X Men . Where Do I Start Reading

Where to start reading X-23?

After reading Marvel's "Venom: Circle of Four" storyline and playing Marvel vs Capcom 3, I'm extremely interested in X-23. I want to read more about her, but I have absolutely no clue where to start. Are there any certain back issues or trade paperbacks I should read to get caught up?

I want to start reading the x-men series. Where should I start? What title?

Actually the best place to start with The X-men would be to pick up the Essential X-men collections. They are reprints, and in B&W, but they begin with Giant Size X-men #1 and collect the original series run from that point on - which are the best X-men tales to date!!!You can also pick up Essential collections for the Uncanny X-men series as it began in the 60's, with the team in all it's blue/yellow uniform glory but it's not where I would start. The X-men really came into their own (and became one of Marvel's main titles with Giant Size X-men #1 and the series which followed by Claremont/Byrne).I'd advise you to pick up those single issues to see it in color but they are far from affordable!!

Should I start reading comics(Marvel/DC)?

Yes I recommend that you do read the comics. I mean that's how I got into the genre. I'm not the biggest Marvel expert because the heroes seem to be fighting each other more than fighting super villains. When I first read Civil War I thought it was cool. Siege was okay...and AvX seems to get alot of hate so I'm waiting for that to blow over before I jump back in. So I suppose you could pick up Avengers vs X-men since that is the big crossover event.I've heard that Ultimate Spiderman is amazing but...that one doesn't have Peter Parker because he's dead. Comics have the stereotype of when a hero dies they come back to life.In Ultimate they stay dead. A good X-men story arc is Age of Apocalypse. You could probably find that in trade(collection of comics put together usually by story arc).

I'm more of a DC guy at the moment because their reboot made it easy for me to jump in. I love Batman and Aquaman. Batman that story has a talented writer and beutiful art work. Aquaman...they made Aquaman a badass. Other Comics from DC I've been enjoying are Green Lantern Corps and Green Lantern New Guardians. These might be a confusing if you don't know some tidbit info on the GLs. Demon Knights is a cool fantasy story. I also highly recommend Nightwing(the First Robin),Animal Man and Swamp Thing. The last two you'll enjoy if you're into horror stuff.

Now you won't hate the good comic book movies for reading them...you might dislike the Nolan Batman franchise after reading due to Bruce being more of a quitter but I think it's unlikely you will. If you liked Fantastic Four,Elecktra,Punisher or Spawn and then read their comics you'll probably dislike the movies because Jessica Alba didn't do Invisible Woman justice and Doom wasn't being his mastermind master of science and magic self,Elektra acted out of character and Stick was her teacher when he was Daredevil's, Punisher they gave him super strength when he's just the guy with a gun. But if you read comics you'll love Avengers,Iron Man,Captain America,Batman and Hulk so much more because they give us easter eggs for us. For example in the Avengers after credits they showed use on of the best super villains of all time Thanos; the man who killed half the universe. You wouldn't know who it was if you didn't read comics. Or Captain America in the Stark Expo the Human Torch was in a class case. Or how in Batman they made a Killer Croc reference in DKR.

I want to start reading the Young Avengers, where do I start?

I'm a bit of a comic book noob and would love to know a good starting place for this series. If anyone could provide a link where I could buy it too, that would be awesome. Thank you!

Which X-Men comic book should I start with if I never read one before?

God Loves Man Kills-Marvel Graphic Novel #5 - This book provides the perfect introduction tot he X-Men. It doesn’t get bogged down in any confusing continuity and shows the core of the X-Men, Magneto and how Mutants are regarded in the Marvel universe. I added the link to it on Goodreads below .If you’re going to continue I recommend the Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past. Dark Phoenix is one of the most important X-Men stories. It involves the Hellfire Club and and continually referenced ever since. Same goes for Days of Future Past. It shows a future where the X-Men are in camps and the Sentinels have taken over. The impact of both stories drive the X-Men for decades.X-Men God Loves Man KillsX-Men Dark PhoenixX-Men Days of Future Past

Are the Marvel Essentials worth reading?

I wanna get into Thor and maybe some other heroes (I'll take recommendations) and I am told that the Marvel Essentials are important to read but to me it's like a giant compilation of old comics that are in the order they were published not in order of the story (like chapters I guess?). My question is would something like Thor Essentials Vol. 1 worth the read? Are there good stories in any of the Marvel Essentials? And do I need to read them in order (Like do I need to read Vol 1 before Vol 2)? I'm kinda new to comics so if any of these questions could be answered I'd really appreciate it!

Which Xmen comic do I start from?

For the completest a great guide (which I wrote anonymously.... shhhh!) is found here.... Chris Claremont X-Men & New Mutants Reading Order. If you find that your getting obsessed with mutants (it has been known to happen) you will want to reference that web-page often.   Until then... your focus should be on Chris Claremont and a comic he wrote called Uncanny X-men.  He also wrote a comic called New Mutants, which is pretty good as well. You asked where to start... Here is your answer... Read X-men Season 1.  This recaps the early adventures of our mutant friends.  Amazon.com: X-Men: Season One (9780785156451): Dennis Hopeless, Jamie McKelvie: Books.Read The Essential X-men paperback collection.  Amazon.com: Essential X-Men Vol. 1 (9780785102564): Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, John Byrne: Books.  Collects Giant-Size X-Men #1, X-Men #94-119.  If you want, you can pay more online to get the color digital comics.  The essential collection is unfortunately in black and white.  This is the beginning of Claremont's masterpiece.   The early issues are a bit rough.  But, as things progress these mutants will feel like family.  Have fun!!
