Would You Force Your Kids To Get Braces

Would you force your kids to get braces?

Generally an orthodontist will not put braces on if not needed. Even though teeth may be relatively Straight, you may need them for other reasons. My boys both have perfectly straight teeth, but one has an o er bite, they got jaws that are too small, they teeth grind, and have sleep apnea. These are all reasons for braces. Braces are not just to straighten teeth. As you get older, if your teeth are not the way they are supposed to be, it will cause problems. So yes, I would force my kids to get braces. However, I need not force my kids because they are not moronic and they realize they need braces.

Would you force your kids to get braces?

Wow!!! That sounds ridiculous to me. I have no business telling my parents what they should and should not do if I'm under a certain age. I would have given you the braces too. They are trying to do what''s best for YOUR teeth. Not theirs. Parents see many things that kids cannot see at the time.. I'm sure the doctor would not have recommend them if you didn't need them. You haven't spoken to your OWN parents who feed you, raised you and tried to send you to a decent school over something as petty as getting braces. Braces is not an enemy. Your parents were not in the wrong, no matter what you said you told them. You act as if they put you under the guillotine. My goodness!!! What a spoiled, selfish unappreciative brat you turned out to be. Get a grip and get over it already! You're grown now remember????? Just be grateful that they had the money to afford it and they cared. I guess all in all, you are angry with your parents for caring about you having NICE teeth. Do you hear how that sounds? Do you really? They won't be around forever and neither will you. So, you are missing out on the laughter and loving touching of your parent because of braces. Man, I am re4ally having a hard time getting over this one.

Why is it legal to force kids to get braces?

Why is it legal to force kids to brush their teeth or eat dinner?
Why is it legal to circumcise kids?
Why is it legal to pick your kids up and put them in the car when they are screaming they don't want to go?
Why is it legal to wipe your kids butt when they are 2 years old?

Why? Because kids are kids.

Braces for your kids?

I have a 12 year old daughter and a 10 year old son.

They have the cutest smiles that everyone compliments them on.

The only problem is, the dentist we just found (our children were adopted so they have medicaid) is heck bent on getting them into braces ASAP.

Considering I would not have to pay for braces, you would think that the dentist would appreciate the fact that I am hesitant to just slap braces on my children.

She isn't. She says that my kids will not appreciate me when they grow up and have to get braces themselves because of their smiles and all other sorts of tactics.

I don't like the way braces change a kid's smile. Their lips bug out and their teeth look like a horses when they're done.

To me, perfectly straight is too vain.

My son and daughter both have straight teeth, but they want my daughter to have braces because one tooth is pushed into the roof of her mouth and it's apparently not an extra tooth.

My question is...why not just pull it?

Braces to force a tooth down?

This is from my own experience. I had a baby tooth pulled along with 3 others, but that one wouldn't come down an it was about 3 years. I came down a litle bit, but My tissue wouldn't let it come down anymore so I went to orthodontist ( I had braces the whole time it was trying to come in and still do) and he lanced the gum that was covering the tooth and it didn't hurt at all. I didn't even feel them do it. Then they put a bracket on the tooth rite after they did it (in February) and the tooth is now almost completelydown. I didn't hurt at all. It is possible to just where them on a section of your teeth, I did for a litle while when I first got braces, but having full braces is more effective to pull your teeth. And plus in most cases braces jack up your bite so u have to get rubber bands that go top to bottom like I have now so you'llneed full ones then probably. Hope this helps!

Will I be able to get braces in the Air Force?

Rules and policies are constantly changing. During the 70's and 80's the AF would not provide you with braces. In the 90's if you where stationed overseas and not in a deployment team (envelope) you could request to have braces. My last 8 years of active duty I was stationed overseas (Italy and Alaska). I was on a deployment team while in Italy, when I arrive in Alaska I was asked what special teams I might like to be on, I told them anything but a deployment team, 16 years was enough. I was put in charge of a new program (non deployable) and went to work, I did not get braces although one of my bosses did.

It’s fine.At the dentist there is no pain. It’s never comfortable having someone doing something inside your mouth, but there is really no problem. From a few hours after fitting or tightening to two to three days following it can be painful. I found that mild over the counter painkillers (paracetamol) totally dealt with the ongoing discomfort. Rather than pain, my teeth were incredibly sensitive. If I bit anything, it was agony. So for two days I just survived on milkshakes, rice pudding, soup and so on. After that the sensitivity faded and I was able to eat normally. You have to watch what you eat. You basically can’t bite anything, but chewing is OK. You can eat most things, but you might need to cut them up into little pieces with a knife and fork - e.g. an apple can be eaten this way. If I want some nuts, I crush them into little pieces first. Some things are easy to eat. Most things, if you want it, there’s a way. It’s just more hassle. If I eat out with friends, there is nearly always something I can order. Fish or something is generally soft and easy to eat.Cleaning is another case of increased hassle. Rather than two minutes once or twice a day, you are looking at five minutes three times a day. I carry about a mini-kit with me which I can use at work or on the go. At home I have a better kit. I have a water pick which is excellent and makes life a lot easier. Your tongue and lips can no longer clean your teeth and remove annoying little bits of food, so you need a tool to do it. Brushing has to be done more deliberately and take longer. I use inter-dental brushes too; flossing is possible but very hard as you need to thread it between the braces. None of it is a problem - you just need to recognise you’ll to spend another twelve minutes a day looking after your teeth. You quickly adapt to the new routine.Speech is very slightly compromised. Again, you adapt to the braces and it improves. It’s not a big deal.In terms of reactions from other people, honestly no one cares. I don’t make a big deal out of it and neither does anyone else. Some people may not even notice. Most people notice but don’t mention it. Someone wearing braces isn’t a big deal. One or two say “Oh! You have braces?” and I just say “Yeah, I’ve never been happy with my teeth and finally got round to doing something about it.”The most distressing part of the experience is forking over all the cash! Why is it so expensive!?

Is bathing or brushing your teeth illegal? It might be illegal morally in case you or your child has severely compromised malocclusion that causes physical discomfort or social disharmony. No one can force you to go for braces.

Can parents legally force a child to get braces on their teeth?

It depends on the child's age and what state they live in. Some states give children the right to choose or refuse medical treatments at age 16 or 17. Doctors and dentists can overrule parents if the child objects and if the forgoing treatment does not create any risks. The best thing to do is talk with your parents. Let them know that your teeth can be straightened at any time in your life. Get them to agree to postponing braces If the dentist or orthodontist says there are no risks created by waiting a while.
