I'm competing against my best friend?
Cristina used to be my best friend. We were just like sisters: we used to spend a lot of time together, we talked for hours on the phone and we even had similar thoughts and tastes. Since Cristina and I arrived to High School, our friendship has changed a lot. I’ve always been a better student than Cristina but it never affected our relationship. However, now that we’re in High School and our marks are very important, I started to notice some strange behavior from Cristina. She gets sad and mad every time my results are better than hers or every time a teacher congratulates me. She started competing against me! And the worst part is that this competition has affected me so much, that I also compete with her in every way. If I think she’s wearing a prettier dress, I get upset. If she does anything better than me, I feel angry inside. And when our marks came out in the end of school and I noticed that my marks were WAAAY better than hers I felt incredibly good and I didn’t feel sorry for her when I saw her sadness. My question is: Am I still her friend? Because I don’t think friends should act like this, but I can’t help it! What's wrong with me?
