What’s the most shocking movie endings? ?
The movies that were a book first or were a remake do not have shocking endings. For example: The Departed was originally Infernal Affair, so Infernal Affair has the shocking ending... The Mist is a Stephen King short story, the short story has the shocking ending, Fight Club is a book, the book has the shocking ending and so on... Now the Sixth Sense had a surprise ending, no one will forget!!! I felt, Unbreakable had a similar ending that shocked. The Usual Suspects is great too. Resurrecting the Champ had a pretty good twist too.
When is the right time to put a plot twist in a movie?
They can be in either Act II (middle of the story) or Act III (final phase of the story.) Act I is too soon, since that’s the “set-up” phase of the story. As for the “right time,” it depends on what the intended effect of the plot twist is. And at least to some extent, it must be set up beforehand. In other words, a plot twist can not just come out of nowhere. It has to make sense. And there are many examples of BAD/ridiculous plot that either made no sense or were just not believable within the context of the story.If you want to experience and study two of the great plot twists of all time (and they’re back to back at the end), watch “Witness for the prosecution,” directed by the late great Billy Wilder, arguably the greatest filmmaker of all time.
