Would you let your 12-year-old child play GTA, an 18+ game?
The answer to this question will be wildly different depending on the person answering. I personally (don’t have a child… so take this as you will) would have to gauge my child’s maturity and how I believe they would process what they saw.I played a game on computer called Mafia (Link)! I was in 3rd grade when we first got this game and I had already played GTA III. Mafia is pretty much GTA set in the 1920′s. In this game there is all the insanity that comes with these games. I understood 100% that it was a video game. Who I was as a person did not change because I witnessed my character doing things. I understood by that point that things in T.V. shows, movies and even cartoons just weren’t real. It was like someone telling a story. I went all the way through high school without ever getting into a single fight. I served five years in the Marines and never once got into a fight or have been violent period. Playing a game at 10 or 11 didn’t make me try to recreate the killing and violence that I witnessed in the game. If anything I feel that it made me respect that every person is capable of these things.I don’t think that every child could separate the two. I for sure don’t believe that anyone’s child should be able to walk into Best Buy and buy GTA V. I think every child has to rely on the responsibility of their parents to gauge when they are ready for certain parts of reality.Also, to be totally honest. You can’t watch your kids every moment of every day. You can control what your kid does at home, but if they are interested in something they will find some way to do it at least once. If someone has a big ordeal with their kids about not playing GTA V that kid will almost certainly be dead set to play it now.I also think that A LOT of parents don’t realize that their children can probably understand the basic difference between pretend and reality. However, that is the right and responsibility of each parent.To each their own.
Should a Mature 14 year old play rated M games?
Definitely let him play, video game violence isn't that big of a deal, its never as graphic as movie violence. Plus he'd make a bigger issue of it and try harder to play it if you say no

I'm 17, and I can tell you for a fact that every single person I know who is within 5 years of me, older or younger, should be allowed to watch this show. That encompasses everyone from 12 to 23 years of age, but I think it's the 12-17 bracket that's really of concern.Anyway, the vast majority of 12 year olds have seen some kind of porn. Many are frequent watchers. By 13, the shock videos (BME Pain Olympics et al) are starting to make their rounds. By 14, many kids have seen several shock videos (I know all my friends had done thorough tours of BestGore.com by that age). Now, it is very possible that my friends and I were operating on a compressed timeframe, but I can assure you with a pretty high amount of confidence that a 16-year-old has plenty of experience with everything I've mentioned--assuming, of course, that you haven't been nazi-ing his online activity for the his entire life (Which is another, similarly stupid, but separate decisions.)That brings me to my main point: your relationship with your son. As others have said, you will not stop him from watching this show. That's a fact. So you can either continue to try and shut him down, or you can openly allow him to watch whatever he wants. Let's see what happens if you choose the former. First off, he won't do what you want. He's still gonna see the show. But furthermore--and probably more importantly--you'll run the risk of damaging your relationship with your son. Anyway, as I said, I, along with all my friends and millions of other kids, have been extensively exposed to this kind of content. Most of us haven't killed anybody yet, and those of that have didn't do so because of the movies and TV shows we watched. There are many, far better uses of your time than fighting this battle.

For someone of your status you should be able to play an M game. When ESRB rated games M for mature, it means that you need to be 17 years old or older to play it. if you wanted to you could probably go to a videogame store and pick up an M game for yourself. You're a smart kid if all that you said is true, and playing an M game should have no negative influence on your personality or your academic career.

I know because it's happened to me when I tried to buy a used copy of Grand Theft Auto. Having a clerk sell you a game that you are under age to play is illegal. That being said, if you have someone with you who is over 17, you can buy it with they're consent, however, you will probably need ID, unless the person is obviously over 17. The easiest solution to this is to just bring someone in with you, a friend, or a relative perhaps. It's the law, sadly. It's the same as trying to buy alcohol or cigarettes if you are under age.

I'm a 14 year old boy and I want gta 5 but do you believe that it is an appropriate game. I believe I am mature and can handle many of the aspects that are in the game but I am not positive i have no interest in the nudity that is in the video game because I feel that it is morally wrong and extremely low to do. Violence is another thing I have played many violent video games and none have ever influenced me in any way. Drugs and alchohol do not interest me either in gta 5 and never will because I know that it is a video game and In real life I can not go jumping off a cliff with a mootrcycle .Thank you.
