Would Getting Another Cat Put Stress On My Current One

Cat vaccines/getting fixed/declawing?

It has nothing to do with the state law - it depends on what the policy is of the individual vet. Some vets do require that all vaccines are up to date first, some don't care about anything except a current rabies shot, and some will do everything at once.

As for doing vaccines all in one day instead of different days, it depends what you are asking. If you want to know if each different type of vaccine (FVRCP - also called "distemper, rabies, and FeLV if you choose to get that done as well), then yes, they can all be given at once. In fact, if you give them on different days you have to wait at least 2-3 weeks between vaccines. It's complicated to explain, but basically once the immune response to the vaccine gets going, you can't interrupt it (like with another vaccine) or you won't get good immunity to either vaccine. But if you give them all at the same time, they don't compete in the same way.

If you are asking if you can get everything done on one day and not have to go back for boosters, then no. If she hasn't been vaccinated at all, she will likely need to get a booster shot of the FVRCP and FeLV (but not rabies) vaccines three weeks after the first one. To get full immunity, she'll need the second set to build on the first immune response after the first response is complete.

And I urge you to reconsider declawing. It's pretty painful and usually quite unnecessary. Cats can be trained on scratching posts, you can use Soft Paws vinyl nail caps, you can keep their nails trimmed so they aren't sharp, and with good socialization you cat is not likely to be aggressive towards you or houseguests. Please dicuss options with your vet before deciding that declawing is necessary. Declawing should never be considered a "standard" surgery on a cat the same way spaying and neutering are.

Did I make a mistake by getting another cat?

ok, breath.

Make sure you don't put the cats together right away. Put the new kitty in a quiet room, and let the kitties get to know each other thru the door...you can switch them around if you feel guilty about locking one up - but make sure you keep food and water for each of them in their respective areas. When you think they will get along put them in a room where they can be watched (best by using two people) and use leashes so you don't get in the middle of a fight. Also have the cats be able to get away from each other (like a tall cat house). If they start to hiss, take them apart immediately and put one back in the room. Give positive reinforcement if they get along....

IF you are having kitty-remorse, it's ok. Better to know now. See what your adoption contract says about it. You may not be allowed to give it to another person (remember Ellen DeGeneres?). Read it completely, and there should be a place in it that tells you what to do if it doesn't work out. Don't listen to people calling you a bad owner because you decided against it...better now than to just abandon it outside, or whatever. You are NOT a hoarder - you only have two cats....if that qualified as a hoarder, I'm in trouble. I have four cats (and two still don't get along after 8 years, but they tolerate each other) - and my friend has a lot more (she's a feral-colony guardian). BREATH. You'll be ok.

How long should i wait to introduce male cat to newborn kittens?

sorry to keep adding, but my mom cat was checking out my hall closet before she had kittens so i moved her in my bedroom so i could keep her away from the other cats. ive let her out of the room a few times after the kittens and shes still going in the hall closet. when i just went in to check on her she had a kitten in her mouth trying to run out the door when i opened it. im thinking she wants to relocate to the closet.. but i wont beable to keep the males away from her. what should i do about this ? should i keep her locked up ? thanks for all your help! im just nervous i dont want anything to go wrong with these kittens.

Cat is peeing on stove! Cause?

I know this is disgusting but my female cat, Tilly, has peed on our stove. We turned it on and the smell was awful and probably very unhealthy for us. She has done this atleast 7 times and only when everyone is sleeping or out of the house. Tilly has never done this, she is 12 years old and healthy. She eats and uses her litter except for when she pees on the stove. We don't want to get rid of her (put her to sleep) but I can't have this. I have to clean all four burners almost everyday! I wonder if this could be stress because tilly lives with 4 other younger cats. But she has always been fine with them since we've had them for atleast 3 years. We also recently got a lovebird, but it doesn't annoy her. Does anyone have any idea why tilly would do this or how to stop her?
