You Never Forget How To Ride A Bike

How come you never forget how to ride a bike?

I remember learning something about this in psychology. It's stored in your brain as a learned coordination skill, a process. Once you learn, your brain is hardwired to never forget that skill. Whether it be ride a bike, skiing, skateboarding, etc. You may become less practiced but you won't ever forget how to do it because of the part of your brain it is stored in the cerebellum...i think :)

Im 14 and i forgot how to ride a bike?

how long has it been? I assume it will take about 100-200 years to figure out, because the same thing happened to me. But it depends how long it has been.

Why do you never forget how to ride a bike, or swim, even if not practicing or doing them a lot, but forget how to do other things, such a second language or car mechanics?

Muscle memory is forever. I don’t know why; I simply know that it is. Once you have learned to do something physical, you will not lose that skill unless you have a brain injury. One of the hardest acting jobs possible is acting like you don’t know how to ride a bicycle, once you do know.Mechanics do not lose the skills of knowing which way to turn a wrench, or how hard, although they may become out-of-date with the latest engine technology. My experience of second language loss is that it is much easier to refresh a language I once knew and didn’t use for 30 years, than it is to learn a new-to-me language from scratch.

Do you ever forget how to ride a bike?

Apparently certain motor skills can be hardwired into your brain, like riding a bike and using chop-sticks:[Scientists discover why we never forget how to ride a bicycle]That said, if you experience some brain damage or experience inner ear troubles, it could make it much more difficult to pick up again. This lady apparently had issues:[Oh the shame of learning to ride a bike at 65]I didn’t ride a bike for about 15 years and hopped right back on one this past summer. We took our kids on a 10 mile bike ride down a gradual hill. I had to put one of our kids on this:And ride with her leaning all over the place. It was much more exhausting than normal trying to balance it, but I did fine. Most people will probably be able to hop right back on again if they once knew how. I’m sure some people forget, albeit rarely.

Can you forget how to have sex, or is it like riding a bike?

................................... only if the bike doesn't have a seat.

Will you ever forget how to ride a horse?

You won't ever forget how to ride, but you will forget the details, the finer points and also, your muscle memory will be completely gone, so it will take time to redevelop your seat, balance, position, strength and muscle memory. Things like the different aids for different exercises will not be as clear as they once were, but it will all come back quickly when you start riding again, especially if you are under instruction, which I would reccommend.

Why can't people forget how to ride a bicycle?

Motor skills are stored in the subconscious mind. It's not the same as memorizing some class taught subject. The subconscious mind is an excellent recorder. If you can access it, it remembers details that you never would have thought of (consciously), for life, unless theres some brain trauma. A good example is learning to drive. In any activity, the motions are learned consciously until they are finally transferred, programmed into the subconscious. Once in the subconscious, we no longer think about what we are doing in that activity, it's somewhat automatic. This is why, if you're tired on a long drive on the highway, you can ‘zone out’ for miles, and have driven half an hour without even realizing where you were or where you were going. Most people find their motor skills degrade over time, a function of aging. The thing is, that too is a type of subconscious programming, a belief, and if we didn't have that belief then we could probably maintain the same level of proficiency at something our whole lives. Since we arent told that we will lose the ability to ride as we get older (a programmed subconscious belief), we never really do. But, there is the belief that as we age our reflexes slow. We are told that, and we believe in it, so at some point your mind is going to decay in its ability to ride. You could hop on the bike again at 90, not having ridden since 56, and find that while you can still do it, you are creaky in action, and you may not brake in time to avoid some impending accident like you would have at 8, or 56 even.

Is riding a horse like riding a bike?

I've taken a few breaks because I've had 4 children, and have always been able to pick it up again no problem. I've not been stopped for more than a year at a time, and I started riding when I was 4, so it's really been part of my life for a long long time. Maybe for someone who hasn't been riding for a while, it'd be easy to slip out of the habit if they take a break. But for me, learning to ride was part of my childhood and I rode almost every day from when I was 4 until I was pregnant with my first child (he was born when I was 27) so I don't think I would be able to fall out of the way of it if I tried!

Riding a bike and rollerblading. Once your learn you never forget. Is that really true???

It's not true for rollerblading at least not for me. I bought rollerblades last summer. Didn't do it in many years and I couldn't do it!!! I mean I use to go far too, for miles even in the dark I was that good but why is it that I can't do it now? They are good blades that have been sitting in my closet for a year. Should I try again?

And it's been even longer since I rode a bike but I really want to start up again. I'm 30 now last time I rode a bike I was 12. I never even rode a real adult's bike! I always had a children's bike. I use to ride all the time but I fell really bad after going down a hill really fast, and after that I stopped riding.

I need to do some kind of exorcise. I hate gyms and lifting weights and I don't run. I use to be active doing this stuff, how can I get back into doing it without really hurting myself? I am scared of falling and breaking something. Would I be able to ride any bike again if I got on one?
