With These Aspects Is My Moon Considered Afflicted

Is a conjunction considered a hard or soft aspect?

I understand that two planets in conjunct would indicate a blending of energies... But, is this aspect neutral? For example, would Sun conjunct Saturn in a natal chart be considered equally positive and negative?

If this is not the case, how would you determine whether a conjunction has a beneficial or harmonious effect or a negative, challenging effect?

How do i know if my ascendant is afflicted?

Affliction in astrology generally refers to an unfavorably placed aspect involving Squares, oppositions, quincunxs, semi-squares etc. In such cases, the energy exchange between 2 planets are not smooth-flowing and create a certain amount of stress and tension within the individual.

Your Ascendant is considered 'afflicted' when it is placed in an unfavorable aspect (see above: squares & opposiitons esp) with other major planets in your chart such as the Sun, Moon, mercury, Mars, Venus, Saturn.

The good news is that since the Ascendant is usually not an accurate baromenter of your core essence and individuality (many people have vastly different Ascendants as compared to their Sun signs), the negative impact is more likely to involve how you appear to send out contradictory vibes regarding your actions and who you are as an individual.

What is the definition of "afflected Moon" in Western Astrology?

An afflicted moon simply means that your moon has hard aspects to it which I call Life Lessons. These aspects are the conjunction (intense concentrated energy), the square (a personal discontent), and the opposition (relationship issues). The more hard aspects, the more "afflicted" the planet is considered to be.

I like to look at the hard aspects as something that we need to overcome. Something that we are to work on in this lifetime. Karmic Lessons that need be to "passed."

And the easy aspects are the sextile (causes an excitation between the two planets forming the aspect) and the trine (which is a beautiful flowing energy between the two planets forming the aspect). Each planet often has multiple aspects and an "easy aspect" can help soften the tough energy for the hard aspects. I call the easy aspects Karmic Rewards for something done well in a previous lifetime. And the hard aspects are just things we need to work on, Life Lessons. Just like passing a class in school.

So every time you read the word "afflicted" just know it is called that because it has some hard aspects that are "hitting" your moon.

Took me ages to figure that out! lol

Hope this is helpful and good luck and bless you too.

EDIT: There are some conjunctions (when planets are in the same degree or very close to the same desgree) in the easy aspect category, like when the Moon and Venus are conjunct. The Moon is our emotions and Venus is how we love, so when these two planets are conjunct it is usually a calm and loving energy. Sun conjunct Mercury gives one good communication abilities. And Sun conjunct Venus is also an easy conjunction good which gives one a kind and caring nature. But most of the conjunctions are hard aspects. Just didn't want to confuse you! I wish you well.

How do you know if a planet is 'afflicted'?

In Western astrology, an affliction is an accidental debility.Just check the possible accidental debilities:Being combust (between 18' and 8°30' away from the Sun), under the Sun's beams (between 8°30' and 17° away from the Sun), or opposed the Sun (less than 8° distant);Being retrograde (moving "backwards") or stationary (not moving);Being slow (considerably slower, in relation to its own mean speed. This is not a debility for Saturn); In a bad house (6th, 8th, and 12th houses) or in close aspect to its rulers; In the house opposed to its joy (The joys of the planet: Mercury, 1st house; Moon, the 3rd; Venus, the 5th; Sun, the 9th; Mars, the 6th; Jupiter, the 11th; Saturn, the 12th. So, Mercury is debilitated in the seventh, etc);Closely opposed any other planet, or in aspect or conjunction to a debilitated planet (a planet in its own detriment or fall) - this is only important if it's less than 5 degrees apart;Being conjunct (less than 2 degrees) a bad fixed star (Algol, Antares, Vindemiatrix, Bellatrix, etc);Being conjunct the South Node; These are the most relevant, the ones I can think of without having to look any book.
