Windows 8 disk space usage vs Windows 7

Windows folder taking up too much space?

Only 35.8GB is free from the actual size 280 GB ?

I think your C drive size is about 60GB and the rest of the actual capacity is divided into another partitions.
If this is correct, then you have to resize your C drive to at least 100GB to avoid any issues.
Because you'll need that amount of size for the windows system, installed programs, paging files, system restore points, windows updates and so on. Windows 7 files could take up to 25GB (Without the System Restore Checkpoints). Don't forget that number will increase with your installed programs and files.

and surely if you're using Windows 7 64-bit, then you'll experience a large size of windows files.

About the "winsxs" folder,
this is the main folder for the windows updates.
Windows use this folder to save the downloaded updates and install it, and you can't clean it all, because it's a system file related.

But you can use Disk cleanup to clean any installed updates backup have been saved under that directory.

Just click on "Start", Then in the search bar type "Disk cleanup",
Open it, then do a clean on C drive, wait for the results,

On the results window,
look for (Service Pack Backup Files), if is it larger than 0KB, tick it and click OK.
the tool will clean every removable backups.
This should decrease the usage a little bit.

Also use CCleaner to clean your computer, and uninstall any unwanted program.

Which uses more ram, Windows 10 or 7?

Some of the previous answers were inaccurate.Win7 requires:1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)(source: https://support.microsoft.com/en...)Win10 requires: New device: 2 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 64-bitUpdate: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit (source: Windows 10 Specifications & System Requirements)In terms of what they use (as opposed to require), Win10 has the best memory optimization of any Windows to date. (With few exceptions — such as Vista — each Windows version has become better at memory management than the previous.) Win10 will generally make the most of however much RAM you can feed it, given that you at least meet the minimums, as stated above.

Which OS takes up more space in a hard disk, Windows 8 or Windows 10?

Since Windows 8 was a jump of features from Windows 7, it was obvious that Windows 8 will cover more of the disk space, but the argument is that even Windows 10 has many features. Well, time was taken to create and specifically to make Windows 10 less space and resource consuming (they terribly failed at the resources) and they did slim it down with more features. So conclusion: Windows 8 (and 8.1) consumes more space than Windows 10.

Does Windows 10 consume more drive space than Windows 8?

Not especially more. According to the Storage app, I have 10.8 gigs of system files (similar to 8.1 and 7, both of them above 10 gigs), 1.43 gigs of pagefiles (automatically chosen: they will soon need to expand though on my usage), 1.17 gigs of hibernation files (which I don't think are used for THAT purpose, so...) and disabled System Restore.I have like 18.9 gigs of apps and games whose size can be calculated. Quite a bit and nothing really is from the system. A few .NET Frameworks which I'm not sure whether they're related to development or runtimes cost me roughly 350 megs. The Store is 34 megs. Solitaire Collection stands at 29.8 megs. Others are even less. Consider 500 megs for built-in apps as an overestimate.I have plenty of temp. files, though I don't know why my 25 gigs of downloads are considered by both Windows on the desktop and Windows Phone 8.1 on my Lumia to be in this category. Lol.Together with other stuff of mine and almost 30 gigs used by other users on my laptop, the grand total (system+user) is roughly 10 times a pre-copied (not yet configured) system. That is, I use 127 gigs. My C drive has 152 total so I'm still alright. This data is similar to Windows 7 64-bit and 8.1 32-bit. (I run 10 32-bit). So don't expect any significant difference. On my 32-bit Windows 7 dual-boot 5.20 gigs are system files according to the same Storage applet. 8.93 gigs are used total on that drive.

Why do I lose space on C drive every time I perform a windows update?

There is folder called "WinSxS" that stores the Windows Updates files. You might want to check the size of that folder and then compare it in relation with total disk space. You cannot delete the contents of WinSxS because its more of like Warehouse , everytime you do updates , files are stored there. Right now  , my WinSxS folder is around 6 GB (Windows 8)Try using software called TreeSize. It will help you narrow down on whats taking up space. Try posting the screenshot.

What percent of CPU, Memory, and Disk usage is normal for a Windows 8 PC while idling?

So my computer is going extremely slow due to my CPU usage shooting up to 90+% for a reason unknown. While looking through my Task Manager, I found a process called Service Host: Local System (Network Restricted) (8) and its taking really high amounts of CPU at times, and then going back down (which is why I'm able to type this).

So my question is for people who have Windows 8 is what % are your CPU, Memory, and Disk usages at while idling your computer meaning doing nothing (with the exception of your web browser and Task Manager of course)? Now that my computer has cooled off, I'm at:

3% CPU 34% Memory and 0% Disk.

Right now I'm not worried about the CPU or the Disk, but is it normal to have so much memory usage with just Chrome and Task Manager Opened? Also is Service Host: Local System (Network Restricted) suppose to use so much memory?

Thanks in advance.

Is Windows 10 lighter on resources than Windows 7?

I suspect that depends on the resource and the current driver version. If you are running a Windows 7 driver for a device on Windows 10 it will be a lot more CPU intensive than running an optimized driver.Frankly the quality of drivers is one of the huge reasons Windows systems have issues. That said, for the most part I've seen much better overall performance on three of the four machines I have upgraded. One of them I have a nagging issue but I am not sure if it is me or just something Windows 10 doesn't like.
