Would You Demand Congress To Restore Gun Violence Prevention Research

If you had the authority to make changes to our current gun laws what changes would you implement?

The original question: “If you had the authority to make changes to our current gun laws what changes would you implement?”I would start by implementing harsh penalties for any state or municipality that has prohibited magazine capacities, types of firearms based upon cosmetic features, outright prohibiting firearms by name because of cosmetic features, or having any law that uses the terms “assault weapon”, “assault pistol”, “assault handgun”, “assault rifle”, “assault shotgun”, or “assault longarm” and the definitions associated to those terms. Think denying grants and/or imposition of tariffs and taxes.I would go on from that by ordering the BATFE to remove the “sporting purpose” clause which prohibits a variety of arms from being imported or order the AG to clearly define what “sporting purpose” is and submit that definition to the houses of congress for their input and opinion. Moving onward, the NFA and laws that modified it would be repealed at the most. At the least, I would have the NFA modified so that the civilian machine gun registry would be reopened, the tax reduced to $10, and the current registry to be changed to a notification of purchase with the taxes collected going directly to the BATFE instead of the IRS.I would implement a program for separating service members to be eligible to purchase their personal service weapon so long as their separation is not an Other Than Honorable, Bad Conduct, Dishonorable, or an Entry Level Separation. The type of personal service weapons permitted for purchase would mainly be the standard issue rifle, though exceptions would be made on a case by case basis depending on the character of service and if the weapon requested was what they were issued and used most frequently, rank would hold no water in any request proceedings. Surplus and obsolete arms would be distributed to the CMP, obsolescent arms would be withheld until a time to be determined by the respective branch secretaries that the arms are surplus and/or obsolete.I would also revise the law so that the possession of parts in conjunction with other parts would not be “constructive intent” and place the burden of proof upon the prosecution rather than the defendant.
