Would There Be Many Black People In America If Not For Slavery Would You Reverse Slavery Happening

Would there be black people in America if slavery never occurred?

That's impossible to say. Much of America and it's wealth was built upon slave labor so the country wouldn't have thrived as much, and many immigrants may not have been as attracted to come so America would be very different than it is today. No enslavement would cause such a ripple effect that it would be impossible to know what this country would be like now. After slavery ended, black people were still 2nd class citizens under the law and started the Civil Rights Movement. Every group of people of a non-Black agenda has piggy backed from the movement, women, handicapped, gays, and other minorities. So who knows where anyone who's not a white Christian male would be if not for the sacrifices made by Blacks.

What would have happened if slavery in America never existed?

your guess is as good as mine

But think-
remove slaves from US from say US independence and think what would have happened from there

1) What would the south have done if they hadn't had the workers?

2) Would there have been a dispute between the north and south?

3) Would the same politicians have emerged e.g abraham lincoln - Many politicians seek office because they want to change the way their country works (to make it fairer perhaps), change the country you change the politicians

4) would there have been a civil war?(the war was not about slavery per se, it was about the federal government trying to impose federal law on, up to then, independent states, slavery was just the catalyst).

5) If so then would it have occured later? what if it had been say 50 years later?

6) If there had been a war what would have been the outcome if Abraham lincoln had not been president? Even if he had been, would it have been the same outcome? (Lincoln was not anti slavery. his emancipation proclamation was only made 1/2 way throught the war AND it was only for southern slaves. Slaves in the north would continue to be slaves.)

6) the civil war united the US into a single entity, before the war it had been more of a federation of states

7) With no civil war would it have continued as a federation?

8) As a united country it made great strides moving forward in unity. What would have happened if there had not been this unity?

Just imagine trying to guess what would have happened in the future if every major event could have had a different outcome.or happened at a different time

You see predicting what would have happened if you remove 1 factor is very difficult if not impossible

What for example would have happened if Churchill had not been made prime minister of the uk during WW2
You try working out where the UK and WORLD would be now if he had not - would we have won the battle of britain? would hitler have declared war on the US? would the US have entered the war? would hilter have been defeated? what would have happened with russia?. Would there have been a cold war or would there have been a hot war?, The possibilities just go on and on

The list of major events that could have turned out differently is endless just as with the US.

Have you heard of a country called Nigeria? It’s a big country in Africa. 380,000 black Americans in the United States are originally from Nigeria, and I am only referring to one country. There are say 12,500 people of Senegalese ancestry. You have about 50,000 Sudanese Americans. You have maybe 86,000 Somali Americans. I guess you have 93,000 Kenyan Americans. There are others. We’re easily talking about 600,000 to 1 million black people in the US who are not descendants of slaves who came on ships. Many have actual very recent African descent. President Obama on his father’s side is a prime example of that. So, no, they didn’t all arrive on slave ships. We have something called airplanes and immigration, and, by the way, some of the people with the highest degrees in the US and with doctorates and extremely high IQs are these recent immigrants from Africa. Yes, some of them are some the most successful people in Africa, but I think the fact that their family bonds are intact and healthy and they didn’t endure the same kind of oppression plays a major role. African Americans would generally be in much better shape if they didn’t experience slavery, which technically continued until 1940 in the South when Roosevelt got rid of some loopholes, and then had to deal with Jim Crowe.African immigrants are more educated than most — including people born in U.S. - Los Angeles TimesWhile many are refugees, large numbers are beneficiaries of the "diversity visa program" aimed at boosting immigration from underrepresented nations. And on average, African immigrants are better educated that people born in the U.S. or the immigrant population as a whole."It's a population that's very diverse in its educational, economic and English proficiency profile," said Jeanne Batalova, a senior policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute think tank in Washington and coauthor of a report last year on sub-Saharan African immigrants in the U.S. "People came for a variety of reasons and at various times."

From the 1860 Census:“Free Colored”: 487,970 (I don’t have the breakdown by state, so it is hard to know how Hispanics/Asians are counted, but I suspect that the term “Colored” just referred to African-Americans:Total Slave: 3,953,760So the percent of Free blacks to Slaves was about 12.3%. Of those who were free, 225,849 lived in free states (about 46%) and the rest lived in slaves states. This was with a total US Population of 31,443,321 in 1860. So the total African-American percentage was about 14.1% (similar to today), total slave percent was about 12.6% and total free African-American was about 1.5% .Hope this helps.

If slavery never happened African-Americans would have never existed?

You mean slavery in north america because "slavery" has been going on forever and thus people like alexander the great would have never existed. Blues, R&B, Rock n Roll, Jazz, Soul, Country, Rap, or Hip-hop wouldn't have been created in america but I am pretty sure similar forms would have been created in africa. Plus it seems as if white people are benefiting more from the music industry than blacks are. I do applaud you for providing a more optimistic view on the opression that has been going on for centuries. You know, the lynchings, beatings, unjusticed murders, rape, ungranted education e.t.c. According to you we should all forget about all that and look at music that we created that other races are benefiting more from and beyonce and be happy.

Black people weren't the only ones enslaved...?

This is true. Most conquering armies that ran into a lot of resistance would then make slaves of the captured peoples. Most of the men were killed and the women and children were made slaves and sent to where ever. At one point in Greece, Athens had more slaves than citizens (about double).

Countries that had slaves was extensive. Roman Empire, Greek Empire, Persian Empire, The Huns, Gauls, Egyptians, Phonecians plus others. Even the north american natives had slaves from other tribes when they captured another tribes village. Many were marked in a usual fashion of cutting off a small finger or some other part of the body or scarred.

In North America (after the whites came) it was found out early that the white slaves (there were some), were harder to track down and could integrate into an urban population easier. The escaped slaves would travel to another state and then live in an urban area under a new name. These slaves also usually had a skill set that they could utilize to make money. It could take a few years to track one down so it became uneconomical to do so.

If the slave was black, this couldn't happen and so was a better situation. Initially white slaves cost more and so the black slaves were more popular.

Due to the demands of the cotton industry and some other farming groups, the black slave trade became huge.

So it was a large business. This was the first time though that a slave trade was so documented (ships, shipping companies, who did the trading for the slaves, where they went, how much sold for, cost of slaves sold and transported etc).
Prior to this there were not the extensive paperwork trail of a slave trade and also this was the first real slave business and on such a scale.

Interesting is the number of tribes in Africa that helped the slave traders to do their business.

Why cant so many black people accept that slavery is over?

We're all slaves. You, me, the black guy next door. All of us. Unless you work for the Fed directly, you're a slave to the American Government. Love it or hate it, it's the truth - look it up if you're not educated about it yet.

Gay people face lots of discrimination. That doesn't mean you have to be bitter towards black people. If anything, you should embrace them because they are mistreated, just as you are. And it's "allowed", not "aloud". Aloud is when you are out loud. Allowed is when you are given permission.

I don't think you're racist, but you are clumping all black people into one group and saying that they all complain. My boyfriend is black and I'm not, and he would probably agree with you and say, "Oh, everyone needs to stop whining and either go to college and learn or sit down somewhere." But yet, we both grew up ghetto and poor and discriminated against, and I just don't agree with that line of thinking. The government opressess anyone who came up poor. Black or white or green or whatever, you get trapped into a cycle if you're not born wealthy.

The black race shouldn't forget about slavery. You don't seem to be complaining about Jewish people whining about their "holocaust", and they ***** about that all the time.

The president is not an example of a black man or a good man. He's a jackass elected by the Fed, sensationalized by the media, and shoved down our throats as a celebrity. He knows nothing about a regular black person's life.

Mark here: Yes. Chattel slavery & slave trading as well as raiding to acquire slaves. Slavery was a pervasive economic institution throughout Africa, spanning across racial lines (there are many races in Africa, not the least many Black races) as well as national & tribal lines. It was almost the only common ground between tribes, the slave trade. For some nations, slave trade & raiding was the only economic activity.Chattel slavery was endemic in Africa from the earliest times, & not to put too fine a point on it, it hasn’t really stopped. In fact, among the East Coast Bantu Peoples at least, the distinction between slavery & any other economic or dependant relationship can be quite vague. Your children, your wives, your servants are your property, a negotiable asset just like your livestock. Reciprocal obligations (like Noblesse Oblige) does not exist, for the most part. That is a European institution. No, it is Humanistic delicacy, daintiness (not to be rebuked), born of European sensibilities, that properly cast slavery in an abhorrent light. European Humanism with a strong Christian foundation brought slavery into disrepute, & mobilised dedicated economic, military & legislative resources to put a stop to it.Certainly, the Transatlantic slave market & colonial slavery was destroyed, but it continues in other quarters unabated.White Christians may brag, with a catch in their breath, of their predecessors’ actions against slavery, however the rest of us should hang our heads in shame, that it continues unrebuked, unabated. While we’re on the subject, note that the United States of America is the ONLY nation throughout history in which free men went to war against slavery, & frankly, White men offered up their lives to free Black slaves, to the tune of one white soul for six slaves. Cherish their memory.

What percentage of white people in America would support reparations for slavery?

I am against reparations for slavery. I am not an American but I am from an African country where an estimated number of 10 million people were massacred and thousands maimed (hand and/or feet chopped) during colonial times. I think that you have heard or read about the colonial genocide in the Congo under King Leopold II. It is still painful when I think about it. Those responsible for those atrocities are all dead and buried. Their children, grand children, great grand children are all innocent before the law and before God. They should not pay any reparations of any sort. The same for slavery in America. The Whites of today are not responsible at all for the wrongs, crimes and sins of their distant ancestors. It will be totally unfair and unjust to demand and get reparations from innocent people. Many African Chiefs made profits by selling their own subjects to European slavers. Do you think that their descendants should also give you reparations for slavery? As for me, I do not think so.
