I’m a 28-year-old, Puerto Rican male from NYC, with tattoos, undiagnosed anxiety & I have to live in a homeless shelter. How can I start my acting career with no experience or knowledge? What tips & suggestions do you have for my situation?
You are not going to like this. You are in no position to act. Acting costs a LOT of money.I am a lawyer and have spent enough money to pay off a house in my acting career. First lessons cost money, then workshops, then head shots, and agents cost money, then you have to do about ten years of unpaid work getting experience and end up spending your own money on auditions, and rehearsals.You have to have a car to get to sets, you need petrol and then you need costumes (a lot of shows ask you to bring your own costumes, quite often you need 3–4 outfits).I chose to do law so I could pay for my acting and had no idea how expensive it was. A lot of actors work in bars or as waiters. You need a job and you need to be able to take time off at the drop of a hat, which most jobs do not like. Most of the successful people I know in acting have a university degree, work part-time to full-time in that and use that money to pay rent and pay for their acting.Sorry, but this is the harsh reality of acting.
