How much money do singers (Taylor Swift) make per concert?
Very broad question though easy enough to broadly answer.First things first, I won’t take into account the agent, lawyer, or manager fees. That’ll be too hard to explain as agents, lawyers and managers all get different rates and fees depending on the job they did for securing the concert.For a one-off show or a concert where the artist doesn’t do surrounding shows in the vicinity, a singer will usually go for an Artist Guarantee of at least 60% of the Gross Revenues of the show. Rarely will they do % of the gate if it’s a one-off show in a market they are not familiar with or with a promoter they aren’t familiar with. So if the promoter or venue predicts to make $1M USD, the artist should be looking for at least a $600k guarantee paid before the show happens.For a touring show where one promoter is responsible for the entirety of the run, it’s a similar calculation though at a lower threshold with a % of the gate. So if a 10 city tour is predicted to make $1M USD, the artist will either target an artist guarantee of at least $600–700k USD (60–70k/show) upfront or a $500k USD (50k/show) with 10–15% of gross revenues. Some global promoters have the cash flow to do large upfronts and then there’s the more local promoters who negotiate venue by venue.And to answer the Taylor Swift question: Her latest gigs are doing mainly stadium shows now with 50–60k capacity venues. If we average her tickets for simplicity sake at $100/ticket, it means show revenue is $5–6M per show and she’s getting paid at the very minimum $3M to a more likely minimum of $4M per show.I wrote about this a bit more thoroughly on my company blog if there’s interest to read into this further.

Why is Taylor Swift so popular?Taylor Swift is popular largely because she makes conventional music. Making a conventional sound lowers the risk of alienating listeners. Like Ed Sheeran and others, when listening to her, you can routinely expect an agreeable sound that is designed for top-chart contention. You are yet to be lyrically, topically, or creatively challenged by Taylor Swift.What makes her different from other female singers in her age group, like Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, and Selena Gomez?I don’t think of Swift as radically different from the three but she is different in that she legitimately has a background as a songwriter.She’s not some mind-bending wordsmith but a hallmark of her records is her lyrical style. When listening to Swift, it’s evident that she draws from real life experiences. Therefore it’s easier for a listener to latch onto her music on a personal level.Contrast with Perry, Grande, and Gomez. Their lyrics seemed very corporate-created, formulaic, and mostly detached from any real-life inspiration. With them, its like lyrics are there just because it’s necessary to make a song.She appears to have more of following than them. Why?I kind of liken it to someone like Adele, Eminem, Drake, and even 21 Pilots. With each, a bulk of their audience relate to them on a personal level because their lyrics appear to draw from actual inspiration and real life experiences. Swift’s lyrics, for the most part, aren’t programmatic. They’re not just pumped out of the Music Industry Machine. They ostensibly come from a genuine place.And in comparison, her music is more friendly and catchy. Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande all make somewhat mature songs related to female sexuality. Songs about seduction, sensuality, and intimacy is more likely to divert listeners than very innocent, saccharine songs about romance and heartbreak.How can she sell so many albums in the U.S.?The reason is largely for what I said before. Making safe music increases the likelihood of mainstream appeal, and her lyrics have a degree of conviction, which add to the appeal.What do you think?
What is Taylor Swift like in real life?
I met Taylor at one of her 1989 Secret Sessions. I was invited to her home in Watch Hill, Rhode Island to her the entire 1989 album before it was released and to hang out with Taylor. In person, Taylor is extremely nice, funny, and sarcastic. We each had one-on-one time with her, as well as random mingling while she passed out cookies, and played us her album. When talking to her one-on-one she is extremely kind and listens very intently. She is great at small talk, and asking questions that make you feel comfortable. She is very open and caring towards us as fans - I mean she hugged me three times during our conversation. She clearly cultivates a good relationship with her employees who work for her via Taylor Nation. They all spoke highly of her, when Taylor was getting teary eyed over a girls story one of the Taylor Nation girls started crying. If you hated your boss you would not get emotional over their emotions. I have also interacted with Taylor on Tumblr and have followed her interactions with other fans. She is beyond kind and caring. I've seen her stand up to people who've bullied her fans, I've seen her send kind messages to my friend when she is hurting. While I understand her interactions with fans cannot always be considered "real life," the amount of time she dedicates to her fans, the fact that she invited us into her home, has visited fans homes, etc., are all extraordinary actions that suggest she must be kind and caring in "real life."EDITED —**There seems to be a lot of confusion in the comments below. I did NOT meet Taylor in 1989. I met her in 2014. The event was CALLED “1989 Secret Sessions,” because we heard her album which is entitled “1989.” Taylor was born in 1989 and her album named after the year of her birth was released in 2014 ****Also, I know this was a PR event, but instead of just doing a PR event where she met her fans at concerts, or more public venues, she chose a personal way to interact with us, so I do believe it speaks to her character.**
