Will You Actually Receive A Gift Card

Do you like to receive gifts?

From my family? Honestly? Not really. Because:If I needed something, I would have gotten it for myself. What I really want from my family is free time, but it’s an awkward gift to ask for. “Kids, for Christmas this year, please just leave me alone for 10 consecutive hours.”My wife and I are ultimately paying for the gifts we get anyway. It’s like buying yourself something you didn’t really want. From my students? At Christmas and the last day of school? Yes. My first year as a teacher, I was not expecting any gifts at all. I ended up with about 50 gift cards and a trunk full of other gifts to take home at Christmas, and slightly fewer on the last day of school. Here’s a tip for students: If you’re wondering what to get your teacher, Amazon gift cards are always a winner. Mugs filled with candy are nice, but… and I’m just being honest here… the candy gets eaten by my family and the mugs get thrown away because I have way too many already.

Do you like to receive gift cards as gifts?

It depends on who I'm recieving them from. If it is a close friend I would rather they put a little more thought into it... It truely, to me is the thought that counts. I would rather get something that someone put a little heart in but if they don't know me and are unsure a gift card is nice.

Would you rather receive a gift, gift card, or cash?

A gift is more personal. It shows that the person thought of you, put some thought into what to purchase, bought something they thought you would like, and in most cases, actually present it to you.

A gift card is ok or even cash from someone I don't know well, but if you know me and love me, you should know what to get as far as a gift is concerned, right?

Like, for instance, say.... a teddy bear? ;-)

When will i receive my target e-gift card?

Target egift cards arrive within a few hours after they are purchased. Check your spam folder. If you sent the ecard then contact target if the recipient has yet to receive it. If you are the recipient and it's been more than half a day then contact the sender. I ordered one last christmas and the receiver got the email in 3 hours.

Are you offended when you receive a Gift Card?

Hi Kat ...

I don't think they meant "rude" actually. What they were getting at was that so many times it actually ends up being an exchange of money. I don't mind them and would never think a person rude for getting me one, however, it's sad that we've lost the sparkle of surprise and of really putting thought into a gift for someone. A coworker or stranger is one thing ... but I always try to pick a gift that is special for the person I'm giving it to if they matter to me. Gift receipts come in handy here and I always include one ... but I'd much rather give a gift than a gift card.

It dawned on me a couple of Christmases ago when people in my family were giving each other gift cards for the exact same amount of money?? What is the point in that? You many as well just take your $50.00 and spend it on yourself in the first place. Why go to the trouble of buying a gift card when all your doing is exchanging money?? This was the point of MSN's article. While I have no reason to call a gift card "rude" I would much rather receive a gift that someone spent some time really thinking about any day.

Peace to you ...

I received a 5 dollar gift card to starbucks - is that really cheap?

Actually, it would be much more hurt knowing that my good friend didn't put much thought into the gift. First off, $5 will only get you a large coffee. That's it. Second, you can get those cards at the local convenience store in those racks by the register.

I would drop a small hint by just mentioning the fact that you got a wonderful gift from a co-worker you barely know.

I lost a $200 Walmart Gift Card. I have the receipt. Walmart said there is nothing they can do about it. What can I do?

They told you wrong. It’s not surprising, many cashiers at walmart don’t know their machines well.If you have the receipt the activation code of the gift card is on it. Likely near the top. This code can be manually entered into the register and be spent.I used to have a customer who’d given a walmart card to his daughter in Houston. He’d bring in the number of that card and I’d load it here in Amarillo manually so he could by his daughter gas and help her make ends meet as she attended school.Sometimes a card has been damaged beyond being machine readable. If that number is still legible it can be spent. And you can use a gift card to load another. If you have that number you can get the balance of that card, which hopefully hasn’t been spent, and use it to buy a new card.If they continue to give you grief, you can use that card online at Walmart’s store. But if you have that number and somebody else hasn’t spent it, it’s not gone.

How can I activate a stolen gift card and redeem it?

If the gift card is truly not activated, like someone swiped it off the rack at the store and snuck it out without taking it through the cashier process… it's almost certainly just a dumb, worthless piece of plastic. The activation process conducted by the cashier is what creates the corresponding entries in the database at the payment processor, linking that card number with a stored value amount. Usually the gift card packaging is clearly labeled, “No value until activated by cashier,” so you don't waste your time and effort.I suppose you could take this “stolen” gift card and sneak it back into the store, and hand it to a cashier with some cash or your own credit card, to have it activated properly… but that hardly seems worth the risk over just grabbing a fresh one legitimately. Keeps a tiny bit of excess plastic and cardboard out of the landfill, I suppose.
