Can best friends be friends forever?

Friendship is sustained through common set of beliefs, common likes, dislikes, interests, habits, etc.Over the times, if you explore the new areas which previously you were unaware of then you start finding things more interesting, accordingly your likes changes, your thought process also changes, rather i would say improves. With these new set of beliefs, you surround yourself with people of similar interests as that of yours and you enjoy your life in this new world.Now imagine a friend of yours back from school/college who used to be close to you. Has he stepped out to see this new world? If not, Is he open to your new thoughts or do you share good understanding? If not, then he will only be your friend. I believe such friendship lasts long only if one of the person is more accepting to other because there is no scope of changing the other person.Even i think over the time due to lesser common beliefs, you spend hardly any time with that person which builds the gap between two and thus the indifference is created and the existence of that person doesn't bother you much, as a result, the friendship breaks apart.So, there is nothing like best friends forever.Sad indeed.
