Would Using Gabapentin Before And After Surgery Help A Little Or A Lot

Does coffee interact with gabapentin?

Yes, it can do. A lot of people have described feeling like they are drunk, with double vision etc after drinking caffeine while taking gabapentin. I took gabapentin for years (but I took it for nerve pain, not epilepsy) and caffeine had no effect on me, but then again, I drink green tea which has no where near as much caffeine as coffee. But then again, I also drank coke.

My advice would be to absolutely not drink any caffeine until you speak with your dr more. I had no effects from drinking caffeine while taking gabapentin, but then again lots and lots and lots of people have had reactions. Talk to your dr!

Is it bad if I ate a piece of chocolate before surgery? PLEASE ANSWER, SURGERY IN 7 HOURS?

I am having surgery today at 4:30 and the doctor requested that I not eat anything after midnight on Wednesday (9 hrs ago). I had been doing fine, except 10 minutes ago, I accidentally ate a piece of small chocolate, like the ones that come in Sees Candy boxes. It was a pretty small piece & it had chewy stuff in the middle.

Is this really bad? Could I die from this (due to asphyxia) ? PLEASE HELP

I spend a lot of time driving and always have lower back pain. Is there something I can buy for my truck seat that will actually help and isn’t just a gimmick?

The lumbar supports on the market are a mixed bag and most are very dependent on the shape of your existing seat and the shape of your back. That’s not to say they aren’t worth trying. If you rely on driving for work, your seat sucks and you can afford/justify the cost, a used seat with great support could be as little as a few hundred bucks plus potentially a few hundred more getting the rails to match up safely. Depending on the year and the chassis, there may be a more luxury oriented stock seat that bolts right in with adjustable lumbar and good support. If your back is very bad, a few thousand bucks gets you a truckers chair with excellent support and costs a lot less than surgery.Driving position is huge. You want to make sure your resting position is optimal for everything ABOVE your lumbar too. If you lean your shoulders forward, this compounds the load on your lower back even if the lumbar is in a proper position. Same with your head, if it’s cast forward it’s loading the lower cervical spine, t-spine and consequently the lumbar.Stretching to increase the space between vertebrae before and after driving is can help too. By unloading your discs and facet joints, the nerve roots have more space, bulging discs pull back in, and the risk of injury is lessened.A huge proportion of people are perpetually dehydrated and this pushes you closer to injury. Discs deflate and critical core muscles weaken. Finally, PT can help a ton. If you’ve already spent time with a physical therapist, most of the same exercises can be used at home.

Neurontin help anyone with pinched nerves?

Yeah I have been taking it for several years for nerve damage due to a spine injury. It's one of the few medications that hasn't changed for me. It help me with pain and minor speech problems some times. I use it as part of a pain management program along with several pain meds and a few others. Here is a link that will give you good info on it.

Tramadol & Neurontin for herniated disc...does this help for herniated disc?

hi-

the injections will likely be two different ones but might not be since the areas are next to one another... i could be wrong.. im not sure about all of that and often times it can vary by the doctor.

I can understand the neurosurgeon wanting to take you off darvocet. that stuff is first off crap... the FDA is being sued because of it as of recent times. Also pain killers do carry a risk of addiction but its not as severe as some one to claim it is. However they shouldnt be the first line of treatment for pain management.

Tramadol can be good as it's non narcotic pain killer which can or cannot work. It attatches to opiod receptors and can bring on pain relief but sometimes it doesn't work.

As for Neurontin, this can really help nerve pain that can come from herniated disc but it often takes time to work. Some people don't find it helpful for pain and others do.

I take neurontin and I didn't think it was helpful however when i went off of it, i learned it was indeed helping. I tried ultram (tramadol) however it caused problems with me as I was on and still on cymbalta and it just didnt work well together.

It's common to use antiseizure medications like neurontin, topomax, Lyrica for pain as they help turn down the nervous system and can decrease pain sensation.

If they dont work for you by the time you go back, you should tell him and see what can be done.

I think Ibuprofen is great for the inflammation howver wrecks the stomach...

i think this doctor is pronbbaly narcotic phobic as a lot of doctors are but at the same time, they should try as many non narcotic approaches first for pain relief. Howevee there is a line to stop.

I have chronic pain issues and than i got sciatic nerve issues. THey think I have herniated disc but insurance hasnt allowed me to consult with a neurosurgeon yet. Because of my chronic pain, neuropathy, rheumatoid arthritis and so on, im on narcotics but i tried for years without them and tried injections, physiotherapy and so much else first. Pain got worse over time so now im glad to be on narcotics. I go to a pain clinic and they are the ones that treat me for my pain issues. So if the epidurals dont work.. im sure they will and the treeatments dont work and this doctor is resistant to try different options, try looking into pain clinic options.
