Can I leave my glue stick in the hot glue gun when I’ve finished using the gun, or will it harden up and the gun will get ruined?

Don’t laugh. I’ve actually had this happen. I used to do a lot of arts and crafts workshops with school age kids. Anything can happen. One of the kids decided that using a red crayon to stick glitter to her project would be prettier than using a clear glue stick. It actually worked pretty well. Crayon wax has a lower melting point than glue, so it passed through the gun fairly well. It did, however, mean that the next two sticks came out looking vaguely pink, with streaks of wax on them. Nobody had a problem with that.This reminded me of an afternoon many years ago, when my brother and I were both home from school because we were sick. maybe we had the measles or some other childhood disease. We got bored, as kids will do, and we spent the afternoon melting an entire box of crayons on the radiator in my bedroom. Drip, drip, drip, in every color in the box. It was beautiful, even though Mom yelled at us. And the colors lasted for months. That was pretty cool.

I agree, probably ok to carry in luggage, a glue gun. This item will raise eyebrows in security checkpoints, so expect extra search time. Unless it is very important to carry such an item, I would just buy new at the arrival location and avoid the Hassel.. Airline security is not a place for humor, or questionable items.... Be conservative and careful...Don't push things that even YOU question would pass security checkpoints..

Can a hot glue gun be used to stick a metal and a plastic?

What should be done when glue stick get shorter and can't be removed from hot glue gun?
The answer by Steve Marriott is perfectly to the point and suffices, but if u MUST MUST remove the balance left over last part of the glue stick then do the following :Just run the heater by pressing the glue dispensing switch and this will heat up and melt the left over stick. Then allow the glue to drip off from the gun by holding it facing downwards…. This will empty the stick holding barrel cavity…. Alternatively you can insert a pencil in the barrel and start the switch. By doing this you will soften the remnant stick and at this stage force push the pencil to push out the remnant stick…. Once done then retrace the pencil back and remove it….. This way you can empty the glue stick holding barrel.
