How to get customers for a window cleaning business?

How do I get customers for my new window cleaning business? I generally do business's. I do gas stations, restaurants, and stores. What would be the best way to approach them or get them to commit to allowing me to do their window? What would be the best way to talk to them? Just in general how would I get them to allow me to do their business? Should I offer them a free window cleaning for a referral?

Is starting a window cleaning business a good idea?

And you can do it without making streaks? And only making about $15 per store? Alot stores will probably be making their employees do the windows, b/c they still can buy everything, and when down time, make them clean them

Starting window cleaning business tips?

Hi, Matt!
Starting a window cleaning business can be a very good business in these economic times. I know of a guy that makes close to $100K with it.
But, about your questions...since I don't know where you are located, the best thing for you to do is contact your local city or county clerk's office (in the USA-or whatever it might be elsewhere). They can tell you whether you need a license and/or can solicit door to door. Be sure to do this as many towns and cities have ordinances against this or you need a permit. You probably won't need a license for the cleaning, but check.
Personally, I would target shops and small businesses because image and first impressions are important to their livelihood and they are always looking for the best deal and may be more apt to give you a try.
I have a fabulous resource on starting a window cleaning business on my Squidoo lens about starting cleaning businesses. It's from the guy who makes $100K, so he knows what he's talking about! The links are in My Profile.

I am starting my own cleaning business. How do I get customers?

A lot is going to depend on how you're advertising. For instance, if you put a flyer under the windshield wiper of my car, I will make a note of your business, so that I won't use you. I HATE having flyers shoved under my windshield wipers. If you put a flyer or card in my mailbox, I turn it over to the postmaster, because that's a federal offense. I also hate people going door to door.

As it happens, I'm looking for a cleaning service. I had one at my old place, then I moved, and the company doesn't work in my new area. I check the Yellow Pages first. Yes, the phone book. A company has to shell out money to put an ad in the phone book, which means that it's been around for a while. And I first look at the companies with bigger ads, with more information. The ad should say if the company is bonded and insured, for a cleaning business, and it should list which areas the business will go to, and the types of cleaning done (windows? deep? routine? make ready?) to make the best impression on me. I've also looked at some Craigslist ads, and I am interviewing someone on Tuesday.

Oh, by the way...I don't really care if you're Christian or not. I don't think that Christians will do a better job, or a worse job. But I am slightly more likely to go with a business that doesn't need to specify that it's Christian, or Christian owned. I figure that a Christian doesn't want to take my (atheistic) money.

I am just starting a general cleaning business which the turn up was impressive can someone help me what to do I want this busines to grow fast, any ideal or step to take?

Farm one area at a time. By that I mean, develop an advertising flyer for your business and every day, all day, distribute these flyers yourself, to each and every prospective customer, working from your base of operations outward. Saturate the area with your flyers and start over once a month. Every time you get a job, take a few minutes to distribute your flyers to nearby prospects. The reason for working an area geographically is to minimize travel distance and time between jobs. By concentrating on one area at a time, your jobs are more likely to be near each other. After completing each job, call back a couple of days later to check in with the customer as to their satisfaction with the work. If there are any complaints, offer to immediately come back and correct the issue at no charge to the customer. You should be working full time at your business, no matter how much work you have. Any idle time between paying jobs should be spent on promotion, and to start, that means distributing your flyers. These work better than any other low cost promotional method. Then, when you start getting overbooked, begin to raise your prices so that your profits can increase. That will let you hire others to continue your promotional efforts while you do the work. Remember, that if you stop promoting, the business will slow down, so keep it up.Take care, and do the right thing.Tom
