Would America Be Better Off If It Had Left The Jews To Rot In The Camps

Did the American soldiers of World War II kill German guards at the concentration camps when they got there?

Most SS personnel were arrogant, ignorant murderers who spent the war killing people who could not fight back. Women, children, the elderly, the sick or handicapped. The incident happened at Dachau concentration camp. The day before liberation the SS guards were killing as many prisoners as they could because they wanted no evidence or witnesses. When the Americans arrived they were shocked, sickened and horrified by what they had found. Some of the SS guards were still fighting and when they surrendered they were being a little arrogant and combative. Some just refused to surrender. After they had surrendered they were rounded up and were being prepared to be sent off to POW camps. However someone thought they were trying to escape and opened fire from a tower with a machine gun. And some other soldiers opened fire as well. About 15 guards were killed and more were wounded. The surgeon attached to the American battalion did very little to help the wounded because he was disgusted and felt they deserved to die. Some guards were killed by inmates at the camp. Who would grab them and beat them to death. They also killed the Kapos and others who worked for the SS. The G.I.'s often turned a blind eye to these events and allowed the inmates to dispense justice on their tormentors. One could say this was unprofessional and a war crime. Conduct unworthy of soldiers and so forth. But just think of what it must have been like to enter a Nazi death camp and see these survivors and the dead. After fighting your way across Europe and seeing some your friends die in combat it takes a toll. And seeing piles of dead innocent people who were killed to satisfy hubris of the master race would take its toll on anyone.

Does the McCain camps strategy of limited access to Palin make mcCain's dropping the debate look like avoidanc?

I believe they are both ill-prepared (MCCain & Palin)...of course, I do believe it is more a ploy to keep Palin from her debate...the whole thing about putting it on hold for the current economic fiasco in Washington and well this country is a farce...This country was at war with itself (the civil war) and the debate was held...Japan attacked the US (Pearl Harbor) and the debate was held...

If McCain can't focus on both issues at hand he should respectively forget the whole suspending of his campaign and officially concede to someone who can...

Addition: Okay, Buffytou I know most McCain supporters are not as ignorant as you but FYI you really do need to get a clue...

Hitler saved America!?!?!?

Sorry if my question does sound akward..I should have worded better..but I am not trying to offend anyone..I think a lot of people answering our missing what I'm trying to ask...ECONOMICALLY did Hitler play a role in catalysing the rate at which we and other countries across the world got out of the Depression....keep in mind that the unmeployment problem in the U.S was not solved until after we entered WWII. And that The New Deal did help but it was indeed getting relief at a slow pace. I am aware that he killed many Jews and that killing only one life to indirectly help America and other countries is one too many so please stop reminding me that but I'm saying Economically do ya'll think he had an indirect role in helping America recover?

What did Josef Mengele do to the Jews at Auschwitz?

This is a question that can't be answered in a few words here. I recommend Miklos Nyiszli's book "Auschwitz - A doctor's eyewitness account". Nyiszly was a pathologist who was forced to to post-mortems for Mengele.

To summarize it briefly, Mengele was guilty of the following:
- Selections of incoming new prisoners: Who was sent to the camp, who to the gas chamber.
- Twin studies. Twins were measured, blood was taken, sometimes one twin was infected with a fatal disease, then the second twin was killed too, to do the autopsies at the same time.
- He studied dwarfs or anyone who was deformed.
- He tried to learn surgical techniques, usually from prisoner doctors who were surgeons.
- There was a project about eye color, and he tried to change the color of people's eyes by injections.
- Noma: This is a tumorous decay of the face which only occurs when there is very poor hygiene and nutrition. Once you feed people and let them wash, there's no noma any more. There was noma in the gypsy's part of the camp. Mengele tried to cure the disease.

That's more or less what comes to my mind right away. Read Nyiszli's book if you're interested in the subject.

Did the German people get off easy for WWII?

I really appreciate all of your answers, but the fact is that the German people had the power to influence Nazi policy. Take the Rossenstrasse protests; hundreds of Germans protested the imprisonment of their Jewish husbands IN THE MIDDLE OF GERMANY and the Nazis had to bend to the public opinion. Same with crucifixes in the classroom; Hitler had to rescind that edict because it was vehemently opposed by the catholic-german population. And how much did they know? I'd be willing to bet that it was general knowledge about the extermination camps; SS guards on leave wrote home and got drunk on leave all the time. So, Germans had TREMENDOUS power to influence Nazi policy, it is disputable how much they knew, but it was probably more than we think. And yet they can just wash their hands of it?

Why, in World War II, did the Nazis not simply starve the Jews instead of holding them in encampments, feeding them, then using gas or bullets to kill them? Would starving them not only be cheaper but also require less guards?

Logistics, logistics, logistics. To summarise what others have said:Starvation takes time & space. The starving Jews must be confined & guarded, which takes resources. They won’t all die at once, & some may prolong their lives by eating corpses. In warm weather, bodies decompose. You either have to venture among the dead & dying to extract the corpses for disposal, or wait until the end & clear them all up in one go, with loads of either frozen or rotting corpses, & possibly a few survivors. It’s quicker & neater to kill all the useless ones by the most efficient means possible, & dispose of the corpses straight away. This enables the use of some of them to do the dirty work of corpse disposal, saving psychological strain on your own people (a major problem, the Nazis found). Gas chambers are good because they also reduce psychological strain on the murderers (mass shooting sent a lot of the killers mad). They also leave a relatively neat heap of bodies which can be incinerated next door in a purpose-built facility, leaving far fewer remains than pits full of corpses scattered around the country.Watching children starve to death also causes psychological stress, BTW.Meanwhile, the strong & healthy can be worked to death, producing useful goods before they die, as Brent McKee says. Geoffrey Widdison refers to “Conspiracy”, an excellent portrayal of how Heydrich ‘rationalised’ the process of mass murder.Murderous, but given the basic irrationality of the genocidal policy, logical. Fewer people needed, can use some of the Jews to assist, less stress on the murderers, much easier to clear up.

What is Adolf Hitler's true ethnicity?

What is Adolf Hitler's true ethnicity? A lot of people say that one of Hitler's parents was a pure Jew but a lot of people say he is pure German. If he was pure German, how come he did not have blonde hair like other Germans do? Well, What is his true ethnicity???thank you in advance.

Were the ovens in the Nazi concentration camps used exclusively for corpses, or was it commonly heard of for Jews in camps to be burned alive?

This is a difficult question to answer, your first statement is about burning the corpses of the dead Jews. It’s for sure, that the Nazi’s used the ovens for burning the bodies of the dead Jews, because it took too much time and too much men power to dig all the graves for the dead Jews. Your second statement is about using ovens for burning Jews alive, this’s the most difficult part to answer. The Nazi’s performed lost of cruel acts against the Jews in the concentration camps, some acts we know, like the tattoos on the arms of the Jews, or about inadmissible labor. We know about most of these things, because of the witnesses and the victims, but in most cases, it wasn’t written on paper or in documents, so the witnesses and victims are the only prove we have. This brings us to the point, we don’t know about burning Jews alive in ovens, because, there were victims, but of course, if the Germans would have burned Jews alive in the ovens of the concentration camps, nobody has survived, so know prove. But there were also Jews who had to put the dead bodies of the Jews in the ovens, but they can’t (and couldn’t) tell us about their acts, because of the carefully way to work of the Germans, these Jews were killed, after they had put the dead bodies in the oven, no prove as well.So the answer on the question is difficult, we don’t know exactly whether the Germans killed Jews by burning them alive in ovens, in my opinion, we don't have any prove. But the Germans performed many cruel acts to Jews, so it is possible that it has happened.

What problems were created when the nation of Israel was formed?

One problem was that many Arabs were convinced by their leaders to flee the new state of Israel.

The Palestinians left their homes in 1947-48 for a variety of reasons. Thousands of wealthy Arabs left in anticipation of a war, thousands more responded to Arab leaders' calls to get out of the way of the advancing armies, a handful were expelled, but most simply fled to avoid being caught in the cross fire of a battle. Had the Arabs accepted the 1947 UN resolution, not a single Palestinian would have become a refugee and an independent Arab state would now exist beside Israel.

The beginning of the Arab exodus can be traced to the weeks immediately following the announcement of the UN partition resolution. The first to leave were roughly 30,000 wealthy Arabs who anticipated the upcoming war and fled to neighboring Arab countries to await its end. Less affluent Arabs from the mixed cities of Palestine moved to all-Arab towns to stay with relatives or friends.

All of those who left fully anticipated being able to return to their homes after an early Arab victory, as Palestinian nationalist Aref el-Aref explained in his history of the 1948 war:
"The Arabs thought they would win in less than the twinkling of an eye and that it would take no more than a day or two from the time the Arab armies crossed the border until all the colonies were conquered and the enemy would throw down his arms and cast himself on their mercy."

The problem was exacerbated when the Arab states refused to absorb these refugees, and kept them in camps for generations, never giving them citizenship and using them as a tool to try to destroy Israel.
