Will my recovery partition be lost when I factory reset my Windows 8 PC?

No nothing will happen to it.Resetting does not delete the partitions. It only deletes data in case you have opted for it.Since you are running Windows 8 or above you have two options to reset:Refresh: It will uninstall all the programs installed by user. It will make your system like it was on day one. Your system will have all basic programs and drivers like it had on first boot. No user files are affected.Reset: This is next level of Refresh, here windows is uninstalled and installed back again. This is pure factory reset option. This can delete all your files on the HDD if you opted for it.Here are the detailed steps to Reset:Go to Settings in charms bar or type change pc settings after pressing windows button and click Change PC settings.Click General - on right side click on Get Started button for Remove everything and reinstall windows. In windows 8.1 & above this option is there in Update & recovery/ Update & Security-Recovery instead of General.Click Next, if your PC has more than one drive it will ask this: Select the drives which you want to remove.- Only the drive where Windows is installed : Only remove the files in the drive where Windows is installed.- All drives : Remove all files in the drives.Select Only the Drive where Windows is installed. If you want to save your data on other drivesNext , Select the proper options to clean your drive such as Just remove my files/ Fully clean the drive. Finally click on Reset to start the process.Personally i find refresh more helpful as it cleans your PC without affecting any user files and takes less time than reset.[1] Article with images to help with Resetting[2] Resetting windows 10Goodluck!!!Footnotes[1] Windows 8 - How to restore the system to factory default settings?[2] How to Reset Your Windows 10 PC

If I install windows 8 from 7, will I lose all of my files like pics, music, vid, etc, and programs?

You can run an in-place upgrade like with Vista and 7 and your files and settings will be retained.

Will I lose data on my computer if I update to Windows 10?

A Windows install can be done one of two ways: clean or upgrade. If you have a computer running Windows 7 or Windows 8 and you start Windows 10 setup it will upgrade your installation to Windows 10 with your programs, settings, and data intact. If instead, you start the computer directly from a DVD or USB you will be asked to do a clean install - and where to put it. If you put it on your existing hard drive where Windows 7/8 already is, you will likely lose your data.If you have a blank hard drive (or partition but let’s keep it simple) you can choose that instead. Windows 10 will install there and leave the other drive, the one with your data, intact. Intact but largely inaccessible to a novice because that other drive still contains Windows 7/8. When you first start the computer it will ask which OS to run.So that's three options. Choice number 1 is the simplest, most popular, and probably what you asked about. It's always possible to lose data during the upgrade but it's very unlikely. It's the most tested scenario in Microsoft’s labs and any loss of data is a ship stopping bug. Serious stuff, but that testing is done so that you can trust the process in real life. Still, make a backup. No other software company tests the upgrade scenario more thoroughly than Microsoft.

How do I recover lost contacts on a Windows phone?

If you are running Windows Phone 8.1 on a device with expandable storage via an SD card, you may want to grab this new system app from Microsoft. The release is titled 'contacts+message backup' and the tiny app only installs to the Settings on your Windows Phone (it will not be listed in your apps). Contacts+message will "backup of all your contacts (in VCF format) and messages (SMS & MMS including attachments) to SD card (in XML format) for later restore to same or another Windows Phone."The information is saved to in a 'backup+restore' folder on the SD card.If this all sounds vaguely familiar, it is because we recently ran a story on the Xolo WIN Q1000 Windows Phone that had this same app built in. At the time, we implied how it would be useful for all Windows Phone users to have this ability, and many of you agreed in the article comments. Evidently, someone at Microsoft was listening because you can now download the <1 MB app to your Windows Phone 8.1 device to get the same function.Oh and what happens if you install this to say a Lumia Icon (aka a phone with no SD card option)? Nothing much. The system app will appear in Settings, but (a) it will note no SD card was found and (b) you cannot uninstall it. Sure, it will not harm your phone, but it creates an unnecessary listing in your settings. So, heed that warning before installing!Anyway, grab the app and enjoy backing up your contacts and messages locally on your Windows Phone and save that data.

I stress, unless you want to get rid of all of your important documents, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend backing up your documents (i.e. putting them on a flash drive or disk, or backing them up to a secure location. Microsoft has SkyDrive, which will allow up to 5 Gig of information stored for free).

I hope that helps.

How do I recover files after a Windows system recovery?

What is your Windows version? For Windows 8, you can either Refresh your PC or Reset your PC.Refresh your PC keeps your files and personalized settings but resets PC settings to default. Applications not from Windows Store will be uninstalled and removed.Reset your PC will perform a complete Windows reinstall from scratch and remove all previous data that doesn't come with this PC.For Window 10, you can Reset this PC. But there are two way to do this just like Windows 8. You can choose whether you would like to keep your personal data or to remove everything. In both Windows 8 and 10, the key part is the files removing section: did you choose to just remove the files , or remove the files and clean the drive? If you wiped your drive clean, you will not get your files back! Otherwise, you can, with the help of data recovery software.TL;DR version: if you did not specifically choose to completely clean your drive, you can recover your files from system recovery. How do you remember if you have cleaned your drive or not? Easy, the clean process is very long, takes hours. If your system recovery was very quick, then your drive is not cleaned. It was formatted at best.I recommend H Data Recovery Software. It is able to recover lost data from lost partitions, formatted drives, accidental deletion, etc. When you have downloaded the software, launch and select the formatted drive recovery option. Choose a drive and start the recovery. Then you should see all the lost files. Click next to recover files you wish to restore. Done!

Why is windows 8.1 so gay?

I been trying to use for 2 months and it is so difficult to do anything. 2-3 times as many clicks to do something. it seems to be one way and that's it. setting are all over the place with different(stupid) names. internet alaways opens under explorer, oops, FILEexplorer. common dialog boxes for saving a file is retarded. can't just click through, need to scroll in 2 part window. files can't be where I want them they need to be sorted somehow; rename a file and double click it and "TA DA!" it's gone. now I have to go looking for it because it's sorted immediately. sort by "status" is listed twice under "choose columns." click the personalize button and I can change the wallpaper, woopty do! O, I can change the color of my top window. "Search" for folder sends me to the net, for a file I can choose what "KIND". What size is it? HUGE, or GIGANTIC. defender runs every time i'm idle, system fans a cranking. touch a button to shut it up and it restarts after a few minutes. this is power efficient? it's not any faster than XP. nor does it boot any faster than XP. but then, on XP it wasn't starting 50 processes. Microsoft doesn't seem to know if they want to call it a process or a task, a program or a app. isn't APP a name that APPLE created? Who designed this crap? why chage something if there is nothing wrong with it. Xp was the longest running system because it worked. It's amazing how Microst got it just right {XP} and then just threw it all away for some stupid social media sht
