I work in financial services. Can I legally refuse service to Democrats?
As with other answers to this question, I can’t really find a legal problem. You might get away with it.But I have to say—assuming this is a real question and not a joke—you are bound to be less successful in your career.Perhaps even worse, from your point of view, you are giving those excluded people more reason than ever to dislike Republicans, even to the point of hating people like you. If instead, you happily accepted Democratic clients, made friends with them, and then made them as much money as possible, you’d have some chance of persuading them to your point of view.In particular, if you’re good enough at what you do, or lucky, you could say to your liberal-minded colleagues, “Look at all the money we made together. See? Republicans do make more money for you!”It’s the best argument you could possibly have to convince them, but now you want to throw all that away.Likewise, don’t you think that any place that refused service to Republicans would be guilty of such terrible business practices that they deserved to go out of business?I can think of only one hypothetical exception to all this. Hypothetically, if you had a restaurant or bar, and some rude person came in every night to loudly criticize and chew out your regulars for holding the “wrong” views, then no one could blame you for asking that person to be more polite and circumspect in voicing their opinions. And also respect the fact that some people come in to dine alone, not argue heatedly with strangers.
Is there such a thing as a pro-gun Democrat anymore?
No. There are Democrats who own guns, and there are Democrats who support your right to own a gun. There are Democrats who would like to see reasonable gun control regulations, and Democrats who understand that easy access to the most lethal firearms is a public safety issue, and would like to see gun ownership treated more responsibly. There are Democrats who believe all of the above.For example, I have owned a gun, and have considered buying guns in the past. I have friends and family who own guns. Some of them hunt, some of them just shoot. The difference is that none of them treat guns as holy relics, like so many “pro-gun” supporters seem to do.“Pro-gun” is an absurd concept. It is practically a defiant boast of contempt that its supporters fling at their political rivals, reducing complicated policy issues to ludicrous, simpleminded maxims — if you are “pro-gun” then you are “pro-Second Amendment”, so you are pro-liberty and are a real American versus anyone who doesn’t fit into that equation.“Pro-gun” in this definition has distorted the meaning of the Second Amendment to justify fascism and treason in the name of resisting “tyranny”. No one can tell us what that means, or how that would come about in the United States given the federal system and a government of checks and balances, but the concept seemed to get thrown around quite a lot when we had an African American President. What a coincidence.Surprisingly, the Founding Fathers would have no idea what any of this was about, as they intended the Second Amendment to provide for formal, legally-defined militia under the authority of the states. They assumed that you would own a gun if you were in the militia. They certainly didn’t intend that individuals would use their guns to resist the federal government. That would be treason. We know that’s what they thought, because they said so in the Constitution.So no, there are no “pro-gun” Democrats. That is a term that the far-right fringe can keep for itself.
Do you think Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will have a long political career?
It depends. If there are any establishment dems left, AOC will have a primary opponent in 2020. She is so pathetically ignorant that she gets a pass on all her ridiculous judgements.She is amusing right now. She is a novelty like a new toy that a child plays with for a short time. Then the child eventually “tires” of the toy and wants another new toy.But the voting public is so under-educated, and becoming more so, that her election and/or re-election is not a phenomenon. It is a tragedy!I personally think that every time she speaks, she clarifies her desire for Marxism. If she were more intelligent politically, she would mask her Marxism. Dems wrote the book on masking yourself. She obviously doesn't read that playbook and more than the constitution.She is such a gift to those of us who are conservative, pro-constitutionalist. Big govts never protect, they pass laws to control citizens. Step by step we watch our freedoms being systematically reduced. When the reduction is complete, AOC types will seize the private property that working people have earned.AOC’s public display of Marxist, Maoist, and Fascist attributes actually is a great uniter of all true patriots in America into a “resistance” on the par with Adams, Jefferson, and Madison.I hope she is around for a while! If she loses in 2020, MSNBC or CNN will hire her to keep her pushing Marxism. But then, she'd have to read a teleprompter! Go figure.
