Women Earning More Money Than Men

Why men make more money than women?

@ jupiteress: First I would like to address the "None of what I have written is sexist." It was funny you said that. You don't have to be worried; I completely understood that your idea isn't sexist so when I came to that line I was baffled, I actually laughed :)
And yes what you are talking about with the man having power over women is very true. I must say though that we do compete against other males as well as females. We however ostracized females, putting them at a disadvantageous state for when they finally gained equality. Because of this we evolved men to become stronger physically and mentally. This is why some blacks are so good at sports because (based off my hypothesis) they were still using brute force to catch their prey instead of creating devices like their other human counterparts. ((Not saying they're primitive in fact quite the opposite, in the rest of the world humans were creating devices to fight for more trivial things like wealth and power over other humans.))

Why do women earn less than men?

Perhaps these articles will give you some insight.

Why men earn more than women?

We pay men more so we can spend our money and theirs.

Do men get paid more than women?

Actually, women working full time -- not part-time, not on maternity leave, not as consultants -- still earn only 77 cents to a full-time working man's dollar. That's an enormous gap, and it has been stalled in place for more than a decade. It's not closing on its own. It affects women at every economic level, from waitresses to lawyers, from cashiers to CEOs.

Precisely because our nation believes so firmly in fairness and personal responsibility, many Americans assume that our workplaces do offer equal opportunities for all. And so, for the last 40 years, most theories about the wage gap have blamed women for underearning. Obviously, the older theory has had to be tossed out: Women earn as many degrees, have roughly as many years on the job, work as hard, and need money just as much as men do. So why do women still get paid less?

Here's the real reason women get paid an enormous percentage less than men: because they're women. In other words, because of sex discrimination.

Sex discrimination isn't necessarily intentional; much of it happens through mindless bias and careless stereotyping. But however it happens, it's unfair, illegal, and widespread.

Take a look at sex discrimination cases, never before collected, which you can now find at www.wageproject.org. You'll be shocked if you look at how much employers have to pay out each year in sex discrimination cases, through awards or settlements -- not 10 or 20 years ago, but in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. These cases show how deeply entrenched discrimination is in every region of the country and every sector of the economy.

How much money do men and women volleyball players earn?

The international governing body for volleyball is the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). The main professional volleyball governing body in the United States is the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), based in Los Angeles, California. You may also want to train for a spot on the U.S. Olympic volleyball team. Top male volleyball players have career earnings of over $3 million while top female players have career earnings over $750,000. There are about 300-400 professional volleyball players in the United States, some earning in excess of $300,000 per year, not including income from endorsements.

I stole this directly from the source. Not much money in the professional volleyball world cause there just isn't a huge fan base ( i would TOTALLYYY watch). It's a shame.

And have you seen any sponsership deals for pros? I haven't...the only ones I would think would get any would be misty may and kerri walsh, and they're professional BEACH players.

Men earn more, but women spend more. How is this possible?

It's possible, at least in the U.S. because overall there is a transfer of wealth from men to women, some of this involuntary and some of it voluntary.

Wealth is transferred from men to women through our tax system, entitlement systems and related policies. Within families it's very common for the male to earn more but voluntarily give earning to his wife to spend. Because men overall earn more, they are on average taxed more, while at the same time receive less entitlement income and services than women. Social security is an example of a government program in which women get more out of it compared to what they put into it than men. In other words, men are subsidizing women's social security payments.

The important thing to realize in this is that pre-tax earnings (which is what the wage gap is measuring) and the disposable income one has to spend are not necessarily the same thing, something many feminists fail to recognize in their wage gap arguments. Just because women on average earn 77% of what men earn, it doesn't mean they only have 77% as much to spend. As you said, overall women spend more than men.

Again, both voluntary and involuntary transfer of wealth methods mean that what men and women earn isn't necessarily what they have to spend.

Why do women get paid less then men?

The glass ceiling has actually been shattered in many professions. Women have come a long way since 1960s when they had to fight to be respected as people capable of doing most jobs as well as a man. What many studies show is that most women who do not earn as much as men also do not choose to work in the same professions as men. There are many jobs that women do not choose to do, and if a few women choose to do these jobs, many of them do not want to be in a supervisory position.

If women were actually paid less money for the same job as men are, then no one would ever hire a man to do that job. Here's another thing to consider. Women typically want to date and marry men who earn more money than they do, so being financially successful can hinder a woman's chances of getting married and having children which is a primordial drive. The biological imperative of gender may compel some women to choose to earn less than a man to enhance her chances of pairing up with a man and having children.

Why do women still get paid less than men?

I understand why they used to be paid less. Women would usualy have a husband to earn the main wage and any work a woman did was just pocket change.etc.

But now there are alot more single women supporting familys and i dont see why this hasnt been changed. Why are women still being paid less for doing the same job?
