Would Ant Colonies Be Considered Communist Societies

Is the movie antz a communist like society?

This topic has been talked about here on Yahoo! Q & A and elsewhere several times, now. In the movie “Antz,” the producers tied many governmental issues into the story. The colony was led like a communist country, an aristocracy, and had a totalitarianism setup. Communism, for example, was a major part of the story. The government dictated to the entire colony and ruled every aspect of the ants' lives.

Is a socialist society best compared with an ant colony?

Every little ant works for a common cause, the queen. They work on behalf of a society and in doing so behave like drones. They do not think for themselves but rather they think of their society. Capitalism is the opposite where each person behaves as an individual and does things for themselves and anyone they choose to help. Or, am I wrong? Tell me why don't just say no.

Do socialists want society and our communities to be like ant colonies where everyone is the same and nothing/no one is special?

Nah, that is how big Companies want their hired workers to behave. Check out the comic strip “Dilbert” :-)

Entomology: Do ant and bee colonies depict an ideal Communist model?

Definitely not.To my knowledge, these insect colonies function with an extreme degree of specialization between queens, soldiers and workers. Karl Marx saw this as one of the cardinal sins of Capitalism: Estrangement (Entfremdung).According to him, under Communism, every individual must possess an equality of opportunity, to fully realize her potential. In practical terms, a Communist ant, rising up in the morning, would be free to decide herself if she wants to spend the day mating with her male comrades, tending to the current queen, dismembering the dead wasp lying around the corner to replenish the food reserves, or containing the fungi threat on the shadow side of the hill.Communist ants would also never fight ants from other anthills, like real ants do. They would form a worldwide cooperative community. That would seek to establish harmonious relationships with all ant species, as well as scientifically pursue non-predatory relations with other insects and vertebrates. The art below shows how I acquired my knowledge of ants, bees and other small creatures in the 1960s. (UPD: I’m thinking of the entomologist girl with the hand net for catching insects and her slack-jawed friend, not the guy harrassing the hedgehog.) I spent the rest of my formative years absorbing Communism, so that you know.

Do ant colonies and beehives prove that communism works?

Conservatives say that communism "sounds good in theory" but will never work. However, ant colonies and beehives prove the opposite. Ants and bees contribute their fair share and everyone is equal. If a creature as simple as an insect can adopt communism, why can't humans do the same?

Are ant colonies capitalistic or socialistic?

I like the concept of comparisson, but capitalism and socialism is econominc theories, and ant society and human society is vastly different from each other. But if you ignore these factors, ant colonies is not socialist, nor capitalist. They are close to fascism with an authorian planned economy. One person is at the top and everyone works for that one person and they can’t go against her will. In socialism, there wouldn’t be such a person, and in capitalism, the ants would get a salary and unemployment would be an issue.Oh god, I never thought I would ever describe an ant colony as a fascist society with an authorian planned economy. Is a honey bee colony a form of Marxism/Communism?

The honey bee colony is a form of survival. Anthropomorphising it doesn't make any sense. Bees don't get together and say "you know, we should really organize a hive in which the means of production are not held by a few of us bees, but rather available to all of us."Bees behave the way they do because it is the most efficient way to achieve the limited goals of their existence (pollenate flowers, make honey) with the tools available to them. Hives ensure their survival by protecting their means of reproduction, holding the honey and making thousands of bees available to defend themselves if necessary.Marxism is at its core more of an economic theory than anything else. It's a system that, in theory, provides maximum distributed economic benefits through the radical redistribution of wealth. Communism is Marxism/socialism gone awry. Bees do not engage in any economic decisions so they can be neither. They are hard wired to "do" and that's it.A bee hive is basically a very good example of teamwork. Everyone does their job and the colony survives. Such an idea is translatable to pretty much any human endeavor, which is why bees are always a popular metaphor for complex tasks requiring a lot of people.
