I guess it depends on where one comes from. In my country Ray is most likely to be pronounced Rai/Ry, which will result in Ryan. Whereas in the US or another English speaking country, Rayan will very likely be pronounced as Ray-an instead of Ryan.

Seeing as you're asking about the US, I think a lot of people will misunderstand it as Ray-an instead of Ryan, simply because Ray is pronounced first and then the 'an'. People will pronounce it as it is written. If you change the 'y' to an 'i' there is a bigger chance it will be pronounced like Ryan, because the 'ai' sound is different from the 'ay' sound in English.

I don't think it would work very well, sorry. It looks really strange and might be mispronounced as "RAY-an" which would be wrong.

Ryan is plenty close enough to Ray -- why not use it anyway and say that it honours your husband's side of the family? Ryan has all the same letters of Ray, plus an N, so it should work.

If not, there's Raymond. I don't like it nearly as much, but that should be ok if you don't want to use just-Ray or just-Ryan.

Anyway, I like Rayan the best and it should be spelled Rayaan in Arabic not Ryan

I never heard about Eric, Evan and Jordan being Arabic names, sames goes for Aris
