JUNEAU, Alaska – A former member of Sarah Palin's inner circle has written a scathing tell-all, saying Palin was ready to quit as governor months before she actually resigned and was eager to leave office when more lucrative opportunities came around.

If Donald Trump wins the 2016 election, who will be his likely contender in the 2020 election (and likewise for Hillary Clinton)?

2020 will be a more open primary for the Democrats (not hard, really. the last time the Democrats went into the nomination process without a clear frontrunner was 2004—before that, 1992) and will likely consist of whoever is designed to go for Hillary’s legacy (Tim Kaine). Kaine will be formidable but formidable in the same way Ed Muskie was formidable as the VP of a losing candidate four years earlier. Several other senators and governors will give it a shot - there’s speculation about John Hickenlooper (Colorado) and Cory Booker, for instance. But they don’t have as good a chance. However the biggest contender to Kaine is, at this point, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) who was very close to the second highest voice in the Sanders platform this year. After four years of Trump or Clinton, the progressive movement will be itching a lot more than it does. Times will be worse in 2020 and Gabbard vs. Kaine is by no means easy to solve. Also, Elizabeth Warren has refused to run or VP for Hillary and Sanders. I think it’s exceptionally unlikely she runs in 2020.2020 on the Republican side will be harder. John Kasich is in a good spot, as is Ted Cruz (who I maintain is smart enough to win a primary without Trump conditions). But they will face opposition from the RNC who is in no mood next election cycle to have some upstart take the nomination away. They need to get behind someone—otherwise your plans for Romney 2012 will be upset by Ron Paul.I feel there’s a good chance of a more standard, Hispanic friendly guy coming into the fray. Like Jeb, but better. Marco Rubio would be great but this season just broke him. I see a 2020 Republican primary as being hard to decide, and hard to find a consensus pick for. Kasich and Cruz opposed the nominee this year - bad signalling. So did Bush. Rubio looks unbelievably weak-willed.. he’ll try, but he damn well won’t succeed. Perhaps a new face. If he gets elected in 2016, Eric Greitens (R-MO) will make a run for the Presidency, I’m sure of it. It could work, it might not. But the 2020 field will be weak.
