With Walmart Failing Where Will Poor People Shop

Why do poor people shop at walmart?

I am not poor and I love walmart but I swear there is so much white trash in there, you can be poor and still take care of yourself why do all of the people who coose not to always end up in walmart and not target or the dollar store why just walmart?

Is it true that people who shop at Walmart are poor in the US?

Question: Is it true that people who shop at Walmart are poor in the US?IMHO the word poor may not be the right word to use in your question. I think most Walmart shoppers are budget driven because of income and/or family size. Now granted, the convenience of being able to find just about everything I need or want in one store is great. However I’m a single parent with sole custody of my two children who are now adults and doing very well on their own. When I was raising them my salary of USD $69,700ish provided everything they needed and some of what they wanted. While my salary easily qualifies as middle class here in the United States it doesn’t go very far when three people, a cat and a hamster are living off that one income. I had to borrow from my 401K to get my daughter her fancy shiny new Clarinet (which I call her music stick) for high school music class and band but it was worth the expense as she now holds a masters degree in music education. :) OMG don’t get me started on the high cost of her braces!! :(Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is I had to budget very carefully especially for big ongoing expenses such as clothing and food. Food was a big expense because my son will eat anything that doesn’t walk away from him! :DIt is ironic that I went to Walmart earlier today before writing this answer and while standing in line to pay for my stuff I overheard the cashier and the customer ahead of me talking about the pile of toys the customer was buying for her kids. I kinda joined in the conversation by saying, my kids are grown and out doing their own thing so now I can finally spend money on myself! :)Shopping at Walmart did not, by itself, make it easier to provide for my family but was a major contributing factor when combined with other cost saving options. So, yes, I shopped at Walmart when I was raising my kids not because I was poor per se but simply so I could get the most bang for the buck.

Why are people who shop at Walmart so strange?

The answer lies in both statistics and culture.Statistics: there are only a few places in the United States that are more than twenty miles away from a Walmart store. From supercenters with optical departments and gas stations to Neighborhood Markets with fresh produce in a convenience store, our brick-and- mortar stores have penetrated almost every possible market. Therefore the “sample size” of Walmart customers is mind- bending, which leads to a larger number of outliers who stand out as notable. On the cultural front, Walmart stores are public places that are often open all day and night. This provides a built-in audience for those with exhibition in mind. It's also a judgement-free environment for whatever a customer happens to be wearing when they make a decision to shop at Walmart. A nearby large church hosts a dance school? A store is near a sports venue? Why change your clothes to pick up a gallon of milk or a quart of motor oil?

Why do all poor people shop at walmart?

Ah, a question born of ignorance. How lovely.

Why do so many weird people shop at Walmart?

Well, that puts me in my place. But seriously, I'd venture to say there are two reasons. Wal-Mart is inexpensive, and it's open till all hours. These things are attractive to the homeless. By definition they're poor, have no place to bathe or wash their clothes and often are mentally ill. Wal-Mart ,they feel, doesn't reject them as a more upscale store might. If they ve collected bottles they can turn them in for cash, and make some small purchase. It has a bathroom, and unless they pester people they can clean up a bit. Plus, they can be out of bad weather for a while. Also, the more canny ones know where the trash is,and will look for usable discarded food. It's very sad that some people choose to live like this where there are programs to assist them. But it's their life. Imagine for a moment if it was yours.

Where do poor people shop?

With a California welfare Mastercard, anywhere they want. The former middle class are the ones going to dollar stores, garage sales and WalMart, today.

Will Walmart ever fail?

I think they probably will be around for years to come in one form or another. People keep shopping there in droves even though they talk them down. Walmart started out as a good concept. They gave the people what they wanted at a good price, by selling in large volume. Since the 80’s they have become bullies. They have driven out local businesses, so in many places the choices are very limited. I have live a few places where you could shop at Walmart 5 miles away or drive 20–40 miles to shop somewhere else. I think they are really getting hit hard by people buying online more and more. I believe that there are few people who actually want to shop at Walmart anymore. They shop there because there are no reasonable options, so as people get other options, Walmart loose their grip and fail.

Why do people shop at Walmart for clothes?

Though I buy most of my clothes online, I've bought clothes at Wal-Mart in the past when:I'm there to get something else anyway and I am low on essentials - socks, undergarments, thermals, beanies, layering T-shirts, etc.I'm there to shop for a last-minute trip where the weather is different, so there's no time to go to a dedicated clothing store - shorts, sandals, graphic t-shirts, swimming trunks, etc.I'm there with someone else who has a list, so I have nothing else to do. But this is rare. I'll usually be browsing hardware or electronics instead.I've been tempted on occasion when a brand I've used before, like Wrangler or Levi's, is on discount, but closer inspection would often reveal a different type of fabric or differences in stitching/rivets from what I'm used to from that brand. So I stick to getting them online. In general I've found their price-quality ratio to be quite good if you compare regular-priced clothing there versus regular-priced clothing elsewhere. The store layout also has the section ideally located for impulse shopping, and the section itself includes options in every category you can imagine. So I'm not at all surprised that people buy there, especially if they are there for something else anyway. Many people I know, especially those with kids, live busy lives and prefer to spend time on activities other than dedicated trips to men's, women's and kids' clothing stores.

Should I feel guilty for shopping at Walmart?

Yes, you should feel guilty for shopping at Walmart but on the other hand, you have very little choice and Walmart is really just the poster child of the third world slave labor market. No matter where you shop, you will find nothing on any shelf but third world slave labor products, so your only choice is to buy nothing at all. Maybe that is what we should be doing and maybe what we all should really be feeling guilty about is that we have not yet burned Walmart down.
