Would The Us Give Me A Student Loan

School won't give me rest of student loans?

I am trying to attend a learning center in the next month or so and it's a 9 month specialty course for a certain career. I am eager to start! I am a mother to a beautiful 4 month old and currently live with my boyfriend (who is my sons father) and even though he makes over the amount for me to receive ANY assistance we are barely getting by with one income. For the interest of my son and my family, we decided me going back to school and starting a career is the best choice for us. He will be home with the baby until I get out of school and then he will go to work and I will watch our son. We feel it's best for me to focus on being a great mother and doing the best I can in school.
Schooling cost is $15,500..I qualified for $9,000+ in student loans but also qualified for the full amount of the pell grant which is $5,500 and I am also receiving another grant through my state of $5,000. That would leave me with a balance of $5,000. The school is telling me that I can't receive anything other than what the balance of the schooling would be. I don't need the whole $4,000+ but I do have expenses that need to be paid for school. I need a new pair of glasses (mine are over 2 years old) and I also need money for gas and car maintenance, a pair of white shoes required for school, some scrubs for school, and also a little money in case something happens and I need to pay someone to watch my son.
When I talked to my local community college last year they told me that with my student loans I can pretty much use it for the cost of living and any other expenses as long as it's NOT for buying a car.
So can THIS school tell me I can't receive any of my federal loans even though it is for me to be able to go to school? If not, what action should or do I need to take to get hold of the money I am qualified for? I know there are irresponsible people out there who have used to system to get the money and then not go to school but I'm not asking for a lot..just something. I want to better myself for my son and my family and I feel discouraged that I am running into these problems because of financial issues. I want to go to school to be able to contribute to my family and if it's MY money I'm qualified for I should be entitled to it..right?

Should I join the military to pay back student loans?

no. one CLRP is NOT always an option and there are limits.. as low as $10K.

if that is the only reason you want to enlist, then do not enlist. one serves in the military SERVE their country, not pay off student loans.

of course you could try for an ROTC scholarship and not have any student loan debt at all, but you must serve as an officer at least 5 years afterward.

Can I be issued a U.S. Passport if I defaulted on a student loan?

If your loan is with the US Dept of Education, I hate to tell you this, but you cant really... default on it.
you can stop paying it, but that damages your credit and can get them to garnish you. They will keep chasing you forever until the loan is paid entirely. You should call them and try do defer on it instead, which is to halt payments until you can pay again.

As for the passport issue, I think as long as you are a US. Citizen and you have no felonies and you are not in the military, you should be good.
