What should I do to become writer-director?
WRITE, WRITE, WRITE, and WRITE some more. Then REWRITE, REWRITE, REWRITE, and REWRITE some more.I don’t mean to say to ignore directing, it’s just that you can be a director and not have to know a whole bunch outside of telling your story. You just make sure your crew is strong, trustworthy and wants to tell the story you came up with. Your DP and Producer can help you tremendously along the way - choose them wisely. When it comes to writing, there is no crew, there is you - you better be good. Many directors came into that first directing assignment knowing very little about directing - maybe even only brought one thing to the table - a great storyteller (Tarantino), great at working with actors (P. Marshall) - they learned the rest along the way.Terry Gilliam changed Tarantino’s life with this, “As a director...your job is to hire talented people who can do that. You hire a cinematographer who can get the lighting you want...you hire a production designer...your job is explaining your vision.”
What are the best tips for beginners who want to direct actors in movies?
Table workTable workTable workI can't stress enough how this stage which most of the time is either hastened or not used at all, is truly a holy grail for a good production whether it be film, theater or television. Most aspiring and professional directors alike, jump to shooting right away while they do not understand that by dedicating 2–3 weeks before shooting/rehearsing to the table work stage, will give them so much ROI when shooting time comes.Though the meaning have changed completely, the word conspire is a descendant of the Latin word ‘conspirare’ which means to breath together. [1]By having all the cast and director sit together at the table and “breath” together creates a unanimous wavelength between the cast themselves and the director which assures much less of a headache, bad direction and mistakes by either the director or the actors when shooting/rehearsing.In other words, the shooting process then becomes fun. And that's what every director wants, at least in my book, cause when it's fun then you get all the good stuff that you as a director could have never expected or imagined nor seen in the script. The aim of a good director is not always know exactly how the scene should be or acted. But rather give a leeway to be surprised by the actor. And by doing the table work stage you ensure a larger chance of probability of these surprises to occure while filming. The other side of it is when a director knows everything. Oh how I love these directors…Yes, a director has to have a solid and clear vision but when directing actors, that's a different story. Both should be open to explore but the “permission” to explore always comes from the director. Hence he must not know everything (at least if he wants to be a good director).Footnotes[1] Conspire
What should I do to become an assistant director in Bollywood?
There is no one specific way to becoming an assistant director in the industry. For an entry, you can start from any of the below mentioned ways -If you are a student in any media college - many internship opportunities will come your way from the college program itself in forms of competitions that will result in internships or through your course coordinators and professors who are very well connected to the industry. Otherwise if you have guest lecturers who work in the industry, it always helps to get in touch with them for internships and recommendations. Once you get an introduction then it's upto you to climb up the ladder with your performance. If you are not in college, you have to spend sometime finding various film, ad-film, documentary film production companies and contact the producers or HR managers through mails and calls. "Persistence" being the keyword here. The first entry is always the hardest to crack. But most of us have done it so there is no reason for you to get dejected with some rejections. You just need to be at it and crack one entry. Post that your dedication and networking will take you places if you are genuinely willing to work hard and interested in this field of work.If you have already done an internship and know the job of an Assistant Director, you just have to go at it full-force in being in consistent touch with the people you have worked and also seek out for them to giving you more contacts of producers & 1st or chief AD's who will recommend you for projects. You have to make the effort in making those calls and getting yourself as many meetings as you can get and keep following up no matter how vile it might seem at the beginning. Again Persistence is the only way for your dedication to be noted.
I'm 38 years old. How old is too old to start an acting career?
I'm well established with a job I enjoy greatly (administrative assisting) and my children are now young adults. Every since I can remember, I have always wanted to become an actress. I can honestly say that it is and has always been apart of my daily conscience, always. I can't, nor have I ever been able to watch a movie or a sitcom or even a commercial without imagining myself in it. It truly is a passion that won't leave me. As mentioned, with a well established job and with my children getting older - nothing (now) seems to be in the way of my going after my dream. Any ideas on what I should do or where I should start would be greatly appreciated.
How much do pornstars make starting out?
If an actress is willing to perform more extreme acts she will receive more offers of work.Older or less attractive actresses are more likely to perform such acts in order to get work Some girls are used in nine months or a year. An 18-year-old, sweet young thing, signs with an agency, makes five films in her first week. Five directors, five actors, five times five: she gets phone calls. A hundred movies in four months. She's not a fresh face any more. Her price slips and she stops getting phone calls. Then it's, 'Okay, will you do anal? Will you do gangbangs?' Then they're used up. They can't even get a phone call. The market forces of this industry use them up. Most male performers in straight porn are paid less than their female costars. Ron Jeremy has commented on the pay scale of women and men of the sex film industry: "The average guy gets $300 to $400 a scene, or $100 to $200 if he's new. A woman makes $100,000 to $250,000 at the end of the year. "Girls can easily make 100K-250K per year, plus stuff on the side like strip shows and appearances. The average guy makes $40,000 a year."
