Russians: What do you think of Ayn Rand?
Never heard about her. What I can conclude from wiki's entry Rand's concept of "ethical egoism" is actually rendering of Nikolai Chernyshevsky's (a Russian author of the 19th century) ideas about "rational egoism". http://thelectern.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04... What do ordinary Americans think about Russia and Russian?
Ordinary Americans just don't think about Russians too often. When they do, I would say they have a number of stereotypes, most of them outdated.Russians live in a post-communist 'Eastern European' grey hellhole where everything is for sale and violence rules the day.The Mafia(or oligarchs) absolutely hold sway in Russia.Bribery in government is rampant; the mafia and the government are basically one and the same.Women are beautiful and desperate to leave and hardworkingMen are hopeless alcoholics who dont work.The infrastructure is, at best, crumbling. The men are drunk all the time.Nothing makes sense, nothing is taken care of, and nobody cares.Skinhead nationalists abuse homosexuals and minorities with impunity by the government. I know a lot of people (including Americans) who go to Russia who assure me these stereotypes are not really relevant but the average American probably holds them somewhere in his/her mind. But for the most part, they don't think about Russians. The ordinary American doesn't spend much time thinking about other nationalities in general, which is why their stereotypes are so out-of-date and laughably off.We've seen a lot of pictures like these:It's hard for American to imagine the reality of the modern Russia, which as a VERY multi-ethnic, multi-cultural place must have a very complex society. Forgive us, but we are just kind of ignorant about the rest of the world.AS far as the Russian language goes, your ordinary mono-lingual American knows next to nothing about it. I, as an American, personally am a bit fascinated with Russia, it's history, it's complexity it's mystery(relative to the more played-out and over-exposed Western Europe.) I'm not a fan of Putin, but I think Russia is fascinating and I hope to spend time there someday. But, to be honest, I'm not your ordinary American.
What do Russians and Germans think of each other?
I think that perhaps some of the other answers are coming from either Germans or people who are to the extreme right of the political spectrum, or politically correct liberal Russians. I think plenty of Russians still just hate Germans, with a lot of zeal, and feel that they were too kind to them during WWII. Perhaps the younger generation of Russians doesn’t hate them as much, but the older generation still does. Only people who are out of their minds would think that it would have been better for them if Hitler had won the war, as he was actively invading Russia and tired but failed to genocide the Russians. I think a lot of Russians hated the Germans after the war, but a lot of Russians hate Germany now for being part of NATO, EU, and also Merkel and her policies. Also in many places Germans who work for German interests in Russia are viewed with suspicion, and are registered as some kind of agents of foreign state.Russians are very proud people and very ethnocentric so they don’t worship German accomplishments or anything like that. They definitely don’t envy how West Germany rebuilt their economy as they were being helped by Western nations to do that, and for other reasons as well. They are quite proud of the fact that they defeated the Germans in WWII and made Hitler lose the war. Most Russians think of Russia as an empire and long for the old days of being a superpower, having a space program, and things like that. Also Russia has a long proud history with great scientists, artists, musicians, mathematicians, etc, so even though they may admire other cultures and their achievements they tend to be more proud of their own. Most Russians are not liberal and so don’t envy or respect Germany’s new liberal style of government and politics. Basically they’ve more or less always been enemies but have partially admired and respected each other, throughout their histories. There’s always a range of opinions that you would get but according to pew research polls most Russians have a negative view of Germany, and are nostalgic of the Soviet Union.
Why does Russia hate America?
Like anything, its not EVERY Russian who's like this lol. But look at the USA's history with Russia-Cold War for example. It's been a struggle to see which country is the stronger superpower. We've been at a constant, sort of "underground" battle I guess, with Russia for years. It's like how the British hate the French and vice versa I suppose....just a history of disagreements that has carried its weight into modern times.
Why are russian people crazy?
Hm, considering that two of these bad experiences had to do with your sister, why don't you ask her? There are three possibilities: a) both cases are purely accidental and she just has bad luck. b) your sister is attracted to creeps c) your sister is a tease/whore (hopefully that's not the case, but I don't know her, so can't rule that out completely...) As for your teacher, he's probably just bad at assimilating into american culture, so that may contribute to the oddness/creepiness. And yes, Georgians are not and never have been Russians. So in conclusion, you effectively have met only 3 Russians out of 140 million. I think you can judge for yourself how foolish it is to make generalizations about a population having studied only a small sample.

listen here girl, i'm practically born in america and live in a big russian neighborhood and from the experience i had with russian guys online and real life, i can say most of them dream of hooking up with american girls. many guys i spoke russian with told me how sick they are of their own girls cuz so many of them are whores. i don't care if i get thumbs down for this cuz i speak the truth it's from MY OWN REAL EXPERIENCE of dealing with russian guys for many years and i know the truth hurts. in one guy's own words, NOT MINE, he called russian girls "soulless glamour dolls" who only care to meet guys with money or americans for legalization through marriage. another guy said a few russian girls he dealt with had venerial diseases that he caught and many of his buddies caught diseases from girls in russia. there was even this one recording of a skype conversation that was spread like a wildfire among russians of a very graphic conversation between a russian guy and girl who were total strangers. he got her number from a friend who "recommended" her. so up front he asked to hook up with her for a night of group sex with him and 3 of his buddies. she agreed literally 5 minutes into the conversation with this total stranger. all she asked was "bring 2 bottles of vodka for me and something to eat, preferably a whole chicken". case in point? russians think very highly of american women. so go get em tiger! :)
