Would Feeding Orijen Dog Food Be Appropriate To Feed An Adult Chihuahua -

A good dog food for a senior Chihuahua?

That food is no where near healthy. I feed my dog Orijen dog food and Acana grain free. These are dry foods and some of the very best dry foods out there. If you want to only feed soft/canned foods some foods to look into are EVO, Wellness CORE, Wellness 95%, and. Before Grain. These are all great canned foods that I feed my Chihuahua with her dry. Do not feed your dog a food that has corn, soy, wheat, by products, animal digest, added sugar, unamed meat and fat sources, or artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives on the ingredient list. All of that is bad and nutritionally useless to your dog. Named meats should be the main ingredients, most likely followed by some fruits and veggies. Grain free is also best in my opinion.

My 7 month Chihuahua won't eat his puppy food, but will eat adult food?

I have a 7 month old chihuahua/pomeranian that's 4-5 pounds. His name is Kaito.
We've fed him a few different brands of dog food, and liked Blue the best. We give him the small breed puppy (in the pink bag) and my other dog, who's a pomeranian/papillon about 13 months and 15 pounds, the small breed adult. The only difference between the foods is that one's adult and one's puppy.

I've never had a problem feeding him, he always rushes over to his food and chows it down. i do give him an occasional table scrap (a piece of chicken or some sort of meat) but i've always done that, and he's healthy. I feed both of my dogs at the same time, in seperate bowls and seperate parts of the same room. Kaito always looks over at Miya's food, but he never eats hers unless he's done and i'm not watching him.
Sometimes my mom will let Kaito eat the rest of miya's food (we have trouble getting her to eat it all) instead of giving him his puppy chow. So recently he's been uninterested in his own food. The ONLY way I can get him to eat it is to let miya eat a little bit of it, then he'll get angry and go finish it. But god forbid i make my own food while he's eating..... .-.

Anyway, he'd rather eat the adult food over the puppy food. is there a difference in it that im not catching? they look the same to me, i'm guessing its the taste of the adult that he likes best. Is it bad to start feeding him the adult food at 7 months? it doesn't seem to affect him, but i'm not an extreme dog expert. The vet here isn't very reliable (long story, just trust me he's not a great vet) so i'd rather not bring him to the vet for this unless i absolutely have to.

so what should i do? keep trying, or feed him the adult food from now on?
thanks.

What is a good nutritional dog food for chihuahuas?

im getting a chihuahua that is almost a year old and the people that have her now feeds her iams puppy food and a friend of mine says iams is a low quality of food im wanting to know what are some good nutritional foods for a chihuahua.

How much/How often should I feed my Teacup Chihuahua?

It really depends on what food you are feeding, the high quality foods you can feed less, but the lower ones, you feed more, but since your dog is a runt, she might need more to keep up it's strength. I would feed her 2 times a day, once in the morning and once at night.

Some good quality foods are :

Canidae

Wellness
Wellness CORE

Solid Gold

Innova
Eagle pack Holistic
Chicken Soup for the dog Lovers Soul
Orijen
EVO
Merrick
Blue Buffalo
Avoderm

Never get low quality foods like :

Ol' Roy
Purina
Pedigree
IAMS
Eukanuba
Science Diet
BilJac

For they all have, Corn,Soy, By-Products, Artificial Colorings/Flavors.

This website should be able to help you on picking out a good quality food. Stick on the 4-5-6 star range.

How much do i feed my chihuahua yorkie mix?

Honestly, if she is the only dog you have, just offer the food until she seems full. A small dog like this can eat 3-4 times a day. Since she is so young, as long as she doesn't seem to be gorging herself, I would let her eat what she wants.

It all depends upon what food it is as well. Different foods have different reccomendations. What is on the bag is meant to be a guideline. Adjust from there as needed. She may need more, she may need less. Feel her body. She you should be able to feel ribs but not see them. She should have some muscle and fat around them, but they should be easily felt.

ETA: Jacob isn't totally out there. If she doesn't gorge herself like I said, she can eat as much as she seems to need. I mean I wouldn't feed her anything crazy like a cup every time you feed her. But offer maybe 1/4c 3 or 4 times a day. She won't neccesarily get sick. Some dogs DO tend to inhale food. If she is one of those, then skip what I said! :) I wouldn't worry too much about a puppy this little getting fat. The risks of hypoglycemia from not eating enough are higher than her getting fat. This will be something to watch in the future.

What food are you feeding? That can help us tell you how much to feed her.

ETA #2~ She should be eating anywhere between 1/3c and 1c per day according to that brand. I would measure out 1c every morning and spread out the 1c into a few meals per day. If she doesn't seem to eat it all or you just think it is too much, reduce it.

You might want to consider looking at some other foods for her as well. The Nutrience has a lot of corn in it which many dogs are allergic to. If you want a brand with grains, look at something with no corn, wheat or soy in it. Blue Buffalo is good and I am pretty positive they make a small breed puppy. If you want to skip grains completely, Orijen, Taste of the Wild, and Blue Buffalo's Wilderness brand are good choices.

For reference, my 17lb Cavlier eats 1/4c 2X a day at 2 years old. As a puppy she will usually need a bit more food to grow properly, but as an adult, I'm guessing she will only need around 1/2c a day depending upon how much she is excercised. Chihuahua's can get portly quickly! :)
Good luck with her.

How to fatten up a malnourished chihuahua?

We have just adopted a 3lb chihuahua from the chihuahua rescue, she is 4 years old, very picky and very, VERY, thin.. she is a bone rack. She is a great, very happy dog but just not too interested in eating. we gave her some ham, chicken and cheese and she ate a tiny bit, but she is not really interested in her dog food, will not even touch the raw diet or wet dog food. Is there anything that works great to fatten up a dog?

Is Pedigree dog food good or bad for your dog?

If a dog foodstays inside the dogdoes not cause the dog to eat grass all the timedoes not cause elevated blood valuesis affordableis climate-friendlydoes not contain obscure ingredients like fantasy fish names or “algae”does not contain superfoods that cause botanists to have laughing fitsTHEN IT IS GREAT DOG FOOD!If Pedigree works fine for your dog, so be it. (Dear fellow quora users, a dog food does not have to contain 80 percent Wagyu beef….)Hills and Royal Canine are best if your dog needs a veterinary diet. (My 16-year-old labrador bitch would already be dead without strict “low fat”- diet. Rest of that dog is quite healthy but we could use a new pancreas… The 10-year-old has lymphocytic IBD and has to be fed a vegetarian diet. He gets severe diarrhoea from any kind of meat but is fine with his Hills/RC diet.)Please do not feed large amounts of meat. Dogs aren´t wolves and do not need this. Dogs ARE meant to be fed with corn, that is what most of them got the last 2000 years. A lot of meat does them more harm than good. (With the exception of working Greenlandic sled dogs, but I guess you do not live in Greenland and your dog isn´t an extremely wolf-like breed living outdoors in arctic winter.)Also, we do not want the human species to die out within the next 200 years due to extreme global warming, so any dog food with lots of meat is out of question. (Sorry, no Japanese beef for Fifi.)I also want to inform you that the non-scientific term “algae” applies to about 10.000 aquatic, autotrophic, pro- or eukaryotic organisms that are as closely related as myself and Ziggy The Cute Spider. If you feed your dog “algae”, you do not know what you feed (Photoautotrophic bacteria? Rhodophycea? Plants?), where it comes from (Fukushima?) and how it was harvested. (But of course we can always declare that dolphin, turtle, sea lion or drowned bird as “OceanWolfWilderness Premium Dog Food with tuna and algae” and print a wolf on the can. After all, shit happens.)I am certain your dog can do without chia seeds, sunflower tubers, powdered Aloe vera-leaves, Ginkgo fruits and … such. I haven´t yet seen a European wolf hunt for chia seeds and doubt very much our ancestors wanted Captain Cook to find new superfoods for dogs in Tahiti. (“SouthernSeaWolf with wild boar and bread fruits, wheat-free”… How does that sound? I think I might start to produce FROZEN RAW PREMIUM DOG FOOD. Some fellow quora users will pay me a fortune…)

Why is my chihuahua so skinny?

an adult dog should not be fed three times a day or more ... he should be fed twice a day ... and what types of food are you feeding him ??? i have a small chihuahua cross who was underweight most of his life despite being free fed and when i switched him to a super premium food he put on almost a pound ... i have had to stop free feeding him and just give the recommended amount and he is now a healthy weight ... i would guess it might be the food you are choosing to feed ... if the food you choose is corn- or grain-based, dogs don't really digest that and so nutritionally the dog is not getting a lot ... and if your little guy is super active, you should try him on super premium food so he can get the nutrition he needs ... for a chihuahua it is pretty cheap to feed premium dog food ... i feed acana and it works out to about thirty-three cents a day ...
