Would This Benefit My Pc

What is the benefit of having more than 8gb of RAM on a gaming PC?

If all you do on the PC is play games, the return on investment is low. But what if you do more than game? What if you are Linus's nightmare user?Linus presents an interesting use case: A user who is playing games, editing video and streaming games. He builds out a fairly intensive 'worst case' real wold demonstration (even lights off a virus scan in the middle of things.) In this case, he's talking about CPU usage, but the results for RAM play out in a similar way.Let's say you're a gamer, and you shut down most of your background processes to play your games. Do you notice a difference between 8GB and 16GB? No, you don't.But let's say you like to play games and do content creation. You don't want to shut down your content creating process while you play games, and you've got time to kill while something renders out so you fire up Borderlands for a little mindless blowing stuff up while the rest of your computer is slugging away in the background. That's where you notice the difference. Not many people play games that way. Sure, you may have a voice chat running, and you may be running some music in the background.... for some games, I have a game guide / wiki up on a side monitor, but you can generally do most of that with 8GB anyway. But, for years I've hated having to shut down my 3D render engine to jump online for a guild activity. There was absolutely no way to leave that process running and play games. Thankfully, my current engine supports pause and resume, but the one I left behind didn't and anyone still using it has limited options to stop in the middle of a project. Being able to fire off your game of choice while something chugs away in the background.... now that's a value add.

If I run my PC 24/7, what software can I run to benefit/help other people?

Thanks for the A2A :)What you could do, which requires a few more steps than the other ideas, is run a BitCoin mining operation."But that's just giving me money, not helping other people!?"Yes, but my next suggestion is for you to convert that money to cash and use that money exclusively for donating to charities and people in the street."But that doesn't make a difference in the world!?"Well, it might not make a difference in your world, or in the world of the CEOs of all the big non-profit organisations, but it will definitely make a difference in the world of the lucky human being that you gifted the money to.

Would my PC benefit from faster RAM?

Not enough that you would notice. How Does RAM Speed and Timing Affect My PC’s Performance?I’ll also add, if you haven’t switched from an HDD to an SSD, that should be the first priority. It will make a very noticeable difference.Beyond that, having enough RAM is important.Anything more is either a major upgrade (CPU or GPU) or a tweak.

What would be the benefit/purpose of cascading a router? Could it help me?

I've kind of read into this but I don't fully understand its purpose and don't really see if it would help my issue..

While I game on my PC I experience huge 3-7 second "lag spikes" fairly often and my latency gets pretty high as well which makes gaming near impossible. I have a linksys wrt54g2 router in my apartment. I have 3 wireless connections running off of it and 1 wired connection. When we had a bedroom as a gaming room we all used it wired with no problem what so ever. Now everyone on the wireless when they game experience the same problem as I do and the wired connection is always fine. Though it is better when no one is really home though the issue will still happen here and there.

I'm getting great signal strength, 15megabit download speeds on speedtest.net, and I do see occasional packet loss when I do a ping test.

I've also heard wireless works on half duplex and that means it can't send/receive at the same time? I've gamed off my laptop before wireless and never had this problem, it always just seems to be the wireless card I have with my desktop which I might add is a Linksys WUSB600N v 1.0.

So my question is, what is cascading? could this help the issue we are all having? Are there too many wireless connections running off a basic router? Could my issue be better resolved with a PCI wireless card for my desktop?

I have WIndows XP Pro, SP 3, 2gb DDR3, I3 processor. I've done firmware updates on the router and opened all ports needed to play the game in question. I've also changed the channel the router was broadcasting on with no luck in performance.

Why would you want a slave hard drive ? what is the benefit ?

If you have space in your computer (usually for the hds there's two spaces, but you can use the cd/dvd 60/80 pin cables to connect a hd also, though usually a bios will not be able to boot of off it, because it would be thought of as other thatn C drive, while not a cd drive, it's possible though), than hook it up and just use it.

There is no real benefit of a slave, though it isn't a disadvantage, it's just another drive that you can use for a system, storage etc. (dual boot systems would usually be the best solution, I suggest any linux, I've used fedora core 4 & 5, though they took up around 5 gigs on my disks when I had them, anyway any linux would be a good dual boot OS), as I've said I reiterate, there is no benefit or disadvantage, it's just another drive.

If you got a virus on your 80 would it go to your 12..... ok there are many types of viruses and they work in many different ways and spread many different ways, usually a virus would affect certain files within an OS or affect the OS itself (alter settings, make backdoors, etc.), in extremely rare cases it could attach itself to any executable (dll, exe, and many others) file and get spread over, where it would lodge itself inside system processes and run a backdoor, a server, or anything else out of your computer, there were several attacks during which there was a timed date when a virus would be executed and it would delete all removable drives, media, all my docs, anything it could without deleting this system, and render the system unusable by flashing the bios (or anything else on the motherboard) when you try to restart, and making your motherboard simply a piece of metal (silicon, etc.... don't start), and nothing else.

When you ask if your 80 gig was infected could your 12 gig infected, if you're running a system on the 12 gig it's possible though unlikely, otherwise if you just have movies, pictures, documents, (hardly any exec files), then it's extremely unlikely (probably like you winning one of the american lotteries three times in a row).

Can't really answer more on your question without more info, if you have space in your pc just hook the drive up (it's only two wires usually- 60/80 pin and a power, and a couple screws) and use it as back or whatever you want.

Hope this helped,

How does Sony benefit from not allowing cross-play?

They didn't base their development and market strategy around community gaming. What Sony has arrived to do with their PlayStation series of consoles is to provide the consumer with a great gaming experience catering mainly to those who seek story-driven adventures in their games. Their exclusives are a testament to this.Cross play hasn't really been a strong point for them and it hasn't really affected sales. Usually if someone gets a PlayStation console, it's because their friends also have one, which eliminates the need for cross-play altogether when you and your friends are all on PSN. With the adult gamer the question becomes more one of personal preference. If this is mainly about Fortnite, the answer is quite simple: Fortnite players on PS4 are able to play along with Fortnite players on PC and viceversa. (I had to look this up, I believe this was a recent development since this wasn't available before). What one cannot do is use their EpicGames account created through PSN on a platform other than PS4. Why? I couldn't tell you, but it really isn't hurting Sony in any way. They've still dominated the market with this generation of gaming consoles.Personally, I could care less about cross-play since I'll play on my PC when I feel like playing a multiplayer game. My PS4 has been relegated to the “exclusive only” titles since I got my PC up and running… and I don't play Fortnite, so cross-play really isn't an issue for me.The majority of my friends have PS4 consoles, a few also have an XBox One. We're all too cheap to pay out the 60 dollars a year for PSPlus, especially when most of us can play online on our PCs for free.In short, Sony doesn't concern itself much with cross-play because the consumers haven't really demanded it. If it gets to the point where sales start to plummet because of lack of cross-play (highly doubtful) then they may change their stance on it… but I wouldn't count on it.

Will my old PC (Athlon II X3 455 processor) benefit a good amount if I change my cheap Nvidia 210 GPU for an HD6850 (2GB) or 6870 (GB) ?

Investing in the HD6000 series is pointless today as those cards are based on the old Terascale architecture which was discontinued in late 2015. You will have no driver support so running newer games can be problematic if they require newer drivers.Just buy an Nvidia GTX 1050Ti, it is nearly 2X more powerful than the dated HD6850/6870 but also uses less than half the amount of power and runs cooler. You should also consider unlocking the 4th core on your processor for some extra performance.
