Working Out With A New Tattoo

Working out after getting a new tattoo?

I'm getting a new tattoo on my thigh soon and I started going to the gym on weekends. I've read that if you are going to work out with a new tattoo you should wear loose fitting clothes to prevent rubbing but I don't own any. My usual gym outfit is tight long sleeve top and matching bottoms. Could I still wear my typical outfit if I wrap my tattoo with saran wrap? I don't know if this is a good idea or not but it makes sense in my head. Should I just stay away from the gym until it's healed?

Question about Working Out with a New Tattoo.....?

i got my upper left and right arms done and i was told not to lift weights for 2 weeks ( average healing time of tattoos...maybe lol)

you would be best off waiting until the tattoo has healed 100% so no scabs or dry skin is left, just incase u crack the skin or ink while your lifting, you could probably just stick to light cardio to keep your body pumping and do other body workouts, besides sometimes its good to give your muscles a long break, it can really improve the way you work out, you may find!

Sweating, working out, with a new tattoo?? Bad?

well.. it can. are you applying a&d ointment on it? you sould apply a thin layer so that it does not dry out but not too much that you are sufficating it.
here is the thing, your skin is like your 3rd kidney, and the makeup of your sweat is very close to the makeup of your urine. so there are a lot of things in it that your body is flushing out. if you have an open wound (which a tattoo is) you can make it raw and irritated if it constantly gets wet and you are moving the skin that is trying to heal. you may loose some color, and you may have scar tissue form. if i where you, i would give it 10 days to heal. (most wound close up in 10 days) and then you can resume your working out.

Can I work out with a new tattoo on my ankle?

I got a tattoo a little over a week ago (2/19/11) that whinds from the top of my foot up around my ankle. I usually go to the gym 5 times a week but have been holding off because I'm worried the rubbing from my gym shoes and socks will damage the tattoo. However, I am going insane not being able to go to the gym. I do a lot of cardio (running, etc.) and am wondering if working out will damage my new tattoo (still peeling) and if yes, how long should I wait before returning to my work out routine without risking damage to my tattoo.

When can I work out after getting a tattoo?

I’d wait a solid week, depending on the intensity of tattoo.Generally, you should till the tattoo scabs fall off. This means it has healed properly and the skin won’t tear.

Sweating with a new tattoo?

From my experience with tattoos, you should be good after about 4 hours. Just make sure to give it plenty of air (if you are able to) during your work out, and clean it as you normally would right after. Depending on where and/or how big you got it, the worst you may still experience would be some tenderness in the skin, but that should be it.

Remember, if it starts to feel REALLY off, or if it starts to ooze puss or anything like that, get to a doctor right away to stave off infection.

(BTW, a good ink shop would have given you this information before you left. At the very least they'd be able to answer these questions for you if you asked kindly.)

How can I best protect my new tattoo while tanning and working out ?

My husband and I got tattoos because he is deploying very soon. I play softball and I tan on a regular basis, but I want to take care if my tattoo as best I can. I know that UV rays (especially from a tan bed) can fade and damage a tattoo. Would covering the tattoo very well help, along with a strong sun screen later on? I'm also worried about sweating. I plan on laying off during soft ball practice and not tanning for a bit.

How long will a new tattoo be sore for?

Depending on who you got it from. And the size and area you have it put on. And the after care. 3 days. If you get it in a back room in someones house you hardly know. About 2 weeks. Rare occasion but talent is out there shop prices are rediculous and a few guys out there will hook you up for a quarter of the price. Just do your research. Some tattoos look nice when they are done but in reality they butchered you. Or holidays. Or all the true imperfections show after you take a good look at it. I put it like this if you have to put some leather in your mouth to bite on from pain and you have a trail of blood dripping from where he is working. Get the hell out of there

Can I exercise after getting a new tattoo?

some artists are fans of the LITHA method (leave it the h*** alone) but it doesn't work for all people and it's not always healthiest for the skin.

exercise is fine, as long as you're not breaking open the scabs (like swinging your arms or rubbing across a mat for crunches) and you're not allowing the equipment to rub against the tattoo (not just because it would disrupt the scabbing/healing skin, but also because of the risk of bacteria transfer into the open skin)

Personally, I recommend my clients DO use lotion on their tattoo, but nothing else except daily washing to keep the skin clean. A non-scented, no frills, no addititives, plain white lotion. you don't want the skin so dry just moving or wearing cloths breaks the scab open, but you don't want it so wet that it sogs up the scab and blocks air from getting to the skin.
