How can I play my MAME games WITH a xbox 360 controller?
If your TAB button no longer allows you to bring up the User Interface screen, try this: Go into My Computer, look for your MAME directory, double click the MAME folder, then double click the Mame32 folder, then look for the cfg folder. In the cfg folder, delete the folder called default.cfg (you can drag it to your desktop if you feel more comfortable). Next start MAME, go to Options, select Default Game Options, select Controllers and make sure Enable Joystick Input has a check mark, also to the right check to see if Default Input Layout is set to STANDARD. Start a game that you know works, during the game press the Tab button and that should call up The Input Menu. Select Input General and scroll down to where it says UI Up, UI Down, UI Left, UI Right. Go to UI Up and press ENTER. Now, press UP on the left analog stick of your Xbox 360 controller; you should see the selection change. I tried using the d-pad but it didn't work, so go with the analog stick. Press up on your Xbox 360 controller with the analog stick and it should work. Next go to UI Down and press ENTER and then press down on the left analog stick. You might notice the arrow keys no longer work to move down in the menu, so you'll have to switch to using the analog stick to move up and down the menu. Do these changes for the left and right directions (just as you did for up and down). Then go to the very bottom of the menu to select to get out of this screen. Try the game and it should be fine. If you do mess something up (like I did, by accidentally pressing a mystery button while on the Input Menu which once again altered my TAB button so it wouldn't work properly) you might have to delete the default.cfg folder all over again and start from scratch. FYI I'm using an older MAME version Mame32 0.86. I hope this helps!
Are there any huge problems with the Xbox 360 controller's D-Pad when you get used to playing with it?
The original design did not use an actual D-Pad so technically yes it had huge problems especially in fighting or side scrolling games. (A true D-pad will have separate buttons for U D L R, the 360 used a variant of a joystick and pressing Combos i.e. L+D together was very difficult)The re-design that rotates was an actual D-pad but because of how the controller was designed it still had problems in the traditional sense. The top piece rotated so you could set it to your preference. Much improved though nowhere near the quality of the DualShock 3. if only the DS3 had the same quality joysticks of the 360. (It was mostly fixed in the DS4) even in the x1/ps4 generation Sony has the better D-Pad
Broken Xbox One controller d-pad?
My Xbox one controller (not customized or day one) is having issues. It was perfectly fine until one day the down d-pad button wasn't working correctly. It made a spring noise every time it was pushed, and I had to push extra hard for it to work. That went on for a few days until the spring noise stopped and the button stopped working completely. Could anyone tell me how to fix it or give me a link to a tutorial on how to fix it, thanks!

Depends on which controller you have if you have the wireless controller you will need to purchase the wireless receiver to synchronize the controller to your PC. It cost $20 in most if not every store. If you have Vista and your on line once you plug in the controller it will locate and install the drivers for you automatically. Xbox 360 wireless controllers are not Bluetooth nor infrared it is 2.4Ghz what channel frequency it uses is only known to Microsoft which is why you can only use they're specific wireless receiver to use wireless controllers on the PC.

What should I do if my Xbox One controller isn’t working? When I move the stick or d-pad, the “cursor” jumps 2 or 3 spaces, not just 1 like it’s supposed to. It also moves around without any buttons being pressed. I’ve never dropped it. What’s wrong?
I’m not sure what’s wrong, but you should take it in to your local game store and see what they tell you. If it is beyond repair, I would suggest getting a new controller. If you have the receipt, and the store allows refunds after a long period of time, definitely get a refund.
