came to hiking they could barely do a mile thats what the incline is for on a treadmill but you can also alternate if you want to run say for example run nonstop 3 to 4 mins walk with incline all the way up for 5 mins and just alternate but you dont have to run to lose weight thats bolonga and I dont like bolonga....people sometimes are suckers dont believe everything you hear try it first because running is not for everyone and I know a lot of people who walk and lose a lot of weight.

How much weight can I lose from walking 2 miles 5 days a week for a month?

Walking 2 miles a week may help you lose some weight in the beginning.Calories burnt by walking - 5 x 30 x 5 = 750 calories. This will help lose 400 grams in a month. However the following walking for weight lose could be better optionWalking to Lose WeightWalking burns 5 calories per minute. There are 1440 minutes in 24 hours.Average calorie consumption is 2500 for a person looking to lose weight.Calories are produced during cellular metabolic process. By exercising or increasing the burning of calories we cannot increase the production of calories during cellular metabolic process substantially. We can at best expect small changes.Calories are used by vital organs and vital processes of the body AND for physical exercises and movements. So if we start spending too much calories all of sudden on exercises there will be shortfall of calories in the body. This will be made good by restricting the calories required by vital organs. So if you keep running for hours we may die in few seconds. But there are defence mechanisms in the body which ensure that we do not run that long which can kill us.Walking for 5 minutes every hour (Around 10 times in a day) will burn 5x5x10 = 250 calories in a day.Resting Metabolic Rate was 2500/1440 x 50 = 87 calories.Net Calorie loss is 250 - 87 = 163.This is less than 7% of average calories that are consumed by a person looking to lose weight. This extra burden can be shared by increase in cellular metabolic rate within few days. How do a person feels by walking for such a short period of time.More alert, full of energy etc. This is indicative of increase in Resting Metabolic Rate. That would mean there will be extra calorie burning without an exercise, if that extra burden can be shared by cellular metabolism. So if a person keeps walking he is quite likely to increase his Resting Metabolic Rate. But if a person walks for 1 or 2 hours at a time, the extra calorie burning will be 60 x 5 or 10 = 300 or 600 calories. That will be difficult to shift this extra burden on cellular metabolism. So the body will save some calories meant for vital organs. That will cause deterioration of vital organs.Walking 2 to 5 minutes every hours means sure weight loss. The chances of regaining this lost weight will also be minimum because there is increasing in Resting Metabolic Rate. So even if you stop walking you will not gain any weight.

Will running on a treadmill every day help me lose weight?

yes running will help a lot, if u have a jump rope use it, a jump rope is beter than running actulay but do both and it will be great, also lift a little bit of weights, dont worry u wont get buff lol, but u will lose weight faster and have a nicer body as well, if u dont want to lift weights, then do push ups squats, pull ups etc, that will help u a lot. as for what to do when u use the treadmill, start by warming up on it, 5 min at least, then do about 5 min of jogging, and then sprint for 1 min, and jog for 5 and then do that over and over for a good 30 or 50 min, like i seaid if u want to add weights in the workout do them before the running, believe me if u add weights u will lose weight way faster, i kno becasue i lifted weights when i worked out and lost weight fast.

Losing weight on the treadmill?

The BEST way to lose weight is a run/walk or a walk jog thing. It helps a lot more than just constant running.
Walk for 1 minute and jog (or run) for 2. Then walk for 1 minute and jog for 2. Continue doing that for about 45 minutes about 4 times a week.
For the other 3 days a week just go walking.
You can adjust that regime according to how fit you are.

Don't just get something because it's low calorie and don't just eat a salad (which are actually very fattening).
Get something that is high in nutrients but comparatively lean on the carb scale.
Stay away from saturated and trans fats. DO NOT DRINK SODA!
A lot of people think that just because it's a vegg. or a fruit that it's still good for you. Fruits are high in natural sugars which isn't as bad as candy but you really shouldn't eat that much of them. Smoothies are amazing though. Blend in fruit, non-fat (yoplait is great) yogurt and even some bland veggies like carrots (trust me you wont taste them) and that's the best energy drink around.
Veggies aren't always good for you. Potatoes are fattening and don't have a lot of nutrition (the skin is where most of the nutrition is). If you compare a potato to french fries there's mostly no difference.

So make sure you investigate and really understand what you're putting into your body.

Also, look for new recipes. There ARE actually a lot of healthy foods that taste great. Open up your eyes to new and even better foods. Maybe even try indian food (my favorite).

So when eating just remember 3 main rules:
1. Get something that is high in nutrients but comparatively lean on the carb scale. ( but make sure there's a wide variaty of nutrients, you don't want 600% of your daily iron and calcium need but like 50% of you vitamin E needs).

2. Moderation is the key.

3. Eat smaller but more meals. Like, 4 small meals (or "snacks") throughout the day is great because you can feel like your eating a lot so you don't crave, but really you're still eating the same as you would on a diet.

Would walking and jogging for 45 minutes help me lose weight?

I started walking and jogging 2 and a half weeks ago for 45 to an hour a day. I think I have seen improvements in my body. I have lost probably 5 pounds. Is a little but I want to lose more weight. I am kinda overweigth. I walk for 3 minutes then jog for 2 to 3 minutes and then again walk for 3 mins and jog again for 2to3 mins. Is this okay? what else can I add to loose more weight, I try running but is hard. Should I also exercise for 30 more mins, Or my workout routine is fine?
Thanks.

Is running on treadmill enough to lose weight?

The best way to lose weight is to reduce calories in. Calories spent is inefficient, no matter which exercise you choose. It’s basic math.As an example:Bicycling, Stationary. 30 minutes : moderate 210 - 311 caloriesCalories in an egg and cheese sandwich: 340 caloriesI lost over 220 lbs and I did not exercise. I work out now, but for other reasons. Lower your calories, do some moderate exercise, and you will see the weight fall off. Use a diary for your foods, track everything you eat - every single bite that goes into your mouth, and forget what healthcare professionals say about how many calories you “should” eat. Just eat less than what you do now, and you’re set.Good luck!Calories burned in 30 minutes for people of three different weights - Harvard HealthFree Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com
