How does the 1950's compare to today?

Your Avatar looks female to me; so yes, people would have looked at you funny for always wearing jeans. Schools had dress codes. Girls HAD to wear dresses or skirts to school. Girls also wore dresses or skirts at work. Many of the things you take for granted about your life simply weren't done. Women were almost always called girls; You'd have to have been a grandmother to escape the title "girl."

Women teachers who become pregnant lost their jobs (married or not). Less than 10% of doctors and lawyers were women. Most married women didn't work outside of the home. A male nurse was nearly unheard of. The classified section of the newspaper listed jobs by gender.

A tape recorder was an expensive, high tech item. Most homes had 1 phone - you went to the phone to answer it, you didn't carry it around. Most homes had 1 TV, and it had 2 or 3 channels (NBC and CBS at first, later ABC) Most TV stations stopped broadcasting after 11:00 PM and didn't start up again until 6 or 7 AM.

Radios didn't become truly portable until after transistors reduced their size (after 1955 or so) Records were played on record players, the most portable of which probably weighted about 15 llbs.

On TV shows married people slept in twin beds, a double bed might suggest that they were having sex - so most TV shows just avoiding showing bedrooms altogether (I Love Lucy show broke/down this barrier - the stars were married to each other and she got pregnant, so the story line included her giving birth (off camera = the episode was mostly about the husband in the waiting room)

Even as late as 1969 the TV code didn't allow open mouth kissing on TV.

Microwaves didn't become common in houses until after 1970 or so - Moms cooked dinner and the whole family sat at the dinner table to eat it. If the phone rang during dinner, it was ignored. You didn't watch TV during dinner, because there was no TV in the kitchen or dinning room (where the table was) At least that's the way it was done in my house. I had to keep my elbows off the table and ask to be excused from the table when I had finished eating.

Is rock music still relevant?

Rock wont die, for at least next 50 to 100 years till we've people from our generation. I believe our generation is the last generation which had listened to true forms of rock. Today, most children who listen English music don't know what's true rock.EDM is the future. EDM is the future of all forms of music. Gradually rock is also becoming more electronic and is losing its core. Why people love Honey Singh and Baadshah, it is probably because of the beats they adds into their music. Same is the case with Avici, Hardwell, Coldplay, etc. They all use a lot of electronics in their music. Coldplay is no more a rock band, it is more an EDM group now. Even Linkin Park shifted towards electronics in their albums - A thousand suns and Living things.Present generation love speed, they cannot listen classics like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody or Led Zeppelin's Kashmir or even U2s With or without you. I've heard a lot many people say that they find Beatles as shit. They have a different taste.Music making is a lot easier nowadays and the sound is also better today. Even a 2 month knowledge of a DAW software can make you a good musician today.Bands and artists are making music as per public demand. Rock is now more electronic it will keep on becoming more electronic as time passes. Old drums are being replaced by octopads and electronics drumpads same is the case with other instruments. Even vocals can be produced electronically. Conclusion: Rock will never lose its fan base. Instead, it will gradually change its definition.

Is shyness really a lack of confidence?

Dude, you could stand to type shorter questions...
But seriously no, shyness is not an indicator of a lack of confidence...
Shyness is a result of people not feeling comfortable in a certain environment or situation.
When all is said and done comfort is what it comes down to.
Put anyone in a situation when they feel in control and shyness goes out the window.

What was Elvis's aura? Do you think (for his time) that he was more popular than Dean Martin, yes or no and why?

Dean Maqwrtin wanted to be in show business. He became nationally known as part of a comedy duo with Jerry Lewis with Jerry playing the part of the whacky one and Dean being the straight man. Dancing and singing went with the job. When they had a falling out Dean was thought to be the one who would disappear but he was a great crooner and had a string of hits and some of them are still used in advertisements and his version of Christmas standards are still very popular at Christmas. He was also a competent dramatic actor.Elvis was a completely different situation and became an acclaimed “Teen Idol” very early in his short life. Dean had dedicated fans but Elvis caught the crest of a generational tide that changed American culture dramatically while putting a ton of money into the pockets of anyone that caught their attention. In the 1950’s Elvis caught their attention and held it longer than any of his peers and his estate today is still raking it in by the millions. Dean and Elvis were both great in their way but it’s apples and oranges really.
