1) first convert 5 feet 5 inches into all inches. which would be 5*12= 60 +5 = 65 inches. Then find the conversion from centimeters to inches. 1 inch is about 2.54 centimeters. The multiply your inches by the ratio.
2.54*65

2) im guessing customary system is inches, so the same thing, but backwards

3) 200 lb in one ton, 200*3=600, find converstion from pounds to kg

4) 50 cm - first convert to inches, then remember there are 12 inches in a foot

5) i dont know what a pond is

6) convert 1 cup to milliliters, then look at the flow chart of all litres. i think its kilo, deci, litre, centi, milli, but go look it up, and it will tell you the ratio

NUMBER 1) Jim wants to buy his cousin a guitar as a birthday gift, but the guitar cost $625. Jim decides to wait until the guitar is on sale. Luckily, the store has a sale the following week, and Jim sees that the guitar then cost $400. Unfortunately, that is still too expensive. The following week, he returns to the store and finds the guitar priced at $256. Jim decides to wait one more week. The next wek, Jim sees that the guitar has been reduced again, at the same rate that it was reduced in each of the previous weeks. Jim buys the guitar. How much does he pay for it?

NUMBER 2) Mr. Kerr is a math teacher. One day, he asked his students to guess the ages of his three dogs. He said,

"I have had each dog for at least 2 years. If you multiply their ages, you get 36. If you add their ages, you get an odd number. The final clue is the oldest dog was a gift from my mother, and the youngest dog was a gift from my wife."

Math help. Word problem?

Speed of the current (x):
(150/[55 -x]) + (150/[55 + x]) = 5.5
(8,250 + 150x + 8,250 - 150x)/(3,025 - x²) = 5.5
16,500 = 16,637.5 - 5.5x²
3,000 = 3,025 - x²
x² = 25
x = 5

Answer: 5 meters per minute is the speed of the current.

Proof (round trip is 5.5 minutes):
= (150 m/[55 - 5 m per min]) + (150 m/[55 + 5 per min])
= 150/50 minutes + 150/60 minutes
= 3 minutes + 5/2 minutes
= 6/2 minutes + 5/2 minutes
= 11/2 minutes or 5.5 minutes

Where can I find help with word problems in math?

Hello, I was a Maths faculty for competitive exams. I have come across many students who find word problems difficult. If you are one of them, then please do not worry because you are not alone. Let us understand first why we find Maths word problems difficult.We focus on steps and calculations with perfection but in that process, approach towards the problem gets ignored. See the following example.If I ask you, what is LCM of 45, 55, 65, you will tell me within few seconds. If I ask you another question, what is least 4 digit number, within one second you will answer me and you will look at me with surprise that why am I asking you such basic questions.Now if I ask you which is the least 4 digit number that is divisible by 45, 55, 65 ? Now you get stuck. Here also you need to use the concept of LCM only and use the fact the least 4 digit number is 1000. If you follow these two concepts, only then you will be able to solve this example. But we are so engrossed in steps of LCM, that we ignore the core meaning and implication of LCM.Many competitive exams taste your concepts and hence solving word problems is very important.What we can do is, when we read a problem, first just read and understand the given data. Then think, what other entities we can find using this given data. And then go to the last line of problem where actual question is mentioned. When you practice in this manner, gradually you will start reading examiner’s mind. Why he has asked this question? What skill he wants to check?That way your brain will start understanding the approach as soon as you start reading a problem and then whole problem is clear in your mind till you reach the last line.If you need any additional help, you can watch my videos. Out of passion of teaching, I have launched my channel which is absolutely free.I have covered all basics first to help fast calculations orally without calculator. In every chapter, I first explain all fundamentals and then also the shortcut methods useful of competitive exams. But my emphasis is always on concept based method. Just learning the shortcut without understanding concept, is meaningless.Till now I have uploaded 42 videos and I am going to upload many more gradually. Just click below and start watching anytime.Maths In Minutes with Priya best wishes for exam.

Math Help Word Problem- Algebra 1?

You are a crane operator using a crane with a 210 ft boom. You lift a load so that the load is directly in front of you. You estimate that the angle between the boom and the line between you and the load is 35 degree. About how far are you from the load?

8th grade math help...word problem?

It is 545 miles to Louisville
Their distance from Louisville is 545 at t = 0 and decreases by 55 miles for each hour that they travel

So the distance, D, from Louisville is
D = 545 - 55t

For part b, you want to use the same relationship, but express it in terms of t. We know that they are within 95 miles of Louisville, so we can write
D < 95

Substituting in the expression from part a we have

545 - 55t < 95

Now just solve for t
545 - 95 < 55t
450 < 55t
8.181818... < t
or
t > 8.181818... hours

So if they have traveled more than about 8.2 hours, they are within 95 miles of Louisville

Make sense?

Math Word Problem Help! function?

Till 19 hours left for answering no one has calculated the relation between volume and thickness to be coated:

*****In fact, I was busy calculating the x for your another cubic equation (0.1=8x^3.....) but that actually was an offshoot of this question you wanted to solve exactly.

Friend that equation is wrong (you gave there +28 x^2 term but it actually should have been - 28 x^2 )

Formula:

Let us sit at the 3-D center of the room with 3x2 (x,y) area and 2' height ractangular geometry. From that centre, as origin, its dimensions to pair of opposit planes would be (1', 1.5' and 1' respectively). Therefore its volume

(V)room without coating = 2(1)* 2(1.5)* 2(1) = 12 ft^3

if x is the thickness of coating then the left over volume of room after coating would be:
(V)room with coating = 2[1-x] 2[1.5-x] 2[1-x]

Therefore (v)coating = Vc = 12 - 8(1-x^2)(1.5-x) ---(1) this is the sought relationship

now given 0.1 = 12 - 8(1-x^2)(1.5-x) simplifying

0.1 = 12 - 4 [(1+x^2-2x) (3 - 2x)]
0.1 = 12 - 4 [3+3x^2 - 6x - 2x - 2x^3 + 4x^2]
0.1 = 12 - 4 [3+7x^2 - 8x - 2x^3]
0.1 = 12 - [12+28x^2 - 32x - 8x^3]

8x^3 -28x^2 + 32x =0.1 ----- (2)

This (2) is a very difficult one to get direct exact solution and I could approximate its solution to

x = 0.0031331991 (with remainder - 0.00022157)

you wanted upto 4-decimal places.

Above (2) 80x^3 -280 x^2 + 320x -1=0
80x^3 - 40[7 x^2 - 8x] -1=0

[80x^3 -80] - 40 [7 x^2 - 8x+ 1] -1 +120 =0 add & subtract 120

[80x^3 -80] - 40 [(x-1)(7 x-1)] +119 =0
80 [x^3 -1] - 40 [(x-1)(7 x-1)] +119 =0

80 [(x -1)(x^2+x+1)] - 40 [(x-1)(7 x-1)] +119 =0

40 (x-1) [2x^2+2x+2 - 7x+1] +119=0
40 (x-1) [2x^2 - 5x+3] +119=0

40 (x-1) [2x^2 - 2x-3x+3] +119=0
40 (x-1) [(2x-3)(x-1)] +119=0

40 (x-1)^2 (2x-3) +119=0

** Pls note that feet (FPS system has spoiled the beauty of exact solution) had it been in MKS system x=1mm = 0.001 would been much easier for students. It is deceptive and suits contractors so that they can easily befool owners by conversion of units into odd one's.

Good to have tried - cat in a box type solution.

Math help, please, trig. and words problems!!!!!!!!?

1. solve: 2(sin^2)x - 3cos x = 3

sin^2 x = 1 - cos^2 x

substitute

2(1-cos^2 x) - 3cosx =3
2 - 2cos^2 x - 3cosx = 3
- 2cos^2 x - 3cosx = 3 -2
- 2cos^2 x - 3cosx = 1
- 2cos^2 x - 3cosx - 1 = 0
2cos^2 x + 3cosx + 1 = 0

let y = cos x
2y^2 + 3y + 1 = 0
(2y +1)(y + 1)= 0
y = -1/2
y = -1

cosx = -1/2
x = -pi/6

cos x = -1
x = pi

2. a rectangular garden that has an area of 100 ft^2 is bounded on 3 sides by a brick wall costing $50 per foot and on the fourth side by a fence costing only $20 per foot, express the cost of the garden's enclosure in terms of the single variable x, where x is the length of the fence side.

A = 100 = xy
C = 50(2x) + 50y + 20y
C = 100x + 70y
C = 100x + 70(100/x)
