Would Lasik Surgery Disqualify Me From Joining The Air Force

Would having LASIK or LASEK disqualify me from joining the Special Forces (U.S.)?

I don’t know what the standards are now— when I went in, it was based on the eye requirements for HALO and Scuba. Lasik wasn’t around. There was RK which isn’t done any more I think. But here’s the thing, although SF is probably more maintstream now. I got RK in one eye, corrected to 20/20 but the other was awful and I didn’t get it done. Wore a contact in that eye to the physical for my paperwork. The warrant officer giving me the eye exam knew I was wearing a contact. I shouldn’t have passed. But he had a Special Forces combat patch on his right shoulder— old time medic. He signed off and told me I’d fit right in.You aint cheating, you aint trying.

Would LASIK disqualify me from becoming a USAF Pilot?

I’m a former USAF aviator. LASIK and PRK are not automatically disqualifying for pilot training, however, as Nathan Fuller responded, you’ll have to provide your medical history and if the procedure you had done (or any other medical conditions) is one that disqualifies you, then you’re out of luck. The other thing that might be more problematic is that you’re already 24. The age cut off is 26 1/2, so you’ll have to get moving quickly, since they usually fill pilot slots up to a year in advance. If you don’t have a bachelor’s degree, you’re out of luck, you need one to be an officer and you need to be an officer to be a pilot. Nathan has good advice, talk to a recruiter, but don’t sign anything until you know what you want to do.

Are LASIK and PRK surgeries disqualifying?

Is you vision correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contacts right now???

1) If yes (which is most likely), then you don't even need the surgery to become a pilot. You will be able to meet the vision requirements to get to flight school. Sometimes, guys like you with glasses can be given PRK Surgery from the military if all goes well in flight school for you.

2) If not, then you will need the surgery to meet the requirements. Both surgeries are technically disqualifying. However, PRK is waiverable if the surgery was a success, and if you're a competitive candidate, you should be able to get your waiver. With LASIK, you cannot receive a waiver.

Best of Luck to you in the future!!!

Bad vision=disqualification from Air Force?

Ok, my sight is simply... Not the best and I'm forced to wear eye glasses. Does the Air Force look down on those with bad eyesight??? I want people who know from experience, not an article.

How long will I have to wait to Join the Army after Laser Eye Surgery?

Ok,
So I want to get laser eye surgery before I Join the Army. I was wondering if I would have to wait anytime before I can join. Like at MEPS, will they disqualify me if I get it done? Will they make me wait like a year and delay my entry for some time. Please resond ASAP. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Anna

Is LASIK surgery allowed for Indian fighter pilot?

LASIK is accepted by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force. However certain criteria and standards are laid down. The principal criteria are that the individual must be older than 20 years before undergoing LASIK, and that LASIK ought to have been done 6 months or 1 year before the medical examination. Axial Length of the eye has to be less than 25.5 mm (or 26 mm). Residual Corneal Thickness after the procedure cannot be less that 450 microns. Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery and meet the above criterion may be considered for the following posts in the IAF- Pilots flying transport aircraft and helicopters and all officers in the technical field, Aeronautical Engineers, basic Air Staff, Non-Technical staff, Ground Duties Officers, Security officers and Meteorology officers and officers in the medical field of the IAF.NDA does not allow LASIK or any other corrective eye surgery.Airforce needs you to have uncorrected 6/6 .

Can i join the navy if ive had corrected lasik surgery to prevent retinal tears??

the eye exam at meps will judge your visual acuity. could be an eye chart on the wall, could be a machine you look into when you get your driver's license.

what it will NOT be is an 'optometrist' or 'ophthalmologist" exam where they are actually looking IN to your eye. So in short: they will never know about it unless you tell them, so don’t mention it.

Floaters: a normal part of living. Not really anything you can do about floaters.

I’d be more concerned about a specialist saying you were at risk for a retinal tear or detachment. Now will they KNOW this at MEPS? Not if you don’t tell them. I never heard of LASIKS being used for that since it normally just involves reshaping the cornea and not ‘filling holes’. Did your specialist give you a underlying diagnosis? Make an appointment with an OPTHAMOLOGIST (not an ‘eye doctor’ at Wal Mart) to get that checked out. If you DO have a condition that puts you at risk, would you want to risk your SIGHT in the military? Ask the ophthalmologist if military service would out your vision at risk and go with that.

Short answer: you can probably join if you mention nothing. If you say something, it will raise a red flag

MEPS disqualification because of LASIK?

I think I just got disqualified from MEPS because I revealed that I had LASIK laser surgery on my eyes to correct my near-sightedness. It was done 10 years ago and during an oversea trip.
The MEPS doctor disqualified me because I don't have pre and post documents of the LASIK.
My recruiter told me he could not give me a waiver without the documents from the original surgeon's pre and post LASIK documents.
My eyes are 20-20. I just had a thorough eye exam from an optometrist, with good results.
If I am disqualified from MEPS, will I be able to serve the military during my life time? If I have the chance to do it over gain, I will not reveal my LASIK history, as there is no way it can effect anything. But now it is in my MEPS, is it all over?
Even if I go to a different recruiter, they will see my MEPS record in the database. I feel I should not have revealed about my LASIK, but it is too late.

Can you join the military having had cosmetic surgery?

I have a girlfriend who had breast implants and wants to join the military, it's not a preexisting condition, not medical, just something she wanted.
This also goes for other cosmetic procedures, liposuction, tummy tuck, bow-lift etc. If it's cosmetic, not a preexisting medical condition, you can have tattoos, why not plastic surgery?
Does anyone know if you should not disclose the information about plastic surgery to guarantee getting in (i.e. my friend doesn't tell them about her surgeries and hopes her boobs don't pop) or if you should bring it in the open and let your examining doctor know?
I know plenty of people who have serious mental and physical issues, go off their medications "hide" their conditions, lie to the recruiter and doctor and then pretend that they all of a sudden developed a psychological or physical disorder for which they are treated by the branch they joined, how does this work with cosmetic surgery, should I tell my friend to sweep it under the rug and as I said hope she doesn't have a pop, I mean in theory, she could have them done during a long enough leave, she's not a child needing permission from the government to have her breasts done or liposuction etc.
I have had laser hair removal, as well as laser tattoo and scar removal, what about that? What if I want a Brazilian Butt lift (I too am joining, a different branch, she's going Navy.) Do I have to tell them I had a butt lift prior to joining, I mean if I survive with no issues there are no preexisting conditions, right?
Thanks

If Lasik is done, am I allowed to join in any army special forces like NSG?

First of all entry to NSG is not directly made. Lasik is accepted in the forces provided that the operation is done at least 6 months prior to your SSB. Many a times entry is made from JCO and Havildar ranks also.
